For those of you who have not been to one of our services we hope this
booklet helps you feel more comfortable. We know new experiences can be
a bit awkward so please follow along with us in this booklet or you can
simply copy your neighbour. There are also brief explanations of why we do
what we do on each page.
A Few Tips
1. Bold lettering directs the community to say something in unison. Feel
free to join in or just listen to the words being spoken.
2. Liturgy may be new for you. If so, think of it like joining in on someone
else’s family dinner. Their food, conversation, traditions, and quirks may
seem odd at first. But after joining them the second or third time you may
feel more comfortable with the way they do family dinner. We hope you will
feel more at ease as you continue to join us.
3. You can download a digital copy of this booklet
and follow along on your digital device.

THE CHURCH
Church is not
something that we
do every Sunday, it
is instead the people of
God. It is a living entity
made up of Christians
with Jesus at its head
(Eph 4:11-16). The
church building is
not the church – you
and I are the church.
We gather together
as the church on
Sunday mornings to
worship together, be
taught by the
scriptures, and to
encourage one
another in authentic
community.
CALL TO WORSHIP
The call to worship
invites us to focus our
attention on God and
prepare our hearts to
meet him.
MUSIC
Music as a form of
expressing ourselves is
not a new thing. The
Bible is loaded with
stories of people
singing, sometimes in
joy like the slaves being
freed from Egypt,
sometimes in sorrow
like King David grieving
in the Psalms. We join in
this historical tradition
of using music and song
to direct ourselves
towards God in praise
and to direct our own
hearts towards God’s
truth.
1. WELCOME &
ANNOUNCEMENTS
2 CALL TO WORSHIP
We meet in the presence of God, who knows our needs,
hears our cries, feels our pain, and heals our wounds.
To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honour and glory and power, for ever and ever!
Amen.
Revelation 5:13
3. OPENING SONG
Sing to the Lord
by Paul Oakley, 2003 | iTunes
Sing to the Lord for he is good, give thanks to him
Tell all the world of all he’s done
Come lift your voice to worship him, come shout aloud
Open up you gates, you ancient doors
Let his glory in
Hallelujah, King Forever, all the earth will bow
God most holy, you’re so worthy, we will praise you now
He is a god of favour, mercy and grace
He reaches out with arms held wide
Who is this king of glory? He’s Lord of all
Open up you gates, you ancient doors
Let his glory in
Let the heavens rejoice and the earth be glad
Let the seas resound with praise
Let as join as one, with creation’s song
Lifting up a song of praise!
4. CONFESSION &
ASSURANCE
We are the people of God, but Scripture reminds us that we
still sin. We need to confess our failures,
knowing that the Lord Jesus intercedes for us with the
Father, who freely forgives us, through his infinite goodness
and mercy.
So let us draw near to God with sincerity and confidence,
and pray together.
Merciful Father,
we praise you for adopting us as your children
and making us heirs of eternal life.
In your mercy you have washed us from our sins
and made us clean in your sight.
Yet we still fail to love you as we should
and serve you as we ought.
Forgive us our sins and renew us by your grace,
that we may continue to grow as members of Christ, in
whom alone is our salvation. Amen.
Our God fulfils his promises and is true to his word.
We have confessed our sins. God has forgiven us,
because Christ died for us. Amen.
5. WORSHIP SET
Your Great Name
by Krissy Nordhoff, 2008 | iTunes
Lost are saved, find their way,
At the sound of Your Great Name
All condemned, feel no shame,
At the sound of Your Great Name
Every fear, has no place,
At the sound of Your Great Name
The enemy, he has to leave,
At the sound of Your Great Name
Jesus, worthy is the Lamb that was slain for us
Son of God and man, you are high and lifted up;
That all the world will praise Your Great Name
CONFESSION &
ASSURANCE
God asks us to be
honest with him, even
sharing the areas of our
lives where we have
sinned. Confession is an
opportunity to share our
failures, shortcomings,
struggles, and sin.
Through confession we
ask for his mercy
through Jesus Christ.
We say this together to
illustrate we are all in
need of God’s mercy and
forgiveness.
Yet the point is not to
dwell in guilt or shame
but to open ourselves up
to the grace of God. The
prayer of confession and
assurance is an example
of our trust in Jesus,
that even at our worst he
loves us and is working
for our good.
WORSHIP
EXPLAINED
Worship is so much
more than just singing
songs about God. It is
our whole being - heart,
mind, and body
responding in adoration
and thanksgiving to
God’s infinite perfection
and beauty. When we
enter into this kind of
worship, we become
acutely aware of his
presence with us and we
experience true
communion with God. It
is this ”Spirit touching
spirit” that revives and
stirs our souls. Join into
the eternal song this
morning and worship the
Glorious God for whom
you were created. Let
Him stir your soul.
STANDING
We encourage people to
stand during the
worship songs, but
please feel free to sit if
you are unable to stand
for the entire worship
time.
FOOD FOR
THOUGHT
“To worship is to
quicken the conscience
by the holiness of God,
to feed the mind with
the truth of God, to
purge the imagination
by the beauty of God, to
open the heart to the
love of God, to devote
the will to the purpose
of God.”

