NEW FACES AT THE OVL
Susan Belekewicz
The Osterville Village Library is pleased to announce that Susan Belekewicz
has joined our team as the Executive Director. Susan brings a wide variety
of nonprofit and business management experience to complement the
Library’s already deep team of trustees, staff and volunteers.
Susan has spent 30 years of her career in banking in Boston, where she
was, most recently, the Director of Nonprofit Services at State Street Bank.
She has extensive business management, human resource management,
sales, marketing and relationship management experience. Here, on Cape Cod, Susan has provided fundraising
consulting services to a variety of nonprofit organizations. Additionally, she has served on the Board of
Directors of Duffy Health Center where she was the Chair of their Major Gifts Committee.
Susan will be responsible for managing the Osterville Village Library business and operations including the
materials collection, event planning, patron and fundraising programs and volunteer groups. She will serve as
the main public contact and spokesperson for the organization, and will represent the Library in all professional
business capacities while continuing to develop the Library’s innovative community enrichment programming.
Of her new appointment, Susan says: “I am just delighted to be joining the Osterville Village Library team. The
Library has a rich tradition in the village: with our beautiful new facility, we are poised to serve the needs of the
community today and as these needs evolve in the future. It will be exciting to be part of the future success of
OVL.”
Susan welcomes patrons to stop in and say hello!
Dr. Talida Flonta
Osterville dentist Dr. Talida Flonta was recently appointed to the Library’s
Board of Trustees. Dr. Flonta received her D.D.S. degree from
New York University College of Dentistry, after being trained in her native
Romania. She is the owner of Osterville Family Dental where she has practiced for the past 4 years. Prior to coming to Cape Cod, she practiced dentistry in Romania, New York and Hyannis.
Dr. Flonta has been a Cape Cod summer resident and visitor since 2002. In
2005, she returned to the United States for good with her husband Dan, a
concert violinist who is on the faculty of the Cape Conservatory. The Flontas
and their sons Victor and David reside in Barnstable and are enthusiastic supporters and patrons of Osterville
Village Library. “Our wonderful library offers free events and activities, such as classes and cultural events, for
people of all ages,” said Dr. Flonta. “It’s a privilege to be able to serve this wonderful organization. We have
so much to offer the community. I’m excited to be a part of it.”

Force joins us for a book talk & signing on Saturday, November 8 at 1 PM!
Force, a Newport, Rhode Island native, will discuss her inspirations and process for
writing her wildly entertaining series and stand alone novels. She’ll take us through her

With more than 3 million books sold, Marie Force is the New York Times, USA
Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling, award-winning author of more than 30
contemporary romances. Her New York Times bestselling self-published McCarthys of
Gansett Island Series has sold more than 1 million e-books since Maid for Love was

WINTER BIRDS OF CAPE COD
Winter Birds of Cape Cod

Presented by Chris Walz
Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary of Barnstable
Suggested Donation: $5 per person
Cape Cod is renowned worldwide for the abundance of birds during our fall season, but many people don’t
realize the birding opportunities during the winter months.
Vast flocks of winter robins, several species of hawks and owls and the occasional appearance of unusual
vagrants make for plentiful birding opportunities on the Cape in the winter. Birds face many challenges in
staying warm and finding food during Cape Cod's winters.
Join us for a glimpse into the winter birds of Cape Cod, and the many amazing survival adaptations they
employ!

Book Spotlight
Think you were finished reading George Washington’s Secret Six?
Think again.
The original story tells the tale of six heroes of the American
Revolution. Authors Brian Kilmeade and Don Yaeger finally give
these “secret six” spies their proper due, telling the fascinating story
of how they passed information to George Washington that turned
the tide of the war. Using a network of citizen operatives that
included a longshoreman, bartender, newspaper editor, housewife,
tailor, and femme fatale, and employing a series of complex codes,
the so-called Culper Spy Ring used sophisticated tactics to subvert
the British. Based on previously unpublished research, George
Washington’s Secret Six is a gripping history of these amazing,
anonymous Patriots who risked their lives for our freedom.
The newly released paperback version of Secret Six includes a never
before seen chapter with more information on the possible identity of
“the lady” Agent 355! Keep an eye out for the paperback to hit the
shelves of the OVL this month!

On Display- Photographer Art Buffum
This month, the OVL is pleased to welcome photographic artist Art Buffum!
Greetings and thank you for taking the time to read this brief introduction of
myself! My name is Art Buffum and I have been a Cape resident long enough
to have raised a family of three, now grown, here in Barnstable County. My
love of art has been lifelong. As a teenager, I was enrolled in the art program
through 4 years in high school. I became interested in photography about that
time and served as a combat photographer with the Army in Vietnam.
Introduced to digital photography by my children, I became reacquainted with
the art form. It gives me great satisfaction to have others appreciate my work,
and sharing what I see and feel is one of my life’s greatest rewards.
All work is done by myself of museum quality, with acid-free matte and backing. All inks are pigmented with a lifespan of 100 years.
Each piece is priced with 20% going to benefit the Osterville Village Library.
Please contact me at [email protected] or call 508-737-3198 and leave
a message. I will deliver the work personally in the mid-Cape area.
Thank you! Sincerely, ArtB

We’re now accepting space reservations for our third annual Experience Osterville!
This unique, effective marketing opportunity is being offered once again by the Osterville
Village Library. Thanks to our advertisers we’ve raised more than $35,000 in net
proceeds for the Library since the launch of the guide two years ago. The guide continues
to fly off the shelves at the Library, and at all of our retail, restaurant, hospitality and business partners who provide the guide free of charge for their customers.
Experience Osterville (EO) is distributed via village retail, hospitality, real estate and other
service businesses and nonprofits, as well as the Wianno Club and regional hotels from
Falmouth to Chatham. It has even become a popular gift item for Osterville’s brides and
grooms to provide for their guests.
The 2015 guide will be even bigger and better! Experience Osterville is geared not just toward visitors, but toward Osterville’s
highly desirable 3,600 plus year-round and seasonal residents, as well as its Cape Cod neighboring communities, targeting an
audience exceeding 30,000 readers. The EO is also available online at www.experienceosterville.com. Participating business receive
a featured spot on the Osterville Village Library’s website (www.ostervillevillagelibrary.org), which includes a link to the company’s
website!
Please share this amazing advertising opportunity with your favorite local business! Publishing in May 2015, EO will serve as a year
round guide containing informative articles and information about Osterville events planned through early spring 2016.
