Anyone who has never attended a Baptismal Preparation Program must attend prior to the Baptism. It is recommended that
the parents attend the class before the birth of their child.
The Program is held the 4th Wednesday of January, March, May,
July, September, and the 3rd Wednesday of November at
7:00 p.m. in the Adult Resource Center.
Please contact the parish office to make a reservation.
MARRIAGES must be arranged with one of the priests at
the parish office. Preparation must be at least six months
prior to anticipated date of wedding.
FUNERALS must be arranged through a priest at the parish
office. If a family member dies, who resides outside QAS, please
notify the parish office.

Anyone discerning a religious vocation should contact a
parish priest or the Archdiocesan Office of Vocations at

ANOINTING AND PASTORAL CARE OF SICK:

Sick or a pastoral visit. Also please notify the parish office when
someone is admitted to the hospital. Because hospitals are by law
not permitted to share patient information, the hospitals do not
notify the parish of parishioner patients.

PASTOR’S COLUMN
When the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica (Nov. 9) falls on a Sunday, as it does this year, it
replaces the celebration of the Ordinary Sunday (Thirty
-second Sunday in Ordinary Time) because the basilica
is the episcopal seat of the pope as the bishop of Rome.
The dedication of the basilica took place on Nov. 9,
324 by Pope St. Sylvester I. It is located in Rome on
property then owned by the Laterani family; hence the
title, the Lateran Basilica. Originally dedicated as the
Church of the Most Holy Savior, it was later given an
additional dedication to St. John the Baptist, hence the
present name of St. John Lateran Basilica. The pope
actually lived on the property from the 4th century until
1309 when the papacy was transferred to Avignon
(France) by Clement V during what history calls the
“Babylonian captivity”, a 70 year period of seven
popes when the French controlled the Church. The
papacy returned to Rome in 1378 during the pontificate
of Gregory XI. The present structure was commissioned in 1646 by Innocent X. Beneath the high altar
rests the remains of the small wooden table on which,
according to tradition, St. Peter celebrated Mass. Today’s feast marks the anniversary of the dedication of
the church which is “mother and head of all churches
of Rome and the world”, and serves as the pope’s cathedral (not St. Peter’s Basilica). Most important, today the Church recalls that the Church is the Mystical
Body of Christ. Jesus continues to make himself present through the life of the Church, especially the celebration of the sacred mysteries, the sacraments and the
proclamation of the gospel. St. Paul reminds us today
in his First Letter to the Corinthians: “You are God’s
building. According to the grace of God given to me,
like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building upon it. But each one must be careful
how he builds upon it, for no one can lay a foundation
other than the one that is there, namely, Jesus Christ.”
He continues: “Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If
anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that
person; for the temple of God, which you are, is holy.”
Today, we celebrate the living presence of Jesus in his
Church, and we his living body in the Spirit….. This
afternoon at 2:00 p.m. the Mass of Remembrance for
all who died this past year will be celebrated at Queen
of All Saints. May they rest in peace! ..... Please read

EMERGENCY APPEAL FOR
SCHOOL FURNITURE / FIXTURES / SUPPLIES
AND HVAC SYSTEMS
Queen of All Saints Parish is in need of immediate
cash to cover the replacement of school furniture, ceiling tiles, fixtures, and education supplies, and for repairs to or replacement of HVAC units in the school.
These cash needs are directly related to the mold remediation effort that took place in the school in September. The Finance Council foresees a need for a pledge
from each family payable over the next 6 – 9 months,
this in addition to ordinary monthly or weekly contributions. A special letter was sent to each registered
parishioner home recently containing a donation envelope for “Mold Remediation Appeal”. Donations
may also be made through Faith Direct (enroll at the
parish office or online at Faith Direct; the QAS parish
code is MO86). The estimated expense for remediation repairs in the school and the church hall exceeds
$520,000. The repair or replacement of HVAC systems is unknown at this time. Once it is ascertained, it
will be announced. We appreciate your assistance in
covering these extraordinary expenses which obviously were not known at the time the budget was prepared
for this year.
PLENARY INDULGENCE FOR POOR SOULS
Catholics may gain a plenary indulgence for all temporal
punishment due to sin for anyone who has died by performing the following:
Pray for the souls in purgatory: one Our Father and
one Hail Mary
Recite the Apostles Creed
Receive Holy Communion
Go to confession within 20 days
Pray for the Holy Father’s intention
Have no attachment to sin.
BOOK OF THE DEAD
The Book of the Dead will be in the main
lobby of the church during the entire month
of November. You are welcome to add
names at any time during this month. We
also hope everyone will remember the names that are in
the book in their prayers. The names of the persons you
write in the book do not have to be members of the parish
and it is not limited to someone who passed away this
year. In fact, you can repeat someone’s name from a previous year.