All the weak, find their strength,
At the sound of Your Great Name
Hungry souls, receive grace,
At the sound of Your Great Name
The fatherless, they find their rest,
At the sound of Your Great Name
Sick are healed, and the dead are raised.
At the sound of Your Great Name
Redeemer, my Healer, Lord Almighty
My Savior, Defender, you are my King (2x)
Lord, I Need You
by Matt Maher, 2011 | iTunes
Lord, I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You're the One that guides my heart
Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where You are, Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me
Teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I'll fall on You
Jesus, You're my hope and stay
Stronger
By Ben Fielding & Reuben Morgan, 2007 | iTunes
There is love that came for us
Humbled to a sinner's cross
You broke my shame and sinfulness
You rose again victorious
Faithfulness none can deny
Through the storm and through the fire
There is truth that sets me free
Jesus Christ who lives in me
You are stronger, You are stronger
Sin is broken, You have saved me
It is written, Christ is risen
Jesus You are Lord of all
No beginning and no end
You're my hope and my defense
You came to seek and save the lost
You paid it all upon the cross
So let your name be lifted higher
Be lifted higher, be lifted higher
6. PRAYER FOR THE
CHILDREN
At this point in the service we invite the children to come
forward to be prayed over before they go out to Sunday
School. If you are a visitor, or if your kids are shy, feel free to
keep your kids with you instead of sending them forward.
Your kids can join the rest of the children as they leave after
the prayer is finished.
7. THE READING
Mark 10: 32-45
This is our story. The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
8. AFFIRMATION
OF FAITH
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
PRAYER FOR THE
CHILDREN
Jesus said, “Let the
children come to me; do
not hinder them, for to
such belongs the
kingdom of God. Truly, I
say to you, whoever
does not receive the
kingdom of God like a
child shall not enter it.”
And he took them in his
arms and blessed them,
laying his hands on
them.” (Mark 10:13-16).
We include children in
our service and have this
time to pray for them
because they matter to
God as much as adults.
SCRIPTURE
READINGS
We take time to quiet
our minds and listen to
the Scriptures
which we honour and
value as God’s word to
us. We accept this as a
gift and offer thanks to
God in response.
AFFIRMATION
OF FAITH
Admittedly this is one of
the more unusual things
we do. But it’s an
important part of the
service. Think of it
almost like a national
anthem. We are called to
“hold fast to the
confession of our faith”
(Hebrews 10:23). As we
say this affirmation
together we
acknowledge the
historical truths of the
gospel, the unifying and
non-negotiable aspects
of our shared faith which
has been passed down
throughout the ages.
THE DRAMA OF
SCRIPTURE
For this morning’s
Affirmation of Faith,.
our Scholar in
Residence, Craig
Bartholomew has taken
the apostle’s creed and
adapted it tell the story
of scripture from
creation to the
restoration of all things.
This is our story. The
story of everything.
Craig has written a book
.”The Drama of
Scripture” that further
surveys the grand
narrative of scripture
and how the biblical
story forms the
foundation of a
Christian worldview. It
is available in our
church library and in
Christian bookstores.
Who created the world very good,
and placed the first couple in Eden, a perfect home.
There they succumbed to temptation
and chose autonomy over obedience,
with consequences for the entire creation,
unleashing sin and destruction into God’s good creation.
God responded by choosing Abraham through whom he
vowed to recover his purposes for all nations.
From Abraham’s descendants God formed his people Israel,
and placed them in the land of Canaan,
to be a show case to the world of life under God’s reign.
Israel’s persistent disobedience led to the judgement of exile,
announced by the prophets,
who also proclaimed the coming Day,
when God through his Messiah would establish his kingdom.
I believe in Jesus the Messiah, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He lived a full and perfect life,
And in his public ministry he proclaimed and embodied the
kingdom of God.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and
was buried; he descended to the dead. The third day he rose
again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated
at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he poured out the Spirit on the day of Pentecost,
Inaugurating the age of mission,
In which the news and life of the kingdom
are to be carried to all nations
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead
and inaugurate the new heavens and the new earth.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy church throughout the world and throughout time,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
9. THE SERMON
Preacher: Bill DeJong
Sermon Series: The Gospel of Mark
(See Series Introduction on Back of Booklet).
Scripture: Mark 10:32-45
10. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
For the introverts among us, this may be a slightly awkward
time in our service, but if you let it, it may also be one of the
most profound moments. We typically gather in small groups
(2-5) and pray for one another. You do not need to feel
compelled to pray out loud, but we would encourage you to
engage God and at least pray in the quiet of your heart. Enter
into conversation together with the King of the Universe, for
"the prayer of the upright is His delight." Proverbs 15:8.
