Westchester is revisited by
Berkeley, California’s, and
the Grateful Dead’s legendary bassist, Phil Lesh and
his ever revolving lineup of
Friends.
The Capitol Theatre in
Port Chester, NY is proud to
announce Phil Lesh, founding bassist for the Grateful
Dead, is back on the bus and
returns to The Capitol
Theatre
beginning
Halloween night for an electrifying five weekend run
through November 29th.
Please call or visit their website at www.thecapitoltheatre.com for tickets and info.
This incarnation of Phil
and his Friend’s includes the
following line-up:
• October 28th-30th, Wilco’s
guitarist, Nels Cline.
• October 31st-Nov 1st; Joe
Russo, Dan Lebowitz, Rob
Barraco, and John Kadlecik.
Special guest, Scott Law, following his own sold out performances at the Capitol
Theatre.
• November 7th-8th: Chris
Robinson Brotherhood featuring Chris Robinson, Neal
Casal, Adam MacDougall,
Eric Krasno, and Joe Russo.
• November 14th-15th: Larry
Campbell, Teresa Williams,
John Kadlecik, Jeff Chimenti,
and Joe Russo.
• November 21st-22nd: John
Kadlecik, Keller Williams, Joe
Russo, and Jason Crosby.
•
November
28th-29th:
Anders
Osborne,
Marco
Benevento, Stu Allen, Joe
Russo, and other special
guests to be announced.
Inducted into the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame as a
member of the Grateful
Dead in 1994, Phil Lesh
began his music endeavors
while in high school as a violinist for a short while before
switching over to the trumpet. He originally developed
musical skills in the classical
and free jazz genres.
In the fall of 1964, when
he met Jerry Garcia, while
never having played bass guitar, he was convinced into
becoming the bass guitarist
for Garcia’s then band called
the Warlocks.
During the San Francisco,
psychedelic-era of the 1960s,
Lesh’s unique sound became
quite innovative in the new
era of electric bass. Using the
classical contrapuntal skills of
J.S. Bach, mixed the usual
characteristics of the bass by
keeping time and providing
the music’s underpinning, he
took liberties in his own soloing techniques that were
common to the then present
era of psychedelic music.
Some of Lesh’s contributions to the Grateful Dead
included:
“New
Potato
Caboose”, “Box of Rain”,
“Unbroken Chain”, and
“Pride of Cucamonga.” His
unusual and experimental
interest in music became a
serious influence on the
Dead.
Following his departure
from the Grateful Dead in
1995, he formed Phil Lesh
and Friends in 1998 and continued to play bass in other
musical after creations of the
Grateful Dead such as, The
Other Ones and The Dead.
In 2005, Lesh became the
only Grateful Dead band
member to publish a book
entitled, Searching for the
Sound: My Life with the
Grateful Dead.
Lesh went back on tour in
2009 with the remaining
members of the Grateful
Dead which was called the
Reunion Tour. Following the

After having announced a
hiatus from Furthur in 2014,
Lesh continues to tour with
his own musical incantations
of Phil Lesh and Friends,
gathering many musicians
since his 1995 departure
from the Grateful Dead.
In addition to his musical
talents, Phil, and his wife Jill,
administrate the charitable
organization, the Unbroken
Chain Foundation.
Their two sons, Grahame
and Brian, have just as much
dedication to the world of
music as their father and perform with their father as the
house band, The Terrapin
Family Band, at Lesh’s own
musical Venue, Terrapin
Crossroads located in San
Rafael, California.
In March of 2011, Lesh
stated on the Further.net
website, that he planned to
open a music venue with a
revolving lineup of performers featuring Phil Lesh and
Friends in what is known as
the “west coast rambles.”
While giving regard to his
comments, Lesh stated he
based his idea on the east
coast rambles of Levon Helm
held in upstate Woodstock,
NY and he wanted to successfully recreate the same
kind of historic venue for the
west coast.
Phil has been healthy and
on tour the past three years,
and even filled in for Bob
Weir and RatDog at the
Gathering of The Vibes
Concert in Connecticut this
past summer when Bob Weir
had to cancel the remainder
of his summer 2014 tour due
to health reasons.
Phil Lesh & Friends have
opened doors to many
unique collaborations and

