•
NIU has won the last four meetings, and have five of the last six
games in the series, including three straight at Huskie Stadium.
•
The Huskies’ 19 seniors will be taking the field at Huskie Stadium for
the last time in their NIU careers.
•
NIU became bowl eligible for the seventh consecutive season with
its win over Eastern Michigan, extending its MAC record. The Huskies
now have won at least six games 14 times in 15 seasons this century.
•
The Huskies’ 53 wins since 2010 ranks second among all FBS teams
behind Oregon and tied with Alabama and Florida State. NIU is
ahead of Stanford (51), LSU (51), Boise State (49) and Oklahoma (49).

The winningest program in Illinois and in the Mid-American
Conference over the last decade, the Huskies have won two MidAmerican Conference championships and four straight MAC West

SERIES HISTORY: Toledo boasts a 29-12 advantage in the series history between
the two schools, however, NIU has won five of the last six meetings, including four
straight. While Toledo has won 11 of 20 meeting between the two schools in DeKalb,
the Huskies have won the last three contests in Huskie Stadium while outscoring
Toledo, 134-61, for an average margin of victory of 24.3 points.
STRETCH RUN: With its Tuesday night home finale versus Toledo, the Huskies have
reached the midpoint of a stretch of four-of-five games on the road. NIU defeated
Eastern Michigan, 28-17, on Oct. 25 and beat Ball State Nov. 5 in Muncie, Indiana.
After the Toledo game, the Huskies close out the season with games at Ohio (Tues.,
Nov. 18) and at Western Michigan (Fri., Nov. 28). NIU plays four of its last five games
on the road for the second-straight season.
TROPHY GAME PART DEUX: While NIU and Ball State play for the Bronze Stalk
Trophy, which the Huskies were able to retain for the sixth straight year, the annual
NIU and Toledo game has turned into a trophy game of sorts as well. The MidAmerican Conference West Division title has been at stake in each of the last four
meetings between the Huskies and Rockets and this year’s game is no different.
Both Toledo (5-0 MAC) and NIU (4-1 MAC) need a win in this game to keep their
MAC West title hopes alive.
MAC AT HOME: NIU has won 18 of its last 19 MAC games at Huskie Stadium over
the last four seasons, and is 71-39-1 (.644) all-time in home conference games.
Central Michigan is the only MAC team to win in DeKalb since 2008. The Chippewas
scored a 33-30 win in overtime on Nov. 12, 2008 and knocked off NIU 34-17 on Oct.
11, 2014. NIU has won 71 percent (49-20) of its league games in Huskie Stadium
since starting its second stint in the MAC in 1997.
HUSKIES IN THE MAC: NIU is 127-92-2 all-time in MAC games with a 91-47 (.659)
record in league play since 1997. The Huskies have won 27 of 28 MAC regular season
contests and 35 of their last 36 since Oct. 1, 2011, a streak marred only by a loss to
CMU earlier this year. NIU is in its 29th season as a member of the Mid-American
Conference in 2014-15; the 2014 season is NIU’s 18th in the MAC since rejoining
the league in 1997.
EVERY DAY BUT SUNDAY (AND MONDAY): This week’s Tuesday night affair with
Toledo is the second of four consecutive weeknight games for NIU. The Huskies
defeated Ball State, 35-21, last Wednesday night. NIU travels to Athens, Ohio next
Tuesday night for a midweek game against the Bobcats before closing out the
season on Friday, Nov. 28 at Western Michigan. The Huskies began the season on a
Thursday night with a 55-3 victory over Presbyterian on Aug. 28 and will play games
on five different days of the week in 2014.
LET’S GO BOWLING!: Ten days after becoming bowl eligible with a 28-17 win
over Eastern Michigan on Oct. 25 to become the first team in the Mid-American
Conference to earn bowl eligibility in 2014, NIU made its case even stronger with
its win over Ball State, that ensured the Huskies of a winning regular season for the
sixth straight year. NIU extended its school and MAC record by becoming bowl
eligible for the seventh straight season. In 2014, the league has five primary bowl
tie-ins and three backup agreements.
THE BEST: Since the start of the 2010
season, the Huskies are among the
nation’s winningest FBS teams. NIU
is 53-11 (under three head coaches),
tied with Florida State and Alabama
in wins. Only Oregon (55 wins) has
won more games (prior to Saturday’s
contests) during that stretch. Entering
this weekend’s games, the Crimson
Tide has posted a 53-8 mark since
2010, while Oregon is 55-7. Stanford
and LSU also have 51 wins over the
past five years.

NIU Head Coach Rod Carey
Over a four-month period in the fall of 2012, Rod Carey
went from coordinating the run game and coaching the
offensive line of the NIU Huskies, to offensive coordinator
of one of the most explosive offenses in the country, to
head coach of the first Mid-American Conference team to
play in a Bowl Championship Series (BCS) bowl game.
Carey’s promotion to head coach of Northern Illinois
University’s football team was announced on December
2, 2012, just minutes before NIU learned that the team
had earned a historic bid to face Florida State in the 2013
Discover Orange Bowl.
That hard work paid off in 2013 as Carey led NIU to an undefeated regular season
that included two wins over Big Ten Conference teams – a 30-27 last-minute win
over Iowa in the season opener and a 55-24 blowout victory at Purdue. Behind AllAmericans Jordan Lynch and Jimmie Ward, the Huskies spent 12 weeks in the Top
25 rankings and coasted through the league slate to win the MAC West title and
advance to the MAC Championship game for the fourth straight year.
Carey became the third NIU mentor to be named the MAC Coach of the Year,
following in the footsteps of greats Bill Mallory (1983) and Joe Novak (2002), and
was a semifinalist for the Maxwell Football Club Coach of the Year Award. He is the
first league coach to win two games over Big Ten Conference opponents in one
season.
Prolific offensive production, leading to four consecutive 11-plus win seasons,
has been a hallmark of Carey’s four seasons in DeKalb. In his first season at NIU, he
coached a pair of All-American offensive lineman as center Scott Wedige and left
tackle Trevor Olson were named All-Americans by CBSSports.com and Phil Steele’s
magazine, respectively. Tommylee Lewis joined Ward and Lynch, earning All-America
honors a year ago, while Lynch’s historic career was capped by a third-place finish
in the Heisman Trophy voting and a trip to New York for the Heisman festivities.
Carey joined the Huskies after three seasons coaching the offensive line at the
University of North Dakota. Five of Carey’s offensive linemen earned GWC allconference honors in his last three seasons at UND.
Prior to going to North Dakota, Carey spent the 2007 season as the offensive line
coach at Illinois State. His Redbird offensive line featured three players that received
professional football opportunities.
From 2000-06, Carey served on the coaching staff at the University of WisconsinStout, where he was the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. In all, Carey
coached 26 all-conference selections and seven All-Americans during his time at
UW-Stout.
Carey began his collegiate coaching career at the University of Minnesota (199899) where he helped the Gophers to their first bowl game in over a decade with a
trip to the 1999 Sun Bowl. Prior to UM, he spent four seasons in the high school
ranks at his alma mater, Wayzata (Minn.) High School, from 1994-97.
A three-year starter at center for Indiana during his collegiate playing days, Carey
served as a team captain and won IU’s Corby Davis Outstanding Offensive Player
Award as a senior. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana in 1994.
Carey and his wife Tonya have two children, daughter Kennedi (10) and son
Charlie (7).