Prayer Ideas
Pray that the Lord would bless and protect our families.
Pray that we would glorify Jesus through our lives and jobs.
Pray for those who are sick.
Pray for those who are mourning the loss of a loved one.
Pray that God would mend broken relationships.
Pray that we would know and experience Jesus more in our lives.
Accept our prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord, who
taught us to pray…
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we
forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the
power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.
11. THE OFFERTORY
Hallelujah, What A Saviour
By Philip Bliss, 1875.
“Man of Sorrows!” what a name
For the Son of God, who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
SERMON
Some view the sermon
as a way to get
principles for “right”
living. Others see it as a
chance to take a nap. In
reality, as we open the
Scripture we
corporately encounter
Christ. Therefore, as you
listen, pray to be open
to the Spirit’s leading,
exhortation,
encouragement, and
healing.
You can listen to all of
our sermons online on
our website.
BILL DEJONG
Our preacher today, Bill
DeJong, is the pastor of
Cornerstone Christian
Reformed Church in
Hamilton.
OFFERTORY
During our offertory
song we will pass a
plate around the room
and members of our
congregation may give
a financial gift. If you
are a visitor, please do
not feel compelled to
give. At St. George`s, we
believe that our money
is really God`s and not
our own, and giving
back to him is an act of
worship. Secondly, this
act of worship also
helps our church pay
the day-to-day expenses
of our many ministries,
and outreaches.
HALLELUJAH
“It is said that the word
‘Hallelujah’ is the same
in all languages. It
seems as though God
had prepared it for the
great jubilee of heaven,
when all His children
shall have been gathered
home to sing ‘Hallelujah
to the Lamb!’"
Ira Sankey
DOXOLOGY
These words were
penned in 1674 by
Thomas Ken, and they
anchor us in the reality
that our only proper
response to God is
worship & praise.
THE LORD’S
SUPPER
As Jesus instructed, we
take the Lord’s Supper
“in remembrance” (Luke
22:19) of Jesus’ finished
work of salvation
through his life, death,
and resurrection. The
bread broken and the
wine poured out serve as
concrete, tangible
reminders of Jesus’ real,
physical life and
sacrificial death, which
occurred once-for-all in
the past. As Hebrews
says, “We have been
sanctified through the
offering of the body of
Jesus Christ once for all”
(Heb. 10:10). The work
of salvation is finished
(John 19:30).
Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood;
Sealed my pardon with His blood.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Guilty, vile, and helpless we;
Spotless Lamb of God was He;
“Full atonement!” can it be?
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Lifted up was He to die;
“It is finished!” was His cry;
Now in Heav’n exalted high.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
When He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring,
Then anew His song we’ll sing:
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
The Doxology
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
12. THE LORD’S SUPPER
Since Jesus has opened a new and living way into God's
presence for us, by the shedding of his own blood, let us
draw near to God with sincerity and faith, assured in our
consciences of his cleansing from sin. Let us hold
unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is
faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on
to love and good deeds.
Most merciful Lord, your love compels us to come in.
Our hands were unclean, our hearts were unprepared;
we were not fit even to eat the crumbs from under your
table. But you, Lord, are the God of our salvation,
and share your bread with sinners.
So cleanse and feed us with the precious body and blood of
your Son, that he may live in us and we in him; and that we,
with the whole company of Christ, may sit and eat in your
kingdom. Amen.
Communion assistants please come forward.
We thank you our heavenly Father that in your love and
mercy you gave your only Son Jesus Christ to die on the
cross to save us. On the night he was betrayed, Jesus took
the bread in his hands. He gave you thanks and broke it.
Then he gave it to his disciples, saying, 'Take and eat; this is
my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of
me.' In the same way after the meal, Jesus took the cup in
his hands. He gave you thanks.
Then he gave it to them, saying, 'Drink from this, all of you.
This is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out
for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as
often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.' Amen.
Every time we eat this bread and drink this cup,
we proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
13. COMMUNION HYMNS
How Deep the Father’s Love For Us
Words by Stuart Townend, 1995.
How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory
Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
THE BREAD &
THE WINE
If you are freaked out by
the thought of eating
the body and blood of
Jesus, you wouldn’t be
the first, but try
thinking of the bread
and wine as emblems or
symbols. We are not
actually eating Jesus
body and blood, we are
symbolically taking his
life into ours and
remembering his blood
poured out for us and
for the sins of the world.
MEMBERSHIP
If you are a baptised
Christian and share a
commitment to the
purpose and statement
of faith of our church,
we would encourage
you to apply to become
a church member.

