Dear Parishioners,
As we embark on a new year of ministry, our campus renewals near completion. Nearly 35% of the school roof has
been replaced. Kalwall windows and decorative limestone clad the Gym’s western and eastern walls replacing dangerously deteriorating glass block windows. The Monsignor Flanagan Hall is painted a light lime green and boasts a
new shiny white tile floor. The parish offices have been relocated in the Fr. May Ministry Center providing safe,
convenient and handicapped access for all who come daily to obtain Mass intentions and spiritual guidance.
With all these newly refreshed spaces, which provide a safe and secure environment for all, it’s good to give thanks
for the blessings that we have received. It’s good to reflect on what we have become, and what we are becoming!
We are more welcoming, more efficient and more prayerful. We’re a people that will open our hearts and our facilities to young children, charities and ministries from across the city of Chicago. Yes, we believe in stewardship—
giving of our time, talent and treasure to advance the mission and ministry of Christ.
And so, with our renewed buildings comes a sense of renewed vigor to live the Catholic Faith in our parish and our
day to day lives because we realize that everything in life is a gift. A gift from God!
Recently, we published the Parish Annual Report. I hope you took time to review our many accomplishments and
some of our hopes for the future. The report indicates the vibrancy of our parish community of which I have no
doubt you have greatly contributed towards.
The report also points out our Sunday and Holyday Offering is below budget due mainly to the severe winter, our
aging parishioners on fixed incomes and the many deaths of our long time and faithful parishioners over the past
several years. We need to encourage all new arrivals to register to the parish and that everyone continue to reflect
on their level of giving. Please be generous!
Over the last few years we have encouraged people to contribute via GiveCentral which reduces printing and mailing costs. Please go to our website.
Thank you once again for your support.
Sincerely in Christ,
Father Mike Meany

PERPETUAL
EUCHARISTIC
ADORATION
Christ's followers were
skeptical when He preached
the reality of His Body and
Blood as food and drink. St.
John said, "many of His disciples withdrew and no longer
went about with Him."
Seeing this, Jesus asked the Twelve, "Do
you also want to leave me?" Simon Peter did
not understand any more than those who left
Christ, but his loyalty was more firm. "Lord,"
he said, "to whom shall we go? You have
the words of eternal life."
We have the "Word of Eternal Life"
right here with us day and night in our
Adoration Chapel. Do you have something
you want to ask Him? There are several
hours needing adorers. Please pick one for
your personal hour with Him.

BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY
There are between 150 and 200 funerals celebrated at St. John Brebeuf each year. Today, we wish to begin in
earnest a BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY which will serve the parish. We ask that YOU consider how you might serve
in this ministry to each other and to the families of those who have died.
Imagine yourself assisting the family, leading them in prayer, helping them make choices for the funeral Mass,
offering follow- up with the family afterwards. You will be trained and given bereavement resources. Our goal is to
create a team of ministers who will support each other and rotate on a schedule as funerals are made known to the
parish. This ministry will permit you to be attentive to the family, hear them in their need, and strengthen their hope.
Call the Parish Office to leave your name and phone number. We pray that volunteers will come forward to serve
in this new ministry at SJB.
The following book, 2015 “Workbook for Lectors” is now available in the
usher’s room through Sunday, November 23rd. Any workbooks not picked
up by the 23rd will be available for pickup at the parish office.

38 Shopping Days to Go
Did you count them – that is the number of shopping days until Christmas. This means that the men
and women of the St. Vincent DePaul Society will be at the doors of the Church the next two weekends,
November 22-23 and November 29-30, with the St. John Brebeuf Christmas Gift-Sharing Program gift
suggestion forms. Many families from the past years know that “Santa’s Workshop” is at St. John Brebeuf
and not at the North Pole.
ALL GIFTS ARE TO BE RETURNED TO THE CHURCH THE WEEKENDS OF DECEMBER 6-7 AND DECEMBER 13-14. If you have any questions regarding the Christmas Gift-Sharing Program, please ask a member of the
St. Vincent de Paul Society or call the Parish Office.
The Society wishes to say Thank You for the past 42 years that our parish has participated in this great project. For
many individuals your Christmas present is the only one they receive – so, please NEW items only.

November 16—Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time:
The good news of today’s Gospel is the extravagance of what is being given us. All we need do is
be faithful in “small matters.” The cost of fidelity has no comparison to the reward given.
When you give the furniture, household items and clothing you no longer use to the Society
of St. Vincent de Paul, you are sharing God’s extravagant love.

Drodzy Parafianie,
Prawie 35%
dachu szkoły zostało wymienione. Okna Kalwall i dekoracyjny wapień okrywa zachodnią i wschodnią ścianę
Sali gimnastycznej, zastępując niebezpiecznie pogarszający się szklany blok okien. Hol Monsignor Flanagan
przeniesione do Centrum Parafialnego Ks.May, dostarczając bezpiecznego, udogodnionego i przystosowanego
Jesteśmy bardziej otwarci, bardziej wydajni i bardziej rozmodleni. Jesteśmy ludźmi, którzy otworzą swoje
serca i obiekty dla dzieci, organizacji charytatywnych i duszpasterstw z całej Archidiecezji Chicago. Tak,
wierzymy w dobroczynność – dawanie swojego czasu, talentów i darów, aby postępować w służbie Chrystusa.
naszej parafii, do której tworzenia macie wielki wkład.
ostatnich latach. Musimy zachęcić nowo przybyłych, aby zapisywali się do parafii i do zastanowienia się nad
swoimi możliwościami donacji na tacę. Proszę bądźcie hojni!
Na przestrzeni ostatnich kilku lat, zachęcaliśmy ludzi do wsparcia używając Give Central, który redukuje
koszty drukowania i przesyłki. Proszę, zobaczcie naszą stronę internetową.
Jeszcze raz dziękuję za Wasze wsparcie.
Szczęść Boże,
Ks. Mike Meany