Brothers and sisters in Christ,
By now we should all realize that there is no going back to
the status quo following the tragic shooting of Michael
Brown. Rightly so! The status quo was not good enough.
This tragedy has left a community struggling to cope with
anger and frustration that it had repressed for many years.
Now is our moment of truth. We can let the anger and frustration spill over in violence, and then be repressed again.
Or we can take the opportunity to break the cycle and address the underlying issues that cause the anger and frustration.
But we need to keep in mind the issues here are bigger than
Ferguson. They are as deep as the hold of sin on the human
heart and as broad as the solidarity of the entire human race.
That means we will not be able to fix things quickly. But we
have to move forward. And it is not just Ferguson or the
greater St. Louis metropolitan community, but the entire
country and the whole Church that needs to look at these
issues.
Is it not a sad reality that we integrated professional baseball
and schools a long time ago, but have not integrated everyone’s heart?
The sin of racism in our cities and our nation must be dealt
with, but never with violence. There are small but vocal
groups currently threatening violence. I urge anyone who
feels the desire to violently lash out to first pause and consider the potential consequences of their actions: Will violence make the situation right? Will it right the wrongs? Or
will it only make things worse? The unrelenting desire for
revenge is a position that seeps into our souls and can become contagious carrying with it a commitment to violence.
As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Returning violence for
violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a
night already devoid of stars...Hate cannot drive out hate:
only love can do that.” What’s the solution? For all of us to
be quick to apologize for our own faults, and as quick to
forgive the faults of others as we want them to be in forgiving ours.
We need to come together in prayer and dialogue to address
the deeper underlying issues - family breakdown, racial profiling, quality education, abuses of authority, lack of gainful
employment, fear of one another, mistrust of authority, black
on black violence, and white flight.
In God we are all one family and we need to call upon Christ
the Prince of Peace in prayer to give us the strength to sit
down together as brothers and sisters.
So, let’s ask: what blueprint does God have in mind for us?
And let’s remember that Christ gave us the blueprint: to
love God with all our heart and mind and soul and strength,
and to love our neighbors as ourselves. What that means for
us is that we must respect the dignity of each other. We
show that respect by having a willingness to sit down together and dialogue, by having the humility to admit our mistakes and say we are sorry, and by praying for one another yes, praying! Praying that God fills our hearts with love for
one another, removes the hate we have allowed to fester
there, and teaches us how to express our love in concrete
ways.
It is no longer the time to ask “What would Jesus do?” It is
time to ask “What is Jesus doing?” What Jesus is not doing
is adding violence to violence. Remember what he said to
his disciples in the Gospel of Luke when they asked if they
should call down fire from Heaven to consume a town that
didn’t welcome him? (Lk 9:54). He rebuked them. Jesus is
also not ignoring the problem and hoping it will go away!
What Jesus is doing is pleading with us to listen to each other, respect each other, and help each other.
That’s the same Jesus who said: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Christ calls us
to promote peace, not provoke violence. Our Lord Himself
suffered the most terrible of injustices, because although
incapable of doing wrong, He was nevertheless condemned
to suffer and die on the cross. And when one of his disciples
responded by lashing out in violence he said “Put away your
sword!”
Inspired by the example of Christ, I fervently renew my call
to everyone in Ferguson and the greater St. Louis community: be an instrument of peace amid the chaos! Work for
calm in the turmoil!
If we depart from God’s blueprint, the fruit of our thoughts
and actions will not be peace but its opposite - force and
violence!
It’s time to turn to a different kind of power - persuasion and
service. It is the way of Gandhi and Blessed Teresa of Calcutta. It is the way of the Lord who is filled with love and
mercy. It is the way each of us should be. May the God
who suffered on the Cross fill us with love, and guide our
thoughts and actions.

ADVENT BLANKET MAKING –
HELP ‘WARM UP’ ST. LOUIS
Are you looking for a meaningful way to begin Advent
and get ready for this Christmas season? Before the craziness of shopping, preparations and parties start –
wouldn’t we all like to find a way to prepare our hearts
for the true meaning of Christmas?
Advent blanket-making began two years ago on the first
Sunday of Advent at QAS after hearing about a homeless
man who froze to death on our city’s streets. Since that
time, so far, QAS parishioners have come together and
hand-made over 70 fleece blankets that were then delivered to St. Patrick’s Center to help protect those in need

way. Sunday, November 30, from 2-4 p.m. the QAS
gym will be open to all who would like to participate
in this project. Entire families can work on their blanket
together, mothers and daughters, groups of friends, even
Girl Scout troops. And this is a great service activity for
eighth graders to do with their confirmation sponsors!
You can start looking now for your fleece at any fabric
store. Just purchase two pieces of fleece, 2 yards each,
one in a solid color and the other in a coordinating print
or both in solid colors. Bring the fleece, some good,
sharp scissors, a ruler if you have one, and possibly
something to cushion your knees as this is an on-thefloor project. We will show you a very easy way to make
a warm fleece blanket in about an hour. If you are unable
to come on November 30, you are welcome to make your
blanket on your own and drop it off at the Parish Office
where we will pick it up before delivering downtown – or
contact us to come pick it up from your house. If you
need to know how to make the blankets, please email
Mary at the address below. We will be happy to send the
instructions to you.
Let’s start this Advent season off with warm hearts,
knowing we will be helping others stay warm this winter!

