T h e OV L N e w s l e t t e r November 2014 NEW FACES AT THE OVL Susan Belekewicz The Osterville Village Library is pleased to announce that Susan Belekewicz has joined our team as the Executive Director. Susan brings a wide variety of nonprofit and business management experience to complement the Library’s already deep team of trustees, staff and volunteers. Susan has spent 30 years of her career in banking in Boston, where she was, most recently, the Director of Nonprofit Services at State Street Bank. She has extensive business management, human resource management, sales, marketing and relationship management experience. Here, on Cape Cod, Susan has provided fundraising consulting services to a variety of nonprofit organizations. Additionally, she has served on the Board of Directors of Duffy Health Center where she was the Chair of their Major Gifts Committee. Susan will be responsible for managing the Osterville Village Library business and operations including the materials collection, event planning, patron and fundraising programs and volunteer groups. She will serve as the main public contact and spokesperson for the organization, and will represent the Library in all professional business capacities while continuing to develop the Library’s innovative community enrichment programming. Of her new appointment, Susan says: “I am just delighted to be joining the Osterville Village Library team. The Library has a rich tradition in the village: with our beautiful new facility, we are poised to serve the needs of the community today and as these needs evolve in the future. It will be exciting to be part of the future success of OVL.” Susan welcomes patrons to stop in and say hello! Dr. Talida Flonta Osterville dentist Dr. Talida Flonta was recently appointed to the Library’s Board of Trustees. The original story tells the tale of six heroes of the American Revolution. Authors Brian Kilmeade and Don Yaeger finally give these “secret six” spies their proper due, telling the fascinating story of how they passed information to George Washington that turned the tide of the war. Using a network of citizen operatives that included a longshoreman, bartender, newspaper editor, housewife, tailor, and femme fatale, and employing a series of complex codes, the so-called Culper Spy Ring used sophisticated tactics to subvert the British. Based on previously unpublished research, George Washington’s Secret Six is a gripping history of these amazing, anonymous Patriots who risked their lives for our freedom. The newly released paperback version of Secret Six includes a never before seen chapter with more information on the possible identity of “the lady” Agent 355! Keep an eye out for the paperback to hit the shelves of the OVL this month! 3 Kids Concert Cape Cod Youth Services Librarians Roundtable Presents: Grammy Nominated Singer/Songwriter Alastair Moock Saturday November 8 1 PM Tilden Arts Center, Cape Cod Community College Tickets $2 at the OVL $3 at the door See our Children’s Librarian Gail Nemetz for more information about this program. Greetings and thank you for taking the time to read this brief introduction of myself! My name is Art Buffum and I have been a Cape resident long enough to have raised a family of three, now grown, here in Barnstable County. My love of art has been lifelong. As a teenager, I was enrolled in the art program through 4 years in high school. I became interested in photography about that time and served as a combat photographer with the Army in Vietnam. Introduced to digital photography by my children, I became reacquainted with the art form. It gives me great satisfaction to have others appreciate my work, and sharing what I see and feel is one of my life’s greatest rewards. All work is done by myself of museum quality, with acid-free matte and backing. All inks are pigmented with a lifespan of 100 years. Each piece is priced with 20% going to benefit the Osterville Village Library. Please contact me at [email protected] or call 508-737-3198 and leave a message. I will deliver the work personally in the mid-Cape area. Thank you!