SERVING
OPPORTUNITIES
We are always in need
of volunteers. As
Christians, we are called
to live a life of service
to our King, His church,
and the world around
us. Jesus himself
humbly served those
around Him, and we are
called to follow his
example.

SMALL GROUPS
God intends for us to
experience life together,
and that’s why at St.
George’s, we encourage
you to get into a small
group. A small group is
a gathering of three or
more people who meet
regularly in a home.
They hang out, study
the Bible, and pray
together. No matter
where you are in life, it
is important to have a
group of people you get
together with on a
regular basis to study
God’s Word and have
fun! If you are
interested in joining a
small group, please
contact our small group
coordinator – Joe
Biggar at

church office 905-6305251.
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
Near the Cross
By Fanny Crosby, 1869.
Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain
Free to all, a healing stream
Flows from Calvary’s mountain.
In the cross, in the cross, be my glory ever;
Till my ransomed soul shall find, rest beyond the river.
Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and mercy found me;
There the bright and morning star
Sheds its beams around me.
Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadows o’er me.
Near the cross I’ll watch and wait
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I reach the golden strand,
Just beyond the river.
10,000 Reasons
By Matt Redman, 2011 | iTunes
The sun comes up , It's a new day dawning
It's time to sing your song again
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul, worship His holy name
Sing like never before, O my soul
I worship your holy name
You're rich in love and you're slow to anger
Your name is great and your heart is kind
For all your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find
And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Soon my soul will sing your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forever more
14. CLOSING PRAYERS
Bountiful God, at this table you graciously feed us with the
bread of life and the cup of eternal salvation. May we who
have reached out our hands to receive this sacrament be
strengthened in your service; we who have sung your praises
tell of your glory and truth in our lives; we who have seen the
greatness of your love see you face to face in your kingdom
and come to worship you with all your saints forever.
Father, we offer ourselves to youas a living sacrifice
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Send us out in the power of
your Spirit to live and work for your praise and glory.
Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God,
be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
15. CLOSING HYMN
Praise My Soul, the King of Heaven
By Henry Lyte, 1834.
Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;
To his feet thy tribute bring;
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
Evermore His praises sing;
Alleluia, alleluia! Praise the everlasting King.
Praise Him for His grace and favor
To our fathers in distress;
Praise Him still the same for ever,
Slow to chide, and swift to bless:
Alleluia, alleluia! Glorious in His faithfulness.
MISSION
PARTNER
ARDFC
St. George’s support
several mission
partners from around
the globe. One of these
partners is The Anglican