ST. VINCENT DEPAUL SOCIETY
CHRISTMAS SHARING PROGRAM
The St. Vincent DePaul Society is starting
the “Christmas Sharing Program”. This
program is a two-fold program consisting
of the Adopt-A-Family and the Giving
Tree.
This year will be the same personal program as last
year. If you adopt a family you will be purchasing for
a specific family with a wish list provided by the family. The Giving Tree items will also be a specific wish
for a designated recipient.
Family wish lists for the Adopt-A-Family program
will be available in the Church Hall after all the Masses the weekend of October 25 & 26 and every weekend until all families are adopted, but no later than
November 15 & 16. If you need a family wish list
mailed to you or you need more information on the
program, please contact Mercedes Knese at 846-2635

The Giving Tree will be set up in the main lobby of
the Church the weekend of November 22 & 23. At that
time you will be able to take one or more gift tags off
the tree, listing the specific item to purchase for the
designated individual. These tags will range from
clothing and toys to household items or gift cards.
This year all UNWRAPPED gifts for both parts of the
program will be collected in the Church Hall the weekend of December 12, 13 & 14. We will be in the hall
Friday, December 12, from Noon – 7:00 PM; Saturday, December 13, from 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM and
Sunday, December 14, from 7:00 AM – Noon. Members of St. Vincent DePaul Society will deliver all gifts
starting at 1:00 PM.

Come one, come all! There will be cards, dominos or any game you want to play, in the
Church Hall on Wednesday, November 12,
2014, 12:00 noon until 2:30 p.m.
It’s free and cake, coffee and soda will be served. Make it
a Special Day. Bring your spouse, a friend or a shut-in.
The only time cards will be cancelled on the 2nd Wednesday of each month is if there is a Funeral Luncheon in the
Church Hall.

Calling All Seniors ~ Come Join Us At QAS
LIFE TEEN MASS AND LIFE NIGHTS
P.S. Please bring to the November 20 meeting or
send to Adeline Chmielewski the $7.00 for our
Christmas dinner and party at Andre’s which is
scheduled for December 11.
Starting in October, we added another youth Mass to each
month. The FIRST and THIRD Sundays of every month,
we will celebrate Life Teen Mass at Noon. Teens are invited to sit in the first couple of pews with the other teens. All
welcome!
Following the Life Teen Masses, the youth group will meet
for Life Nights (Creative nights on Catholic Teaching, Morality and Current Issues) from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. in the
Church or cafeteria. We will no longer meet immediately
following the noon Mass.
Fun Seekers Offer Fun Times
Thursday Night Prayer Group
An organizational and social meeting to plan for
2015 will be held November 20, 7:00 pm in the
Church Hall. Refreshments will be served.
Every Thursday, the youth group gathers for prayer group
from 7:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. in the Church Hall. Bring a friend!
ADOPTION MASS
Adoration at Queen
The Archdiocesan Respect Life Committee will host a
special Mass in celebration of all those whose lives have
been affected by adoption, whether directly or indirectly.
The annual adoption Mass, with Bishop Rice as celebrant,
will be on Sunday, November 23 at 10:00 am at the Cathedral Basilica. This beautiful Mass is especially for any
foster parents, foster children, adoptive parents/
grandparents, birth parents/grandparents, and persons who
were themselves adopted. Special invitation to parents
who are in the process of adopting. A reception will follow the Mass in Boland Hall. For more information, contact the Respect Life Apostolate, 314-792-7555.

EVERY 3rd Thursday will be Adoration at Queen, a night
of worship music, a short reflection and time in Adoration

St. Patrick's Center - more than ever - needs pre-packaged salads for the Shamrock Club to serve alongside donated casseroles during lunch. QAS has a small devoted number of regular donors but the need is great. Please deposit bags of salad

Staehle Ct. (Grimsley Station to Bluff Farm to Staehle Ct) on
the 1st Wednesday of every month. A volunteer takes them

NEW YEAR’S EVE DANCE CANCELLED
After some discussion we came to the conclusion that the
there was not enough time to plan and implement everything
that was necessary to make this event a success this year.
Thank your for your interest and the positive feedback we
received. We are, however, planning on having a dance
event next year.
This single night collaboration uses the universal
language of music to encourage people to participate. Reflective and traditional songs will compliment selections from Michael's albums “Bring Forth
the Light” and “Always What I Need.”
Catholics can relate to Greg's stories, which weave
scripture through real life experiences. The examples from Greg's book “Where Faith & Real Life
Come Together...” will encourage the audience to
see how God is at work in everyday life. All of this
is highlighted by Greg's compelling witness, a story
of a spiritual awakening from that of a lapsed cradle
Catholic to a passionate Catholic speaker.
The evening will culminate with Michael and Greg
providing an opportunity for all ages to re-focus on
Christ and re-commit themselves to their Catholic
faith. Greg and Michael will encourage people to
enter into their own journey to “Bethlehem” to bring
Christ into this world every day.

Station on Tuesday November 11th from 7:009:00pm. The topic for Theology on Tap is Love Beyond
Borders. We are willing to carpool if you are interested

at 6:30pm for the carpool. Food and drinks can be ordered during the presentation. This is a great opportunity
to meet new people from around the St. Louis area and