second-winningest senior class in program history, passing the 2012 seniors, with
their 42nd career victory (2011-14). The 19 members of NIU’s senior class are now
42-9 for a winning percentage of .823. The 2012 senior class compiled a four-year
mark of 41-13, The 2014 seniors have been on teams that won 11 games in 2011,
and 12 games in 2012 and 2013. Only one class, the 2013 seniors, is ahead of them

RUSHING TO THE ENDZONE: Beginning with its 51-41 victory over Miami on Oct.
18, 2014, the NIU offense has scored 14 of its last 15 touchdowns on the ground.
The only TD scored through the air in the last three games was a 61-yard touchdown
pass from Drew Hare to Da’Ron Brown with 5:58 left in the second quarter against
Miami. Cameron Stingily leads the way with six rushing TDs, while Drew Hare
and Aregeros Turner have scored three and two touchdowns, respectfully, on the
ground during that span. Joel Bouagnon, Jordan Huff and Anthony Maddie have
each scored a rushing touchdown during that stretch. NIU scored a season-high
six rushing touchdowns against Miami, and added four rushing scores versus both
EMU and Ball State.
UNDEFEATED AT 45: The Huskies rushed for 236 yards on 62 carries in their 3521 victory over Ball State Wednesday night. It was the third time this season NIU
rushed the ball 60 or more times. Since 2010, NIU is 31-0 when the Huskies rush the
ball 45 times or more. When rushing the ball 40 times or more, the Huskies have
posted a 41-2 mark. The Huskies rushed 77 times against Presbyterian (Aug. 28,
2014), four attempts shy of the school record 81 set in 1987. It was the most rushing
attempts by NIU in a game in the last five seasons. Over the last five seasons, NIU is
11-10 when rushing less than 40 times a game.

LEAGUE HONOREE: Sophomore cornerback Anthony Brooks joined Rasheen Lemon
as the second Huskie to garner MAC West Defensive Player of the Week honors
and the fourth different Huskie to earn Mid-American Conference weekly accolades
this season. Brooks earned the award after returning his first career interception
21 yards for a touchdown in NIU’s win at Ball State and adding four tackles and a
pass break up. The score was the first for a Huskie defender this season. Drew Hare
picked up MAC West Offensive Player of the Week and Tyler Wedel earned MAC
West Special Teams Player of the Week following their performances in a win at
UNLV. Lemon earned his weekly award following NIU’s win at Northwestern.

