Thanks to the City Workers for the Fabulous
Oktoberfest that they put on for the Seniors
Citywide. Aside from Christmas this is one of
the most expensive "dos" where the costs of
the tickets by no means reflect the actual
costs involved. For our Christmas Dinner
and Dance here in Fleetwood, our Seniors
Committee will again be subsidizing tickets
for members. We will have our usual 50/50
and huge raffle , get your tickets now for the
December 12th date.
Please note both the Volunteer
Appreciation Luncheon and the Annual
General Meeting will be on Tuesday
November 18th, the one following the
other. It is necessary to book in for both
although they are free of course. This will be
a year of transition for us here at Fleetwood
as it has proved to be for several of the
other Senior Groups already. I do hope one
or two of you will be willing to stand for our
little committee. It just entails a friendly
meeting once a month, where grievances
can be aired, new ideas welcomed and you
can be part of the process.

the BC Children’s Hospital. This campaign
offers advice for new parents, and provides
little purple hats to the new babies in order
to bring awareness of the dangers of
shaking a baby. This program started a few
years ago in the U.S., and BC is one of the
Canadian provinces taking part. The hats
that are donated are sent to various
hospitals throughout the province. We are
happy to be able to help and this year we
were able to knit up 205 hats.

Gold’s— Do you love to sing? Our group
meets every Thursday in Room #3 from
10:00am—11:00am to sing a variety of
songs. We are accompanied by the piano.
Throughout the year we sing at seniors
homes. At Christmas we perform in the
lobby of the Fleetwood Community Centre
just before the doors open to the Christmas

you join us, sheet music is provided.
Pumpkin seeds make a terrific snack — just
like peanuts, it's impossible to eat only one!
By The Canadian Living Test Kitchen
Preparation
Cut pumpkin in half. Using large spoon,
remove all seeds to large sieve. Rinse under
cold running water to remove stickiness. Pick
out and discard any stringy pieces.
Spread rinsed seeds in single layer on 2 baking
sheets. Let dry thoroughly, stirring and
separating once or twice. In small bowl,
combine seeds, oil and salt, stirring to coat
well; spread on baking sheets.
Bake in 375°F (190°C) oven, stirring and
spreading seeds on sheets once, for 15 to 20
minutes or until seeds are deep golden brown.
Let cool. Store in airtight container

Computer Club—People have
Fit 55+
described the Computer Club as small and
friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, and
welcoming to newcomers. Started about five
years ago, club meetings usually consist of a
presentation on a computer topic, then
coffee and cookies and questions from the
floor. People sometimes bring a laptop they
need help with, or a technical question they
want to ask President Bob Houghton or
Program Chair Gerri Sombke. You don't have
to be a computer geek to join us, and we
welcome beginners as well as experienced
users. The club has a couple of laptops and a
projector for presentations and lots of
written information from prior year meetings
and we're happy to share what we know.
Come join us on the 3rd Tuesday of each
month at 12:30 in Room 6!
A moderate intensity class consisting of
low impact cardio followed by muscle
conditioning and relaxing stretch
exercises. Improve heart and lung
fitness, balance, strength and flexibility.
