We called it the “A Little Bit of Everything Sale” and with over 25 tables selling everything from garage sale items to crafts to baking, it lived up to its name! Many people put in a lot of time and effort and it paid off. Between the sales from the Valour table (all donated items), the table rentals, and the canteen sales, we raised just under $500.00. That money will be put towards programming at our three sites (Isaac Brock, Clifton, and Orioles). We’d like to say a huge THANK YOU to all the people who rented tables, helped with set-up or take-down, made sandwiches, donated items, or came to the sale to support us. Hopefully we can do it again next year. We bill every 2 weeks for this program. Children must be accompanied by an adult. • • • • • November’s Family Fun Night will be an open gym, held on Friday, November 28th, 2014. That means lots of chances to run off some of that energy by playing floor hockey, badminton, tumbling on mats, hula hooping, or one of many other choices! There will also be board games, arts and crafts and of course cookies and juice for everyone! In December we will be having a visit from “the big guy in red” for our Family Fun Night! He let us know that he will be coming down just to see all of you! We are still working out the date with Santa (he’s a busy guy) so keep checking our website (valourcc.ca) or give us a call closer to December to find out the date! Please call Liz at (204) 775-3869 for more information. Healthy Baby Every Tuesday from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm we offer a Healthy Baby program for prenatal and postnatal parents with children under the age of one. This program is free and requires no registration. It is held at the Isaac Brock Site at 715 Telfer St. N. It is a great way to meet new parents and to get out of the house for a couple of hours. On site we have a Public Health Nurse and a Dietician available to answer any questions you may have regarding yourself or your baby. You can weigh your baby every Tuesday if you like and keep track. We offer milk coupons to pre- and post-natal moms with babies under the age of six months and bus tickets to those who need to get to and from group. We learn nursery rhymes so that you can sing them to your baby. We also provide a healthy snack at group, and we ask that no outside food be brought as we could have allergies among the group. It is informal, fun and very informative as we have different topics every week. We provide child care for children who are over the age of one. Of course partners are very welcome to attend as well. For more information please call Liz at (204) 775-3869. Child Care Before- and After-School Program There is currently a waiting list for the Before- and AfterSchool Program. Please call (204) 775-3869 to put your name on the waiting list. $5.50/before school $5.50/after school $16.00/in-service or holiday $10.00/half day $10.00/nursery or kindergarten This program runs through the school year as well as the Christmas and summer holidays. Children must be toilet trained. We are open from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. A staff member will take the children to Isaac Brock School in the morning, as well as pick up the nursery/kindergarten kids at 11:30 am. Children in grade 1 or higher walk across the field to the centre on their own at lunch and after school. A staff also returns with the children to school at 1:00pm. At 3:30 pm we pick up the nursery/kindergarten children. While at the centre, your child will be given the opportunity to socialize with other children. We have a large gym, as well as many new, age-appropriate toys. Art supplies are also readily available for little artists! Over the school breaks we plan special activities or field trips. Please feel free to send an extra healthy snack or two in your child’s lunch if he/ she will be with us during the day; they use up a lot of energy in the gym! Please DO NOT send seafood, fish, or nut products as we have LIFE-THREATENING allergies. If you would like further information, please call 775-3869. To register your child, simply come down and fill out a form. Lunch Program We offer a lunch program at our Isaac Brock site that runs from September-June. The cost is $2.00/day and children bring their lunches. You will be billed monthly for this program. Usually bills are sent home with your child. A staff member picks up the nursery/kindergarten children at 11:30 am and brings them to the program. We also take the nursery/kindergarten children to school for 1:00 pm. If your child arrives by bus, a staff member can meet the bus; just let us know when and where the bus stops. Children in grade 1 or older walk across the field to the centre on their own. If you let your child’s teacher know they are in the lunch program, the teacher will usually try to send him/her with the other children going there. Although there is not time to actually cook food, we are happy to heat up your child’s lunch should you want them to eat a hot meal. Items that do not work well for lunch would be Mr. Noodles, instant noodles, Michelina’s frozen dinners, or anything that takes a long time to make. The 3 VALOUR COMMUNITY CENTRE children have a very limited time to eat their lunch so a quick heat-up is appreciated. Some suggestions for tasty, healthy lunches would be • sandwiches on whole wheat bread (meat, cheese, etc...) • pita bread with various fillings (hummous, veggies, cream cheese, cheese, etc...) • cut-up veggies or fruit with or without dip • cheese and crackers, cut-up pickles, cut-up meat • yoghurt with or without fruit • soup NO SEAFOOD, FISH OR NUT PRODUCTS To register your child, come down to our Isaac Brock Site and fill out a form. For further information please call (204) 775-3869. Volunteer Opportunities The mini-soccer program is currently seeking volunteers to act as Convenor, and as coaches! Please contact (204) 775-5728, or e-mail [email protected] if you are interested! We are always looking for extra help for our Family Fun Nights.