UNSUNG PERFORMANCE: NIU punter Tyler Wedel’s punting played an
integral role in the Huskies’ 35-21 victory at Ball State Wednesday night.
Wedel averaged 42.4 yards on a season-high eight punts. The senior
from McFarland, Wis. helped NIU win the field position battle, pinning
the Cardinals inside the five-yard line on three separate occasions and
inside the 20 five times. His career-long 64-yard punt in the fourth
quarter forced the Cardinals to start on their one-yard line. BSU also
started on its three and two yard lines as the Huskies’ punt coverage unit
also contributed. Only one of Wedel’s punts on the day was returned,
and that return went just two yards.
HUSKIE HIGH FIVE: The Huskie defense forced five Ball State turnovers
– three interceptions and two fumbles – the most by a NIU defense
since last season’s win at Purdue, when NIU intercepted four passes and
recovered one fumble. Cornerbacks Anthony Brooks and Paris Logan
and defensive tackle Ben Compton each recorded interceptions, the first
career INTs for both Brooks and Compton, while Logan’s pick was his
team-leading second of the season and his first since the Northwestern
game. Jamaal Payton and Sean Folliard each recovered fumbles, with
Payton’s coming on the Huskies’ first kickoff and setting up NIU’s second
score.
TAKING ADVANTAGE OF TAKEAWAYS: With five takeaways in its win
at Ball State, the NIU defense upped its season total to 12 takeaways –
eight interceptions and four fumble recoveries – in nine games. NIU has
converted 10 of those turnovers into 52 points with four touchdowns
and a field goal off of its eight interceptions, and three touchdowns off
of three fumbles. The Huskies rank second in the league and 30th in the
country in turnover margin with five more takeaways than turnovers.
PLAYING KEEP AWAY: NIU has done an excellent job of taking care of
the football in 2014, leading the MAC and ranking fifth in the nation in
turnovers lost. The Huskies have lost five fumbles, which ranks third in
the league, and thrown two interceptions, tied with seven other teams
for fewest interceptions in the country.
SCORE ONE FOR THE DEFENSE: NIU has won 40 of its last 41 games
when allowing 24 points or less. The last time the Huskies held a team
under 24 points and lost was in the 2013 Poinsettia Bowl (Dec. 26) when
Utah State defeated NIU, 21-14. The Huskies are second in the league in
scoring defense in 2014, allowing 23.6 points a game.
THAT STINGS: Tailback Cameron Stingily posted his third 100-yard
rushing performance of the season, with a season-high 148 yards on 26
carries in NIU’s victory at Ball State. Stingily gained 117 yards rushing in
the second half and 91 yards in the fourth quarter as he powered the
Huskie offense. The senior from Romeoville, Illinois now has 1,784 career
rushing yards to move up to 21st on NIU’s all-time rushing yardage list,
just 12 yards shy of breaking into the top 20. Stingily has six career 100yard rushing games with three in each of the last two seasons.
CAREER HIGH FOR CAMERON: Cameron Stingily rushed for a careerhigh three touchdowns in NIU’s 35-21 victory at Ball State. The Huskie
senior reached the endzone on runs of nine, one and two yards. Stingily
now has eight TDs on the season and 17 for his career.
SACK IT TO ME: Entering the final month of the season, senior
defensive end Jason Meehan is approaching rarified air in single-season
and career sacks. The St. Louis native is currently second in the MAC
with 6.0 sacks, trailing Eastern Michigan’s Pat O’Connor by just 0.5 sacks.
In addition, Meehan is one sack away from moving into the top 10 in
program history for career sacks. One more drop of the QB would also
give the senior a career-high for a single season, topping his 6.5 sacks
as a freshman.
STARTING ANEW: After seeing it’s 17-game road-winning streak come
to an end with a 52-14 loss at Arkansas, the Huskies have responded
with back-to-back road wins with a 35-21 win at Ball State on Nov. 5 and
a 28-17 triumph at Eastern Michigan on Oct. 25. During its road-winning
streak, NIU defeated Iowa, Northwestern, Purdue and Army. In 2013,
NIU was the only FBS school to win all seven of its road games.
HAGAN IN THERE: Freshman kicker Christian Hagan made his collegiate
debut Wednesday in the Huskies’ 35-21 victory at Ball State. The Omaha,
Nebraska, native converted all five of his PATs after replacing senior Tyler
Wedel, who will concentrate on punting. Hagan is the first true freshman
kicker to see game action since 2010, when Mathew Sims was two-ofthree on field goals and four-of-six on extra points in five games.
FIRST IN THIRD (DOWN EFFICIENCY): After converting three-of-11
third downs in the first half at Ball State, the Huskie offense was better
than 50 percent in the second half. NIU went seven-for-11 in the final
two quarters. NIU leads the MAC and ranks fifth nationally in third
down efficiency, going 77-for-149 on third down opportunities for a
51.7 percent clip. Third down efficiency is one of seven NCAA statistical
categories in which NIU leads the MAC and is top 10 in the nation.
UP NEXT: Following the Nov. 11 contest with Toledo, the Huskies return
to the road for their two regular season games. NIU travels to Athens,
Ohio to face the Bobcats of Ohio Nov. 18. Tuesday night’s contest will
be the first meeting between the two schools since the 2011 MAC
Championship game where NIU posted an incredible 23-20 comefrom-behind victory. It is NIU’s first visit to Peden Stadium since a 38-31
setback to the Bobcats Nov. 21, 2009. The last Huskie victory at Ohio
was in 1982, a 36-0 shutout of the Bobcats.
JUST KICKING IT: Tyler Wedel has been an effective weapon as a
punter for the Huskies this season. In addition to booting a career-long
64-yard punt at Ball State, he has pinned the opposition inside the 20yard line 15 times this season, surpassing his career-high of 14 set last
season. Wedel has landed five punts inside the 20 a game twice this
season, at Ball State (11-5) and against Kent State (10-4). He has also
dropped 11 punts inside the 10-yard line in 2014.
STERLING SCHOLAR-ATHLETE: Huskie fullback Rob Sterling can add
CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 first team honors to his list of academic
achievements in 2014. The Lansing, Illinois native, who carries a 3.63
grade point average in accountancy, was named one of 167 semifinalists
for the 2014 National Football Foundation (NFF) Scholar-Athlete Awards,
presented by Fidelity Investments earlier this season. It is the second
time in his career Sterling earned Academic All-District honors as he was
also named to the squad as a sophomore in 2012.
ON THE REBOUND: The Huskies rebounded from their 34-17 setback
to Central Michigan (Oct. 11) with a 51-41 win over Miami. Since the
start of the 2010 season, the Huskies are 9-2 in games following a loss,
including a 5-1 mark since an 18-17 loss to Iowa at Soldier Field to open
the 2012 season. NIU posted a 17-14 win over Kent State on Oct. 4, 2014
following the Huskies’ loss to Arkansas earlier this year. NIU has only lost
back-to-back games twice since 2010, once during the 2011 season and
at the end of 2013. NIU has not had a three-game losing streak since the
end of the 2009 season.
NO PUNT, NO PROBLEM: NIU punter/kicker Tyler Wedel had a halfday of work so to speak in the Huskies’ 51-41 win over Miami as the
senior from McFarland, Wis. did not attempt a single punt. The dual-use
kicker was only needed for field goals and extra points. He was 1-of-2
on field goal attempts, including a 28-yard kick, and was 6-of-7 on extra
point attempts. The last time the Huskies went a game without punting
was Oct. 15, 2011 in a 51-22 victory over Western Michigan.

future home-and-home series in a week of announcements
dubbed “SchedulePalooza” this summer and again in the