Fund Canada (ARDFC).
It is a Canadian global
aid agency that works in
close partnership with
the Anglican Network in
Canada (ANiC). ARDFC
undertakes carefully
selected and monitored
relief and development
projects with partner
dioceses in developing
nations, to relieve
poverty, provide food
and other necessities of
life, as well as provide
training to improve
skills in healthcare,
agriculture and
irrigation, and to
advance the Christian
faith.
PRAISE, MY SOUL,
THE KING OF
HEAVEN
Henry F. Lyte, the
author of Praise My
Soul, the King of
Heaven, was nothing
more than a small
village pastor, but he
enriched the lives of all
those in his community,
and the 800 children in
his Sunday school, and
the sailors to whom he
carried on a special
ministry. I suspect that
no one would have been
more surprised than
Henry Lyte to learn that
one of his hymns was
the favorite of King
George and another was
sung at Queen
Elizabeth's coronation.
But that is often how
God works, using people
whom we might think to
be ordinary to give us
extraordinary blessings.
PSST!
Don’t be afraid of the
exclamation marks. Say
these responses with
some gusto!
TALK WITH
YOUR KIDS
Parents, take the
opportunity on the way
home from the service
today to ask your
children what they
learned in Sunday
School. Tell them a
simple truth you learned
through the sermon.
Discipling our children is
one of the greatest
responsibilities and joys
God has given us.
“Behold, children are a
heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a
reward.”
Psalm 127:3
NEWCOMERS
Please stay for
refreshment and
fellowship following the
service. If you are a
visitor or newcomer to
St. George’s, and would
like to learn more about
our church, please fill
out a connection card
available from one of
the greeters at the door.
Father-like He tends and spares us;
Well our feeble frame He knows;
In His hand He gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes.
Alleluia, alleluia! Widely as His mercy flows.
Angels, help us to adore Him;
You behold Him face to face;
Sun and moon, bow down before Him,
All who dwell in time and space.
Alleluia, alleluia! Praise with us the God of grace.
6. THE DISMISSAL
Let us depart in peace to love and serve the Lord.
Thanks be to God. Amen. Hallelujah!
Our service is now finished. Please join us in the towne square
for coffee and refreshments. The Church is meant to be a
close-knit community. Take the time to get to know one
another over a cup of coffee.

Nazarene Pins
In Iraq, Christians are being branded with the Arabic letter N ‘Nun’ as a mark
of shame. The N stands for Nazarene, which is what they call Christians. We
as a church are choosing to wear pins with the letter nun as we stand in
solidarity with persecuted and martyred Christians, under the resurrected
Nazarene, Lord of Heaven and Earth, Jesus Christ. These pins help us to
remember to pray for our brothers and sisters in Iraq and to tell the story of
their faithfulness. We will have Nazarene pins available in the Towne Square
after the service. We will be asking for $4 just to cover the cost of printing.
Operation Christmas Child
Shoe boxes will be available in the towne square for Operation Christmas
Child. Operation Christmas Child provides an opportunity for people of all
ages to be involved in a simple, hands-on project that focuses on the true
meaning of Christmas - Jesus Christ - God's greatest gift.
For More information talk to Shelley Loveless after the service.

Financials
Currently as of October 31st 2014 we are running a $29,567 deficit at St.
George’s.
Although, $29,567 is a substantial deficit, it is a significantly smaller deficit
than what we had last year at this point, in a year where we ended up with a
small surplus. Our hope and prayer is that again we wouldn’t end the year with a
deficit. Would you please consider making a special gift to eliminate this
deficit?
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lam 3:22

Change For Children
Thanks you! Thank you!! to all who contributed to the ‘Change for Children’ in
support of the Martha Clinic for Children in Yei, South Sudan. Three amounts
of money (Sept.29, $132.35; Oct.27,$264.00 plus a cheque for $30 and
finally, Nov.9, $90.70) for the grand total of $517.05 have been forwarded to
ARDFC. Many people giving small amounts can mount up to a significant gift.
Come by our display to see the end results in pictures of ARDFC’s initiative on
our behalf for the people of South Sudan.
Please take a book mark as a ‘thank you’ and some of the extra literature
about this and other projects. Find out how ARDFC interacts with the local
people to help them , help themselves. What is very special is that all of this
is bathed in prayer and a sharing of the Word of God before, during and after.
When you pray and give, you are helping build the Kingdom of God.

this booklet (make sure you submit the booklet to the church office). Below is a list of

To put it crassly, The Gospel of Mark is the gospel for those with ADHD. It
succinctly and compellingly moves through the story of Jesus the King. The
birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus truly are the pivotal moments in
the story of everything. Through Jesus, God has offered amnesty to us
rebels. The invitation is for us to repent and follow the True King.
