OCKY CLARK’S STRIDES FOR STUDENTS SEND-OFF CELEBRATION

(WINTER SPRINGS, Fla.) Winter Springs High School (WSHS) will hold an official
send-off celebration for Ocky Clark’s Strides for Students on Friday, November
21st, 2014 at 7:30 a.m. at the WSHS Football Stadium. School officials will
gather the entire student body, along with local dignitaries (elected officials,
Seminole County Public School executives, board members, etc.) to send off Ocky
on his fundraising journey.
WSHS Dean of Students Octavius “Ocky” Clark will walk from WSHS to Florida
State University’s (FSU) Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. The walk
entitled Ocky Clark’s Strides for Students is a two-fold walk that will allow Ocky to
retrace the footsteps of his late grandfather, who walked from the Florida panhandle
to the Sanford area in the 1900’s in search of work, while also attempting to raise
funds for WSHS.
Ocky will walk from WSHS to Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla., where
he will end his walk on the FSU football field during the annual FSU vs UF
(University of Florida) rivalry football game. Ocky’s walk will span more than 250
miles and require an estimated 494,000 strides, in hopes of raising $1 for each stride
or $494,000 total. The funds raised from this journey will go toward the construction
of a new track and field house, including a community room, at WSHS.
Octavius “Ocky” Clark born November 14, 1960 in Sanford, Florida, is a military
veteran who has coached track and cross country at WSHS since its opening in the
late 1990’s, and now serves as Dean of Students at the school. Ocky who also
attended FSU, is a two-time All American track Star setting records at the university.
