Prison Ministry
The Office of Prison Ministry of the Diocese of Camden functions as a reflection of the
Church’s Social Justice teaching, particularly as it applies to the Criminal Justice System.
The principal approach of the Office’s activities is the utilization of the principles of Restorative (as opposed to Retributive) Justice. (See Responsibility, Rehabitation, and Restoration: A Catholic Perspective on Crime and Criminal Justice - USCCB, 2000.)
The Office serves as a resource for the parishes of the Diocese of Camden, providing support, assistance and information for clergy, deacons and the laity who volunteer in the correctional institutions located within the Diocese.

Welcome to
Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish!
We are pleased to have you share in this celebration of
the Eucharist. If you do not have a parish home we invite you
to become part of our parish family and become fully involved
in our life of prayer, education, service and community.
Registration: We invite all parishioners to register with the
Parish. Registration helps us to serve you when issuing letters in connection with sponsorship of Baptism, Confirmation
or Matrimony, and also for letters of reference. Kindly notify
the rectory if your address changes.
Marriage: Couples contemplating marriage in the parish
must contact the parish office to meet with a priest to begin
the marriage preparation process. This is the first step in
planning their wedding which needs to be done one year before the date of the wedding.
Baptisms: celebrated every second and fourth weekends
of the month at 12:30 PM in St. John’s Church. We also encourage parents to have their children baptized during the
11 AM Mass on Sunday. Contact the Parish Office at least
two weeks before the desired date of Baptism to make
arrangements. Parents are required to attend a preparation
Class before the Baptism. Classes are on the last Thursday
of every other month at 7:00 PM in the McLaughlin Hall.
Anointing of the Sick: In case of serious illness or advanced age please call the priests. For hospital cases, contact the hospital Chaplain. Notify the office as well so a priest
may visit.
Pastoral Care: Please call the parish office to have
Communion brought to an ill or homebound family member.

Thirty-third Sunday
in Ordinary Time
Prv 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-31;
Ps 128:1-2, 3, 4-5; 1 Thes 5:1-6;
Mt 25:14-30 or 25:14-15, 19-20
The Book of Proverbs is a collection of wise advice that was used
for instruction in ancient Israel. Traditionally attributed to Solomon because of his reputation for great wisdom, many of these sayings were originally intended
for young men. Their inclusion in the biblical text
gives them a wider audience: all people are called to
seek and embrace the way of the wise. In today’s reading we hear of the value of “a worthy wife”; this text is
sometimes read at funerals as a tribute to a woman
whose value is “far beyond pearls”. The text reminds
us of the importance of associating with good people in
our lives.
Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians reminds us that
there is more to life than this world. As Christians we
anticipate “the day of the Lord”. As believers we are
“children of the light,” and so we are called to live
lives worthy of our status as God’s children; we are
called to “stay alert and sober”, not becoming distracted by unimportant things or falling into darkness. The
apostle calls us to “encourage one another” in our common faith.
In the parable of the talents, Jesus calls us to make
good use of what we have been given. The talents given to each of the servants represent a great amount of
money. One talent was equivalent to approximately
6,000 days’ wages. Each servant was given a different
amount, “according to his ability”. The parable focuses on what each one did with the talents received. The
master accuses the third servant of laziness. The third
servant knew his master was demanding, but he didn’t
even put the money to work in what we would call a
conservative financial plan - “in the bank” to accrue
interest; he merely buried the talent in the ground.
Like him, we are called to make good use of what has
been entrusted to us, for one day we will be called to
give an accounting for our actions.
For reflection: What is my belief about the “day of
the Lord”? How can I prepare for it?

pantry attempts to provide clients with main meal items
which are not always available through other sources.
We urgently need donations of chunky soups, stews,
canned meat and fish, pasta and sauce, peanut butter
and jelly, crackers, cereal and other main meal items.
We are unable to accept expired items, meal supplements such as Boost or items that have been previously opened. Thank you for your continued support!

"..when you write home be sure to tell your families
the pope has been to see you...".