NOT A COINCIDENCE: The Huskies lead the MAC and are ninth in the country
in net punting as Tyler Wedel is averaging 43.2 yards a punt. Opponents have
returned 10 punts for 29 yards. Concurrently, the Huskies are also first in the MAC
and sixth in the country in punt return defense as NIU allows an average of 2.9
yards a return.
PRIOR EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: NIU’s starting offensive linemen –Tyler Loos,
Tyler Pitt, Andrew Ness, Aidan Conlon and Ryan Brown – have played in a
combined 199 games and started a total of 146 contests in their Huskie careers.
Loos, Pitt and Brown are redshirt seniors, with 29, 10 and 33 starts, respectively.
Ness and Conlon are redshirt juniors who have started 37 consecutive games at
guard and center, respectively, over the last two seasons.
SUPERIOR PROTECTION: The Huskies lead the MAC and are sixth in the country
in sacks allowed, having allowed only seven sacks through nine games this
season. The NIU offensive line, which features five players with 146 combined
starts, have not allowed a sack in five games this season, most recently in NIU’s
victory over Eastern Michigan on Oct. 25. This is nothing new for the Huskie front
five. In 2013, NIU finished second in the conference and fifth in the country in
fewest sacks allowed.
MAC CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH: All three of NIU’s MAC East foes in 2014 are
teams the Huskies faced in the MAC Championship games over the last four
years. NIU avenged its 2010 MAC Championship loss to Miami by defeating the
RedHawks, 51-41, Oct. 18 and dispatched the Huskies’ 2012 MAC Championship
game adversary, Kent State, 17-14, earlier this year. NIU will travel to Athens, Ohio
Nov. 18 to face their 2011 MAC title game foe, Ohio. NIU won its first conference
championship since 1983 by defeating the Bobcats, 23-20, in that contest. It will
be the first game between the two schools since that meeting.
FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME: NIU sophomore wide receiver Aregeros Turner is
racking up the milestones in his sophomore season. Turner completed his first
career pass attempt when he connected with NIU quarterback Drew Hare on
an 18-yard pass in the second quarter of NIU’s 51-41 win over Miami Oct. 18.
The play set up Turner for a one-yard touchdown run, the second rushing TD
of his career. Turner scored his first career touchdown in NIU’s 52-14 setback at
Arkansas. His 17 catches for 159 yards rank third on the team this year.
UNDER 18 PERMITTED: NIU’s 17-14 win over Kent State was the first win for
the Huskies while scoring 17 or less points since Oct. 25, 2008, when the Huskies
defeated Bowling Green, 16-13. NIU has played 76 games since that time with
56 wins. In 2008, NIU won two games while scoring 17 points or less, the Bowling
Green contest and prior to that, a 17-13 win over Miami, on Oct. 11.
FILL THE BONEYARD: With its 23-15 victory over Big Ten Conference foe
Northwestern on Sept. 6, NIU will add another dog bone (stickers) to the wall in
its locker room. The Huskies have 14 wins over teams from larger conferences.

HONORING BOB BRIGHAM: Northern Illinois University student-athletes from all 17
sports will honor the memory of iconic former director of athletics Robert J. Brigham,
who passed away last May at the age of 90, by wearing “RJB” patches or stickers
throughout the 2014-15 academic year. Northern Illinois University will honor the
memory of the late Dr. Robert J. Brigham, Sr., whose 50 years of service to the university
included 19 as the Huskies’ director of athletics and dated back to his time as an NIU
student-athlete, on Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Barsema Alumni & Visitors Center
on the NIU campus.
HARE-RAISING PERFORMANCES: After rushing for 180 yards and two touchdowns
against Miami Oct. 18, Drew Hare followed up that 100-yard performance with 166
yards, including a 78-yard touchdown scamper, in a 28-17 win at Eastern Michigan.
Even more impressive, though, is that it took the O’Fallon, Missouri, native fewer than
20 carries to hit those marks, finishing with 17 against the RedHawks and 13 against the
Eagles. The two-week stretch marks the first time in Hare’s career that he has topped
the century mark in consecutive games, in addition to being the first 100-yard rushing
games of his career.
OFFENSIVE STATEMENTS: The Huskies have accumulated 500 or more yards of total
offense 56 times in program history and NIU has accomplished that feat against Ball
State five times - tied for the most against any opponent (Eastern Michigan). Leading
that list is NIU’s 41-38 win over the Cardinals in 2011 in which the Huskies piled up
710 yards of total offense to rank as the second-most in a single game. The Huskies
recorded 610 yards against BSU in 2006, 569 yards in 2013, 515 yards in 2004 and 509
in 2012.
YARD WORK: With 658 yards of total offense, – 433 rushing and 255 passing – in its
victory over Miami, NIU tied its sixth-highest yardage total of all-time. The Huskies’
total was their best this season and the most since NIU tallied 658 yards against Eastern
Michigan (Oct. 26, 2013) last year.
GETTING IT DONE ON THE GROUND: NIU’s 433 rushing yards against the RedHawks
was the 11th-highest rushing total by a Huskie football team in school history and the
highest total this season. The Huskies rushed for 424 yards on 77 carries in the season
opener versus Presbyterian on Aug. 28, 2014. NIU’s 857 rushing yardage total in those
two games accounts for 47 percent of its total on the year.
HIGH SCHOOL REUNION: Aurora Christian High School, a 3A school in nearby Aurora,
has four recent graduates currently playing critical roles for the Huskies, more than
any other school. Tailback Joel Bouagnon and defensive back Brandon Mayes have
seen action in all nine games and recorded stats this season, while wide receiver Chad
Beebe and quarterback Anthony Maddie, have played in eight games. Mayes, who has
23 tackles, 19 solo, and a forced fumble as the Huskies’ nickelback, made the first start
of his career at safety against Miami on Oct. 18, and led NIU in tackles with six stops.
Bouagnon is third on the team in rushing with 443 yards and five touchdowns, while
Maddie has rushed for 199 yards and passed for 221 in a back-up role. Beebe has 14
receptions for 144 yards, including a season-long 32-yard reception against Central
Michigan, and 13 punt returns for 118 yards.
HUSKIES IN THE NFL
With the addition of Rashaan Melvin to the Miami Dolphins practice squad, the list
of NIU’s former players currently in the NFL now stands at six (active and practice
squad). Former Huskie defensive tackle Ken Bishop, who was waived by the Dallas
Cowboys last week, was resigned to the Cowboys’ practice squad on Oct. 21. After
missing a week due to injury, Larry English was back on the field in Tampa Bay’s
19-13 overtime loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

