The low student to teacher ratio creates a supportive environment and the programme includes plenty of fun, challenging outdoor activities to build confidence and break down social barriers. There are two options of study with this Youth Guarantee programme: Students on the New Zealand Certificate in Professional Cookery Level 3 learn to prepare, cook and present a full range of basic dishes. Your alternative option is the Certificate in Maritime and Fishing Technology Level 3. Learn great skills in seafood processing, vessel operations, navigation and heaps more – then go on to further study or join the ranks of Polytech graduates who go on to earn top dollar as commercial fishermen at sea! These Youth Guarantee programmes are flexible enough to fit in around any seasonal horticultural jobs you may already be doing. If you’re aged 16 to 19 this free Youth Guarantee programme will help give you a new direction. Transport is provided and there are absolutely no course fees or equipment costs. All you need to do is take the first step! With the choice of two career options, you could soon be on your way to a new career in hospitality or the maritime industry – and if you don’t want to learn we’ll try and figure out why. These programmes have a blend of off campus and on-campus learning with an emphasis on personal development, future goals and study tools. www.boppoly.ac.nz Career Opportunities The Youth Guarantee programme is designed to develop the whole person – their social, academic and employability skills. We offer a supported space to help young people figure out what they are good at, to think about their future and plan what they need to do to get there. This course provides numeracy and literacy credits towards NCEA Level 2. This helps students get the qualifications they need to move on to higher tertiary study. This qualification prepares our students for entry-level roles in the hospitality or maritime industries but also opens their eyes to a range of other tertiary study options. An important benefit of this Youth Guarantee programme is that students get used to tertiary level study and campus life, which helps them transition more smoothly into further courses of their choice.
