Hello and welcome to all Langwarrin and Clifton Hill players and
supporters to, finally, the last game of the season.
What a great year our senior teams have had starting with the
Ladies team moving into the FFV and finishing 2nd in their division and

gaining promotion.
Well done
to Liam Bentley and all the girls… great
effort! Then we come to the under 21s. A brilliant year taking out their
league. They have played some great football this year and deserved the
title SE1 Reserve champions. Congrats to Phil, his helpers and all the players for a great
year. As for the seniors.. we had a great year with still a possibility to finish second. The
team took a few weeks to gel but once they did it was great to watch and to finish off the
season the way they have is a credit to all involved. The past couple of games continued the
great run with 6 points earned first seeing Cranny off with another good display then to beat
South Springvale away was fantastic. As for the under 21s, they won the league against
Cranny and then finally had the off day they were entitled to last week.
Today we have Ladies day to help raise funds for the Breast cancer appeal so I hope you all
get behind this great cause and throw some money their way. Well done to Rebecca for all
her hard work organizing this day I’m sure there will be a few chardys sunk.. so beware as
these ladies can get quite rowdy after a few….unlike us gents.
The half time dash will be funny to watch as last year I participated and if you look closely you
can still see the dint in the pitch where I fell. It’s great to see people getting involved in this at

It’s now time to come and celebrate the fantastic year with the players coaches and committee
so if you haven’t organised tickets for the presentation night it’s time to do so. $65 per head at
Patterson Lakes Golf Club will get you a lovely meal and we have a DJ on after the
presentations so come and support the boys and girls you’ve watched all year. See a
committee member for tickets.
We have 2 functions coming up for Bob Geddes: 1st is a Gala Day - Bobs Cup. There will be 8
teams fighting for the prize. Teams consist mainly of past players with Langy boys, Old
Karingal, Cowboys, Seaford, Pines, Baxter, Mt Eliza and Mornington so I urge you all to come
down and make this a day to remember. Cost $10 per head and a gold coin donation for kids,
with the bar open and BBQ food available there be raffles etc. all money will go to Bob,
Leanne and kids to help them through this terrible time. The 2nd function will be held at the
Seaford community hall, this will be run as a trivia night with raffles auctions and silent
auctions on some great stuff to bid on. This will be on 3rd October starting at 7pm cost $30
per head tables of 10 bring a plate of food for your table. Drinks will be sold at bar prices,
again all money to go to Bob and his family. If you are after tickets ring Doug on 0407863580.
Back to soccer. I would like to thank all the people who have helped this year from committee
members to
supporters and sponsors, without you
people this club wouldn’t run as good as it does, by far the
best in Victoria, so a big thankyou. Thanks to all the
coaches this year Gus and his team, Phil and Phil, Liam
and everybody involved I’m sure you would all agree the
football has been good to watch.
Don’t forget to get your kids registered for the summer
academy. This is run over 10 weeks professionally by
Gus and Bobby at $200 it’s well worth it so fill out a form
on the bar and sign them up.

JUNIOR UPDATE
Congratulations to our Under 12 Wallabies
Our under 12 Wallabies have continued their
outstanding season, by winning the league championship
title, an outstanding effort by Chris Jones and his team
remembering these guys are all under 11’s playing up a
year in the under 12 competition. Apart from that, they
joined the league in round 4 with zero points, and they
were able to go undefeated for the season. Their season continues tomorrow with the semi final of the state
championship, where they will be playing Monbulk Rangers SC. Good luck to all the boys for tomorrow’s game.
Meanwhile, the rest of our juniors all played in their last games for the season last weekend. We ended with
mixed results in what has been a long a testing season for some of our teams. But regardless of results, all our
players finished the season, and I know most are already looking forward to next season. I would like to
congratulate every player for the way they represented Langwarrin Soccer Club this year, it’s been an outstanding
season both on and off the field for our club, regardless of individual team results. Apart from our players, all
coaches, managers, parents and spectators should be proud of the way they have conducted themselves
throughout the year. On behalf of our club, I would like to thank all the coaches and managers for volunteering their
valuable time throughout the year, without you guys the kids wouldn’t be able to play or train.
For those who wish to further their football skills during the off season, we will once again be running our off
season junior soccer camp aimed at junior players aged between 8 – 16 years old. The program is aimed at both
boys and girls. This year we will be running a separate group for the girls. The program will be run by Senior Coach
Gus Macleod. Other coaches will be Bobby Mclauchlan, Steve Fisher and James Honey, with some other guest
coach appearances. The sessions will be run on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6pm – 7:30pm. The first
session is due to commence on September 23rd, and the last will be on November 27th. The cost for the 10 week
program is $200, this is fantastic value for 20 x 1.5 hour sessions. If you would like to register, please contact me on

Finally, i would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped me with the organising and
running of the junior teams this season, in particular Niall Shearer (sub junior coordinator), James Honey (girls
football coordinator) and Steve Fisher (junior development coach). It has been a great season, and I have enjoyed
being a part of this great club this season.

SENIOR COACH SECTION
Today is our last league game against Clifton Hill. They have some very good
players in their team and if you allow them to play, they are capable of matching any team in the
league. So our boys will have to be up for this game to get the three points, in order to keep the pressure
on Mornington. If Jamie Skelly’s Noble Park can take at least a point from Mornington Langwarrin can
finish runners up. To be in this position is due to a very good effort by the all players in the second half of
the season. Congratulations to Phil and his young under 21s Side in winning the championship against
Cranbourne 2 weeks ago… nothing more than they deserved! I am sure it also gave the parents of the boys, who have
been a great help to and supporters of Phil, a huge lift and plenty of enjoyment in winning the Championship.
I went up to watch the Senior girls play their final game against the League winners Warragul last Sunday. I had to leave
at halftime to go and have a kick with the Legends at Seaford. I was glad to hear that they got up to win
promotion. Credit is due to their coach, Liam Bentley, who has put a lot of hard hours into getting the girls playing the
way they are. Congratulations to the girls, who are a great bunch. They play hard, train hard and I am sure celebrate
hard! Tanya would have had a sore head the next day from celebrating, hopefully it will be the Senior Men next season.
Every year Langwarrin runs a Train On Programme at Lawton Park. It is a 10 week programme for juniors every Tuesday and Thursday night, no weekends to allow the parents time off and have a break, very reasonably priced at $10 per
session, if interested give me a call on 0402122077.