TOLEDO, Ohio – Jordan Lynch ran for 161 yards on 28 carries and scored three second-half rushing touchdowns, and threw for 202 yards on 17-of-22 passing to lead No.
16 Northern Illinois to a 35-17 victory over Toledo Wednesday night at the Glass Bowl in
Toledo. With the win, NIU improved its record to 11-0 for the first time in school history.
The Huskies clinched the MAC West Division title and its fourth consecutive appearance
in the Marathon MAC Championship game.
Lynch gained 131 yards on 15 carries in the second half and scored on touchdown runs of
12, 31 and one yards. His final touchdown run came with 9:38 to play and capped a 15play, 99-yard drive that consumed 5:18 on the clock. Lynch ran for 62 yards on the drive,
which put the Huskies ahead 28-17.
On the first possession of the second half, NIU drove 85 yards in six plays and 6:33 to
take a 14-10 lead. Lynch hit Juwan Brescacin on completions of 11 and 32 yards, and Jacob Brinlee added a 27-yard catch. With starting receivers Tommylee Lewis and Da’Ron
Brown sidelined by injuries, Brescacin caught a career best eight passes for 121 yards in
the game.
In the second half, the NIU rushing game won the day. as the Huskies ran for 268 of
their 364 rushing yards after halftime. In addition to Lynch’s yards, Cameron Stingily had
146 yards on 18 carries and Ohio native James Spencer added 32 yards and two rushing
scores. He scored the Huskies’ first and last touchdowns including a one-yard run that iced
the game for NIU with 5:39 to play.
After Toledo took a 17-14 lead on a 36-yard pass from QB Terrance Owens to Bernard
Reedy with 8:34 to play in the third quarter, NIU responded with a six-play, 65-yard drive
capped by a Lynch 31-yard run for a 21-17 Huskie lead.
The Huskies went into halftime trailing 10-7 after Owens hit Alonzo Russell with a 45-yard
touchdown pass with 51 seconds left in the half.
Mays’ first career interception came in the end zone as he picked off running back Kareem
Hunt’s pass and returned it to the NIU 10-yard line with 6:27 to play in the second quarter.
The Huskies then drove 52 yards to the Toledo 23, where Mathew Sims’ 40-yard field goal
try was wide right.
Rainey forced a Toledo fumble on the first play of the game to give the Huskies the ball on
the UT 21-yard line. Three plays later, Spencer ran in from 21 yards out for a touchdown
and a 7-0 NIU lead with 13:34 to play in the first quarter.
Two UT possessions later, Jimmie Ward tipped Owens’ pass to himself and made the diving interception to give NIU the ball on its own 22. The Huskies drove to the Toledo sixyard line, but Sims missed a 23-yard field goal.

Joel Bouagnon scored four touchdowns as NIU opened the season with a 55-3
victory over Presbyterian College on Thursday night at Huskie Stadium. NIU
racked up 635 yards of total offense, 424 coming on the ground, as it extended
its Huskie Stadium winning streak to a nation-leading 27 games.
NIU used a 23-point second half offensive outburst and an unrelenting defense
to defeat in-state foe Northwestern, 23-15, Saturday at Ryan Field in Evanston.
The Huskies won their third consecutive game over a Big Ten Conference opponent, and claimed their first win in eight tries over the Wildcats.
The Huskies ran a program-record 109 plays on offense, while the defense held
Presbyterian to just six first downs in the game to tie the school record for fewest
first downs allowed, last set in 2002.
NIU won its 25th consecutive regular season game and its 16th straight true road
game. The Huskies are 5-3 versus Big Ten teams since 2009.
Bouagnon gained 97 yards on 16 carries while Akeem Daniels rushed for 118
yards on 15 carries. Eleven different players carried the football for the Huskies.
NIU took the lead on a 58-yard, eight-play drive as quarterback Matt McIntosh
connected with wide receiver Da’Ron Brown for a 39-yard touchdown reception.
Brown led NIU with seven catches for 91 yards.
After a Presbyterian three-and-out, the Huskies added three points on a 32-yard
field goal by kicker Tyler Wedel. The Huskie defense forced another punt, and NIU
scored again as Bouagnon found the end zone from a yard out to increase the
NIU lead to 17-0 with 1:12 to play in the first quarter.
Presbyterian opened the second quarter with a punt and it took the Huskies
seven plays and 2:20 to go 69 yards for another score. Daniels picked up 29 yards
to put the Huskies in scoring position and two plays later, Bouagnon found a big
hole up the middle to score from 23 yards out.
Bouagnon scored a third touchdown on a nine-yard run to cap a 13-play, 73-yard
drive as NIU pushed its lead to 31-0 with 2:30 left in the first half. The Huskies
closed out the first half scoring when Wedel connected on a 26-yard field goal
with three seconds left, giving NIU a 34-0 lead at the break.
The Huskies added to their advantage on the opening possession of the second
half. Quarterback Drew Hare ran for 25 yards to get NIU across midfield; he then
connected with Juwan Brescacin on a 49-yard slant for a touchdown as the Huskies lead grew to 41-0.
An interception by freshman Albert Smalls gave the ball back to NIU at the PC
12. Three plays later, Bouagnon found the end zone for the fourth time, scoring
from a yard out.
Presbyterian got on the scoreboard with a 31-yard field goal by Brandon Morrow