ARLO GUTHRIE PERFORMING
AT RIDGEFIELD PLAYHOUSE
ROB ROY RETURNS TO 12 GRAPES
A member of folk royalty who
made “Alice’s Restaurant” and “City of
New Orleans” and “The Motorcycle”
household tunes, Arlo Guthrie is coming back to The Ridgefield Playhouse
on Saturday, November 15, 8 p.m.
As a folk music icon, Guthrie shares
timeless stories and unforgettable classic songs as he carries on the Guthrie
family legacy. With his singular voice as
both a singer-songwriter and social
commentator, he has maintained a
dedicated fan base that spans the
globe! This event is part of the Doyle
Coffin Architecture Singer/Songwriter
Series.
It has been said that Arlo, the son
of America’s beloved singer/philosopher Woody Guthrie and professional
dancer Marjorie Mazia Guthrie, was
born with a guitar in one hand and a
harmonica in the other. In 1961 at the
age of 13, Arlo Guthrie performed for
the first time and became involved in
the music that was shaping the world.
As a singer, songwriter and political
activist, he continues the legacy his
father Woody began.
In his mega hit “Alice’s Restaurant
Massacree,” a talking blues song that
lasts 18 minutes and 34 seconds in its
original recorded version, Guthrie protests the Vietnam War through bitingly
satirical lyrics. “Alice’s Restaurant”
became a symbol of the late 1960s and
was broadly played on college cam-

of Rob Roy, a band that will intoxicate
you with their unique blend of Bluesinfused Rock.

puses and counter-culture radio stations. His memorable appearance at
the infamous 1969 Woodstock was
documented in the Michael Wadleigh
film Woodstock.
In addition to playing guitar, piano
and harmonica, he plays a dozen other
instruments. He has created a program
of symphonic arrangements of his own
songs and other American classics in a
compilation entitled “An American
Scrapbook.”
For tickets ($65), call or visit the
box office at The Ridgefield Playhouse,

Rob and Mishti are each bandleaders in their own right, and Rob
Roy is their first collaboration. These
two highly regarded musicians have
come together to “create a groove
and funk that’s like no other.” Rob
Wallis performs with many of the
Hudson Valley’s finest musicians, and
is head of “Drummers Collective
School of Music” in New York City.
Rob is the creator of Drum GuruTM, a
downloadable app that features
“real, pro drummers teaching you
their signature grooves, licks and
fills!”
Mishti’s guitar work has been
described as “Jeff Buckley meets
Slash with a pop sensibility.” Her
voice is another story altogether.
Wallis says, “Mishti is an artist
able to put her signature on tunes
ranging from Marvin Gaye to Classic
Blues to Madonna, and have them
sound like… Mishti. In addition, she is
an accomplished songwriter.”
Rounding out this all-star band is
Candullo and Nolan, an absolute killer
rhythm section. Anthony Candullo is
considered one of the top bass players
in the tri-state, and Alex Nolan is currently in the house band for the new
Meredith Vieira Show on NBC, lead by
Everett Bradley of Bruce Springsteen’s
E Street Band.
Rob Roy is a band you will NOT
want to miss. They are a tight, engaging group that performs danceable
grooves from Michael Jackson to Pearl
Jam and everything in between, plus
some of Mishti’s original music. They
will be performing at 12 Grapes on
Saturday, November 15 from 9:30 pm
to 12:30 am. There is a $10 Entertainment Fee or $5 with dinner.

UPSTATE BEGINS WEEKLY RESIDENCY
AT THE FALCON IN MARLBORO, NY
Upstate, featuring Rebecca Martin
(voice/guitar), Guillermo Klein (voice/
piano), Larry Grenadier (bass) and R.J.
Miller (drums) will begin a weekly residency at The Falcon in Marlboro NY on
Monday, November 17th, and remain
through Monday, December 22nd.
“It was on my bucket list to work
with Guillermo” Rebecca Martin confides. “For a decade, I was just waiting
for the right project.”
Early in 2014, the award-winning
Singer/Songwriter Rebecca Martin and
acclaimed composer Guillermo Klein
started their journey together.
“Rebecca’s voice, her tone and the
way it feels — beautify present on
every project of hers that I heard.” Guillermo Klein says. “When she reached
out on her idea of a collaboration, I
couldn’t have been happier.”
“I would send him my songs and
he’d send me his, as well. Eventually, I
just started writing lyrics to his music. I
was completely taken by his new work,
which came as no surprise. In Jazz, singers tend to stick to the “American
Songbook” or write their own material.
It occurred to me that it would be
important to make the songs of mod-
ern composers accessible to singers.
Guillermo’s music is ripe for that.”
Both musicians — Martin, originally
from Maine and Klein, from Argentina
— now live in the Hudson Valley. The
two have called their collaboration
Upstate. The project includes world
renowned bassist Larry Grenadier,
joined by drummer R.J. Miller.
“Now with at least a dozen compositions, we are really looking forward
to playing and developing the music
live in preparation for a recording in
2015.” Martin says. “Our drummer Jeff
Ballard currently lives in Europe, but
will meet up with us in in 2015 for the
recording.”
Throughout this residency, UPSTATE
will welcome a weekly guests to perform their music. Guests will include
Lee Falco 11/17 (drums/percussion), Sara
Serpa 11/24 (Vocals), Diego Urbano 12/
01 (Vibraphone), Chris Cheek and Mark
Turner 12/15 and 12/22 (Saxophones).
On Monday 12/08, Guillermo Klein
will also host a Special Workshop Concert.