FAITH FORMATION
RCIA
If you have been thinking about becoming a
Catholic, or receiving Confirmation and First
Communion, maybe it’s time to think about
RCIA, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
RCIA is for those who have never been baptized,
those who have been baptized in another Christian denomination, and those who need to complete their sacraments. Participants meet weekly
with a group of other Catholics. The sessions
include praying and sharing about scripture stories, presentations about various aspects of our
faith and tradition, and lively discussions. It is a
wonderful way to deepen one’s faith. If you
would like to learn more about the process,
please call Pat Lipperini at 858-0298.

classrooms throughout our school. This will provide
interactive learning. We are very excited with this
enhancement in technology. Our goal is to have one in
every classroom throughout the school.
x
New to our school is Mrs. Megan Newman, our on-site
school counselor. Mr s. Newman has been doing a
wonderful job in developing class lessons, as well as,
counseling students on an as need basis or in the
case of an emergency.
x We welcome Mrs. Carolyn Marley, to our staff as a
long term substitute in grade 5. Mrs. Megan Galiczynski, is
out on maternity leave at home with her newborn, “Jack.”
Mrs. Marley comes highly recommended, has the
necessary credentials and had substituted in many schools in
the diocese, including long term substituting.
x Professional Development is at the for efr ont of all
in-service programs this year. The latest in-service topic was
the development of unit plans. All teachers will be preparing
unit plans as well as traditional lesson plans for the 20152016 school year. Teachers in Grades 3, 4 & 5 have been
taking a masters level course from PENN on the same topic.
They will form communities with all other teachers to
enhance this concept. The purpose is to provide our students
with 21st century teaching and assessment strategies. Unit
planning provides for typical lessons using Blooms
Taxonomy which progresses to higher levels. Lessons are
progressive leading to extending and refining knowledge.
All unit plans will include a regular assessment followed by
a performance assessment after an extended lesson.

Diocesan & Community News
St. Frances Xavier Cabrini,
Patroness of Immigrants
The first citizen of the United
States to be canonized, Mother
Cabrini was born in a small northern
Italy village on July 15, 1850 to a farming family. She was born prematurely
and was small and weak most of her
life. When she came of age Cabrini applied to several religious orders, but was refused because of her frail health.
She became a schoolteacher and devoted herself to works
of charity and serving the poor.
In 1874 she was asked by her diocese to take over the
direction of a girls’ orphanage in Italy. Through her efforts
and successes here, she came to found her own order, the
Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1880.
The institute established seven homes and a free school
and nursery in its first five years.
In 1877, Cabrini traveled to Rome to ask permission
from the Pope to establish a mission in China. Instead, he
suggested to her that she go to the United States to help
the Italian immigrants who were flooding into the nation,
mostly in great poverty. “Not to the East, but to the West”
was his advice. Giving up her dreams of an Asian mission,
Cabrini traveled to the US to help the Italian immigrants
facing grave hardships. They worked menial labor and
were heavily discriminated against. Many were persecuted
for their Catholicism.
Upon arrival to the United States, the Bishop suggested
she return home. Struggling through poor living conditions
of her own, Cabrini and the Missionary Sisters persevered.
They founded orphanages, schools, and hospitals. She
founded 67 institutions, primarily to aid Italian immigrants
throughout the country as well as countries throughout
South America and Europe. Mother Cabrini died of dysentery at age 67 in Chicago on December 22, 1917 while preparing Christmas candy for the local children. She was
canonized in 1946 and named patron saint of immigrants in
honor of her tireless work with the Italian population. The
Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart continue to promote
justice and provide education all over the world. Her national shrine is located in Chicago, with others in Manhattan
and Golden, Colorado. There are several Cabrinian educational institutions throughout the US, including Cabrini College near Philadelphia in Radnor, PA and Mother Cabrini
High School in New Orleans. Mother Cabrini’s feast day
is November 13.
“The world is too small to limit ourselves to one point; I
want to embrace it entirely and to reach all its parts.”