Drew Hare, the third quarterback to play in the game for NIU, sparked the Huskies
to three second-half touchdowns. The sophomore from O’Fallon, Mo. completed
six-of-10 passes for 109 yards, including touchdown passes of 18 and 59 yards to
senior receiver Da’Ron Brown. Hare also scored on a four-yard run.
Brown finished the game with six catches for 128 yards while Akeem Daniels
rushed for 81 yards on 16 carries to power a Huskie rushing attack that totaled
221 yards on 55 carries by seven different players.
The teams played to a 0-0 halftime tie as defenses dominated early. NIU got a
spectacular interception in the end zone from junior cornerback Paris Logan to
thwart one Wildcat drive and forced five punts in the half.
Hare took over to start the third quarter and led NIU on a 10-play, 60-yard drive
to the Wildcat 15, where Tyler Wedel’s field goal attempt from 32 yards was good
for a 3-0 Huskie lead.
Northwestern responded with a four-play, 60-yard drive that ended with a 19yard touchdown pass from Trevor Siemian to Kyle Prater to give the Wildcats their
only lead of the game.
Then, the Huskie defense rose up. NIU recorded three of its five sacks in the second half and Northwestern finished the half with zero (0) net yards rushing on 12
carries for the half. The Wildcats were also penalized for holding several times.
Linebacker Rasheen Lemon and defensive end Jason Meehan each collected a
pair of sacks. NIU broke up six passes and forced three fumbles.
NIU took the lead for good with 52 seconds to play in the third quarter when
Hare hit Brown from 18 yards out to complete a 13-play, 82-yard drive. Two
possessions later, Hare connected with Brown on a 59-yard laser to the end zone
to give NIU a 16-7 lead (after the PAT was blocked).
The NIU defense forced a Northwestern three-and-out, and Chad Beebe’s 36yard punt return set up NIU on the NU 22. Four plays later, Hare ran it in from
four yards out and Wedel’s PAT made it 23-7 with 3:27 to play.
Northwestern got a late touchdown pass and two-point conversion but Brown
recovered the onside kick attempt and NIU ran out the clock for the win.

The Northern Illinois University Huskies fought off a furious third-quarter comeback by UNLV to claim a 48-34 victory over the Rebels and improve to 3-0 on the
2014 season Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Razorbacks were too much for the Northern
Illinois University Huskies to handle as NIU fell to 3-1 on the season after dropping a 52-14 decision in Fayetteville.
After extending a 21-5 halftime lead to 28-5 on its first drive of the second half,
the Huskies saw UNLV come all the way back to tie the game, 34-34, with 9:18 to
play. But NIU’s playmakers answered the challenge over the final minutes to give
the Huskies the win.
Arkansas’ special teams and defense accounted for its first two touchdowns, and
while the Huskie defense played valiantly at times, holding the Razorbacks below
their per rush average, they could not hold up as UA effectively mixed the run
and the pass.
UNLV tied the game on a nine-yard pass from quarterback Blake Decker to
Shaquille Murray-Lawrence. One play earlier, Decker had hit Kendal Keys on a 41yard bomb to the nine. A two-point conversion pass to Devante Davis completed
the comeback.
NIU saw its nation-leading 17-game road winning streak come to an end and
dropped its first regular season contest in 27 games, since the 2012 season opener versus Iowa.
The Huskies were not done. After a pair of Keith Harris runs netted a first down,
Hare hit receiver Da’Ron Brown down the sidelines for a 54-yard touchdown. The
score put the Huskies back on top, 41-34, with 8:23 to play.
The Razorbacks’ Korliss Marshall returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a
touchdown. Later in the first quarter, NIU quarterback Drew Hare was sacked and
his fumble was picked up on the NIU 14 by UA’s Darius Philon and returned for
a touchdown.
Then it was the NIU defense’s turn. Decker led the Rebels on a drive to the NIU
seven. On first and goal, the UNLV QB looked for All-America candidate Davis in
the end zone. Davis, who caught six passes for 150 yards and two scores in the
game, was covered by junior Paris Logan, who tipped the ball into the arms of
NIU safety Marlon Moore.
NIU went three-and-out on its next drive and Arkansas drove 69 yards in 12 plays
to score its first offensive touchdown. Jonathan Williams broke four tackles to
score from 15 yards out and the Razorbacks took a 21-0 lead with 21 seconds to
play in the first quarter.
The Huskies got the ball with 5:22 to play and used the rushing of Cameron Stingily and Hare, and a big third-down completion to Aregeros Turner to drive down
the field. Stingily’s 22-yard run put NIU on the UNLV four-yard line with 2:18 to
play and he scored three plays later to give the Huskies a 48-34 lead.
Hare completed 18-of-28 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns, and added
74 rushing yards on 14 carries with a score. Stingily led the Huskies’ 331-yard
rushing attack with 102 yards on 17 carries and two scores. Brown recorded his
second consecutive 100-yard receiving game with six catches for 138 yards.
After NIU took a 28-5 lead on Hare’s 12-yard touchdown run on the first drive of
the second half, the third quarter belonged to UNLV. The Rebels outscored the
Huskies 21-3 the rest of the period as Decker hit Davis for TDs of 26 and 53 yards,
and Murray-Lawrence scored on a two-yard run, making the score 31-26, NIU.

After Arkansas missed a 43-yard field goal, NIU put together its best offensive
series of the game. Joel Bouagnon ran for 25 yards and Hare hit Aregeros Turner
three times on the drive, including on the 11-yard touchdown play.
Bouagnon led the Huskies in receiving with five catches for 71 yards and a touchdown on an 11-yard screen pass in the final quarter. Bouagnon also gained 45
yards on a screen in the first quarter for his career long play. Hare completed 18of-29 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns in the game.
The Razorbacks drove 71 yards in 10 plays and 2:40 to take a 28-7 halftime lead
with UA quarterback Brandon Allen finding Jared Cornelius in the end zone for
the 10-yard touchdown.
NIU struggled to put together anything offensively in the third quarter. and
despite playing tough run defense early, Arkansas took a 35-7 lead with 3:34 to
play in the period on a two-yard run by Allen.
Down 38-7 early in the fourth, NIU used 10 plays to go 75 yards, with Hare
hitting Bouagnon on the screen for the score. With 10:05 to play, NIU trailed
38-14 before Arkansas scored twice more to provide the final margin.