U21’s COACH SECTION
Welcome all supporters to Lawton Reserve on the final day of the season. We play host to Clifton Hill today
and we will be playing our hearts out to end the season with a win. The last time we met we just about got the
win with Mitch scoring in the dying minutes, so we know how tough our opponents are going to be. We also
want to bounce back from a disappointing performance away to South Springvale last weekend.
Having said that, I couldn't be prouder of the bunch of players we have here at Langy. Winning the league in
our previous home fixture on our own ground in front of the home supporters is what dreams are made
of. When we started pre-season training way back in December my aim was to try and shorten the gap between the reserves and
the step up to senior level.
I told each player; football is like life, if you work hard at it you will succeed. I set the boys a target of not only winning the league
but to score the most goals and concede the least. With the league already in the bag and a goal difference far superior to anyone
else and numerous players not only being called into the senior squad but securing a starting position, these targets have been
achieved. These achievements are a result of the hard work and dedication the lads have put in throughout the year.
It hasn't all been plain sailing, with the highs also comes the lows. Following our previous encounter with Clifton Hill we hit rock
bottom when we lost our brother Kolya to a tragic accident. He was a huge part of the team and a friend to everyone. He will
be sadly missed, but never forgotten. It was mixed emotions for all the players being able to dedicate the league title in his honour. As I look back on the season there are so many people I need to thank for all their help and support which I will do in person
or this program could turn into a novel.
Just a quick mention to Dave Collins who ran the line for us, even though I didn't agree with most of your decisions, I did greatly
appreciated the job you did. To the two men who helped me out in the dugout: John Heskins, the slowest physio in the league,
on match days I don’t know what I'd do without you.Thank you. Phil Redburn, we had the “good cop bad cop” routine perfected. Even I was scared half the time. You know more about the game than anyone I've ever met and I, along with every player,
have benefited greatly from it. A big thanks to Gus for not only giving me the opportunity to coach again but for the fact that you
and the staff were always there when I needed advice. A massive thanks to all the senior boys who dug in when asked to play
with the reserves. Also best of luck with today's match, an unbelievable winning streak, let's finish it on a high.
Before I go I want to thank each and every supporter who came down early to cheer the lads on week after week. Your support
was a massive role in the boys winning the league. We tried our best each week to make you proud and I think we did.

 Thanks to Jim Skelly for sponsoring, after another healthy
horse racing win, the entertainment during Saturday’s game
against South Springvale. Not only was their loud and exciting
car racing at Sandown but also helicopters arriving regularly, an
acrobatic aerial display and the prospect of TV ring-side with
Aussie Joe Bugner-Macleod willing to take on the Greek title
holder Jimmy Souvlaki.
 If all of the noise generated from the entertainment
mentioned above wasn’t enough you still had to contend
with Robert Mathieson and son Robbie Mathieson on the

only they could take a leaf out of Neil Collyer’s book where


What was the go with Peter Tuckett last weekend. He looked more like a
life guard out of an episode of Baywatch sitting on a little set of ladders
behind the goal. Mind you he looked more like a beached whale than a
life guard and was lucky nobody threw a bucket of water over him.

If Kevin Townson ever gives up playing football he can certainly look
forward to representing Australia at the next Olympics at kung-fu. He has
perfected the side kick and the tackles at Southern Stars and South Springvale are testament to his
development as an exponent of martial arts. He will have to be named “grasshopper” in future.
However, he still has a long way to go to match that of the “Masters” of Lawton Park in Trent
Fairclough, Mark Duff and Ritchie Armstrong.

Big day out for the ladies today with the “Pink Ladies Day” celebrations taking place. Likely to see
some funny sights by close of business as the girls try to down a vat of wine each all in the name of
charity. Great cause, great fun and some great hangovers!

CAPTAINS CORNER
Welcome to the final day of season 2014, What a season it
has been. If we enjoy another win today we will have won
16, drawn 1, lost 5 for 49pts – in other seasons this would
have won us the league. Hopefully our mate Jamie and
Noble Park do us a favour today and we pip Mornington at
the post for second place.
In our last home game beating Billy Armour’s Casey 2-0 was fitting
I thought, although we could have piled on many more goals. Last week
versus Sth Springvale I thought we were lucky to win 2-1 but when your
confident and on a winning run wins just seem to fall into place.
It has been a tremendous effort by all this season, a huge thank you
to the club for its brilliant support to us as 1st and 2nd team players. Also
to our large coaching staff thank you for your undying effort and
encouragement. Finally to our 1st team squad, my team mates well done for
staying fit and focussed this season – once we steadied about Round 7 we
have been largely unstopped, its been an enjoyable season, always nice when
you’re winning!
Finally well done to the Reserves for taking out the championship.
They a great bunch of lads, a tight knit unit and have pulled together on and
off the park this season especially. Congratulations.

Div 2 take on Baxter at home with a local clash and the legends are away to Boronia .
But the season is not over for the Ressies as the make there way to play Bayswater in the Cup Semi Finals
and hopefully to the finals to take out the cup.