Kent State’s game-tying, 56-yard field goal effort with 2:15 to play came up short,
giving NIU a 17-14 victory over the Golden Flashes in its MAC opener.
Behind Thomas Rawls’ 270 rushing yards and two touchdowns, Central Michigan
knocked off NIU, 34-17, in a Mid-American Conference West Division matchup at Huskie Stadium. The loss snapped the Huskies’ 28-game home stadium
winning streak and ended NIU’s 24-game regular season winning streak against
MAC opponents.
With the Huskie offense unable to find a consistent rhythm, the NIU defense
stepped up. Kent State managed just a pair of field goals through the first 53
minutes before scoring its lone touchdown of the game with 7:15 to play. The
two-point conversion pulled the Golden Flashes within three, 17-14.
After NIU quarterback Anthony Maddie was intercepted to give Kent State the
ball back at its own 39 with 6:01 on the clock, the Golden Flashes marched to the
NIU 34. QB Colin Reardon gained eight yards on fourth-and-one, but was injured
on the play. On the next play, Perez Ford and Rasheen Lemon sacked KSU backup Nathan Strock for a five-yard loss. After two incomplete passes, Kent State
attempted the long field goal, and the Huskies ran out the clock.
NIU held Kent State to 83 yards rushing and KSU converted just three of 16 first
downs in the game. Huskie defenders combined for eight tackles for loss, and
recorded a sack and two hurries on KSU’s final drive.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Maddie came in at quarterback and marched
the Huskies 80 yards in nine plays. He connected with receiver Da’Ron Brown for
37 yards on a third down play before Brown found the end zone on the jet sweep
to give the Huskies a 7-0 lead.
Kent State answered with a field goal to cut the Huskie advantage to 7-3. The
Golden Flashes advanced to the NIU one-yard line before linebacker Jamaal Bass
stuffed KSU running back Nick Holley for no gain on third-and-goal.
Jordan Huff took the opening kickoff of the second half 66 yards to the Kent State
30, setting up a 40-yard field goal for Tyler Wedel as the Huskies took a 10-3 lead.
A three-and-out gave the ball back to NIU and the Huskies needed just five plays
and 1:37 to find the end zone. Maddie connected with junior Juwan Brescacin
for 49 yards to the Kent State 27. Three plays later, Huff ran 18 yards for his first
career score as NIU pushed its lead to 17-3.
Brescacin finished with a game-high 116 yards receiving on three catches.
The Huskies and Golden Flashes traded punts before Kent State added a field
goal to cut the NIU lead to 17-6 with 1:53 to play in the third quarter. The Golden
Flashes reached the NIU 10-yard line but three-straight incomplete passes forced
Kent State to settle for a field goal with 1:53 to play in the third quarter.
Kent State scored its first touchdown with 7:15 to play in the game. A 20-yard
carry by James Brooks, followed by a 30-yard pass from Reardon to Kris White,
helped move the Golden Flashes into Huskie territory. Four plays later Reardon
scored from two yards out, and then connected with Casey Pierce on the twopoint conversion as the Golden Flashes trimmed the Huskie lead to 17-14.

The Huskies opened the game with a five-play, 71-yard drive that culminated
with a 20-yard strike from quarterback Drew Hare to junior receiver Juwan Brescacin. CMU countered with a 10-play, 86-yard response that ended with Rawls
finding the endzone from five yards out to knot the game at 7-7.
After an NIU punt, the Chippewas moved out of the shadow of their own endzone courtesy of a 39-yard pass from quarterback Cooper Rush to Jesse Kroll. An
18-yard completion put the CMU offense at the NIU 13, where Rawls rumbled for
a 13-yard touchdown to give the visitors a 14-7 lead.
The teams traded punts before the CMU offense again found its rhythm and
drove to the NIU 16. Following a five-yard gain by Rawls, Rush found Jesse Kroll
on a six-yard touchdown to put the Huskies in a 14-point hole entering the half.
Rawls jumpstarted the Chippewa offense out of the intermission with a 22-yard
run. Two long completions from Rush to Titus Davis put CMU at the NIU 15. On
third-and-three at the NIU 8, Logan came through with a breakup, forcing CMU
to settle for a 25-yard field goal by Brian Eavey and a 24-7 lead.
NIU’s hurry-up attack on the ensuing drive seemed to get the Huskie offense in
gear, before Cameron Stingily was stopped on fourth-and three from the CMU 49
and the Chippewas took over.
Three plays later, NIU’s Michael Santacaterina stepped in front of a Rush pass and
raced down the sidelines before getting pushed out at the CMU 25, setting up a
24-yard chip shot field goal by Tyler Wedel.
CMU came back with an eight-play, 80-yard drive capped by a 13-yard pass from
Rush to Ben McCord that put CMU up by 21 with 3:20 to play in the the third
quarter. Rawls accounted for 49 yards on the drive.
Hare lofted a pass deep downfield to Da’Ron Brown, who came down with a 49yard catch to move NIU into CMU territory. Two plays later, Hare hit Brescacin
ifrom 14 yards out, getting NIU within 31-17.
From there, Rawls and the Chippewas’ rushing attack took over, grinding the
clock down and adding a 23-yard field goal from Eavey to complete the scoring.
NIU finished with just 110 yards rushing on 33 carries.

Quarterback Drew Hare gained 180 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns and
threw for 185 yards on 12-of-16 passing with a touchdown as NIU earned a 51-41
victory over Miami (Ohio) Saturday at Huskie Stadium.
YPSILANTI, Mich. - Quarterback Drew Hare ran for 166 yards and NIU scored a
pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to defeat Eastern Michigan, 28-17, Saturday
at Rynearson Stadium.
The Huskies gained 658 yards of total offense and did not punt in the win. Cameron Stingily gained 133 yards on 23 carries with a touchdown while wide receiver
Da’Ron Brown had four catches for 128 yards and a score.
NIU improved its season record to 6-2 overall, 3-1 in Mid-American Conference
play, to become bowl eligible for the seventh straight season. A week after running for 433 yards in a win over Miami, NIU totaled 332 rushing yards, with all
four of its touchdowns scored on the ground. Hare opened the scoring with a
career-long 78-yard touchdown run on the Huskies’ third play from scrimmage
and averaged 12.8 yards on a team-high 13 rushes in the game.
NIU picked up chunks of yardage on the ground, averaging nearly 7.9 yards per
carry on 55 rushes, but Miami used the passing game to stay within reach to the
end. Five different Huskies scored rushing touchdowns.
NIU opened the scoring with a 73-yard touchdown drive, with all eight plays
on the ground. Hare carried for 43 yards and Stingily picked up 37 on the drive,
which was capped by a six-yard run by freshman Jordan Huff. The Huskies missed
the extra point, and Miami answered as quarterback Andrew Hendrix connected
with Rokeem Williams from 24 yards out for the score, giving MU a 7-6 lead.
The Huskies took the lead for good on a 28-yard field goal by Tyler Wedel with
4:03 to play in the first quarter. NIU increased its lead to 16-7 before the end of
the period when Hare ran 43 yards for a touchdown. NIU gained 170 rushing
yards in the quarter, including 113 by Hare.
Anthony Maddie led the Huskies on a 10-play, 60-yard scoring drive to open the
second quarter, and Stingily finished the drive with a one-yard run as NIU pushed
its lead to 23-7.
The RedHawks cut the lead to 23-14 with 7:03 to play in the second, but it took
the Huskies just four plays and one minute to answer. Hare found Brown for a
61-yard touchdown pass with 5:58 left in the half and NIU led 30-14.
Following a short Miami punt, the Huskies scored on a one-yard run by Aregeros
Turner. The 37-yard drive included an 18-yard pass by Turner to Hare. NIU led 3714 before the RedHawks added a TD with 27 seconds on the clock.
NIU scored on each of its possessions in the first half until taking a knee on the
final play before the intermission and led 37-21 at the break. Miami pulled within
nine, 37-28, on the first of Hendrix’ three second-half rushing TDS. MU posted
the only score of the third quarter, and could get no closer the rest of the way as
NIU QBs Maddie and Hare each had rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Joel Bouagnon added 85 yards on 10 carries with a 24-yard score
and Cameron Stingily carried 12 times for 64 yards and touchdown runs of one
and three yards.
After a scoreless third quarter, EMU quarterback Reginald Bell ran for four yards
and a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter to give the Eagles a 17-14
lead, their first of the game.
NIU responded immediately behind the running of Hare and Bouagnon. On third
and three from the EMU 24-yard line, Bouagnon bounced off left tackle and cut
down the sideline to put NIU back ahead. After the extra point, NIU led 21-17
with 11:55 to play.
With 6:46 to play, NIU called on Stingily to carry the football and the senior responded with runs of 13, seven and six yards to get NIU to the EMU 36. Bouagnon ran for three yards before Hare escaped on a nifty 32-yard run to the oneyard line. Stingily scored his second rushing TD of the game on the next play.
Tyler Wedel added the point after and with 3:26 to play, NIU led 28-17.
EMU got the ball back and drove to the NIU 13, before a pair of incomplete passes brought up third and-13. The Huskies’ Perez Ford and Michael Santacaterina
combined for NIU’s fourth sack of the day, resulting in an 18-yard loss.
The two teams played to a 14-10 halftime score with EMU hitting a late field goal
following an eight-play, 59-yard drive.
Hare ran for 116 yards in the first quarter alone, but neither team could get any
offensive rhythm in the second or third periods. The Huskies twice advanced into
the red zone but came away without any points as Wedel field goal tries of 24
and 32 yards were blocked.
On its first drive of the third quarter, NIU was stopped on fourth and one from its
own 45, but EMU could not capitalize as NIU safety Dechane Durante intercepted
Bell’s long pass on the flea flicker on the next play.

MUNCIE, Ind. – Cameron Stingily scored three rushing touchdowns and ran for
148 yards, and NIU scored 21 second-half points to surge past Ball State for a 3521 Mid-American Conference West Division victory Wednesday night at Scheumann Stadium. With the win, NIU retained ownership of the Bronze Stalk for the
sixth consecutive season.
Stingily ran for a season-high 148 yards on 26 carries, with 91 yards in the fourth
quarter alone and 117 after halftime. Tyler Wedel’s season-high eight punts included five downed inside the five-yard line.
After the teams played to a 14-14 tie while combining for 11 punts in the first half,
NIU took the lead for good with 3:41 to play in the third quarter. Stingily finished
a 14-play, 71-yard drive with a one-yard stroll into the end zone. NIU was fourfor-four on third down plays on the drive.
Ball State and the Huskies traded punts and Wedel unleashed a 64-yard boot that
pinned BSU on its one-yard line. After advancing to the 15, NIU’s Anthony Brooks
picked off BSU quarterback Jack Milas and returned it 21 yards for a touchdown
and a 28-14 NIU lead.
Ball State got a 30-yard kickoff return to the 46-yard line and embarked on a sixplay, 54-yard touchdown drive. The Cardinals used 2:23 to pull back within seven
points, with Horactio Banks scoring on a four-yard run.
NIU began another run-heavy drive, advancing to the Ball State 22-yard line, but
quarterback Drew Hare lost the ball while being sacked, and Ball State recovered
at their own 44-yard line. After two incompletions, NIU DT Ben Compton intercepted a ball tipped by NIU’s Perez Ford, giving the Huskies the ball on the BSU
45 with 5:02 to play. From there, Stingily took over, rushing for all but one yard
and scoring on a two-yard run with 2:45 left in the game to seal the win.
NIU had a season-high five takeaways with three interceptions and two fumble
recoveries. The NIU defense played one of its best games, holding Ball State to
133 rushing yards on 31 carries and limiting Milas to a 16-of-39 passing night.
The Huskies scored twice in the first 3:10 of the game. NIU took the opening
kickoff and drove 75 yards in eight plays and 2:18 with Aregeros Turner scoring
on a six-yard jet sweep. When Josh Orne’s kickoff was not picked up by Ball State,
NIU’s Jamaal Payton recovered for the Huskies on the BSU 18. Four plays later,
Stingily ran for nine yards and a touchdown on fourth and NIU led 14-0.
Ball State took eight plays and 3:10 to go 65 yards for an answering score. Jahwan
Edwards scored on a one-yard run and BSU pulled to within 14-7 after Scott Secor’s PAT kick. The Cardinals tied the score with 6:27 to go in the half when Milas
found Jordan Williams wide open down the right sideline for a 38-yard score.