ALLMAN BROTHERS TRIBUTE
COMING TO 12 GRAPES
For their 5th Annual post-Thanksgiving Show on Saturday, November 29th, 12
Grapes in Peekskill presents The Brothers
of the Road Band. The BOTR Band is an
Allman Brothers tribute band performing
“flawless renditions” of The Allman
Brothers, with songs like “Revival”,
“Hoochie Coochie Man”, “Tied to the
Whipping Post”, “Hot Lanta”, “Midnight
Rider”, “Rambling Man,” and on and on.
Steve Fernandez, founder of The
BOTR Band, says, “I heard Dickey Betts
with the Allman Brothers in 1973, bought
a Gibson Les Paul and never stopped playing.” With the dual lead guitars of Steve
Fernandez and Ray Wylock, Chris Pagano
on drums (and who studied with Yonrico
Scott), along with Todd Brennan on lead
vocals, Rob Biggers on keys, Peter Conn
on percussion and Ric Lu Bell on bass, this
band has gained the reputation as “the
most authentic Allman Brothers tribute
bands you’ll ever hear.”
Grammy winner Yonrico Scott (of The
Derek Trucks Band) boasts, “When they
play their tunes, the Allman Brothers
would be proud.” This is an amazing
array of talent on one stage, and they’re
all dedicated to keeping true to the originals while interjecting their own unique
styles as musicians.
The Allman Brothers Band has rocked
audiences around the world with its
unique, Macon Georgia brand of Jazzand Rock-infused Blues.
In the process, the Allmans started
one of the most enduring traditions in
American Blues, Jazz, Soul and Rock music
with their jam-band style. The Brothers of
the Road Band closely follows that tradition by using detailed arrangements
from live recordings, then mixing in virtual note-for-note versions of familiar
solos while allowing for improvisation
and the freedom to jam. Their live performances include a liquid-light show that
make their gigs an experience that an
ABB fan might get at NYC’s Beacon Theatre.
There is a $10 cover for this show, or
$5 with the purchase of a dinner entrée.
Dinner reservations are highly recommended.

MORE DINING:
CREATED WITH LOVE BOUTIQUE
“PAYS IT FORWARD” IN STYLE
BY
DUNNE’S PUB, WHITE PLAINS
BY
The evening started innocently
enough. Regulars began to
gather at Dunne’s Pub on
Shapham Place in White Plains
early, taking their seats at the
bar for their first taste of happy
hour, hungry patrons filing in to
be seated in the cozy dining
room. It was the Wednesday
evening, and at Dunne’s the
reveling was about to begin.
DUNNE’S PUB, WHITE PLAINS
Dunne’s Restaurant & Pub is a
neighborhood treasure, an
authentic Irish tavern with all the
traditional Gaelic accoutrements
intact. Over the years owner
Sean Dunne has taken great
strains not to get caught up in
the modernist mode so prevalent
these days. It is a friendly,
authentic home style place with
a good kitchen to boot, dishing
out generous servings or Irishstyle fare at prices that will leave
some money in your wallet. Sean
and his crew also know how to
pour that mug of Guinness while
keeping the crowd in spirited
conversation.
But it was Wednesday here,
and the buzz about the Irish
“Seisiun” (sort of an Irish musical
jam open to all comers), was the
draw this night as it has been for
the past 15 years. It is
orchestrated each week by
award winning musician Brian
Conway and it begins promptly
at 7:30 p.m. It was a revelation
to this non-Irishman; an
experience that I look forward to
returning to and bring guests
along for the ride. It is like
taking a trip to Ireland without
leaving White Plains and I
recommend a cheery dose of it
to all.
It goes along with such spot-on
kitchen specialties as their
fabulous Corned Beef Reuben
MORRIS GUT
Sandwich, Plain Jane Burger
served on a Kaiser roll, Beer
Battered Fish & Chips, Grilled
Irish Bangers, Gaelic Steak with
an Irish whiskey cream sauce
mushrooms and fresh tomatoes,
Cheddar Cheese Meatloaf served
with Irish beans and mashed
potatoes, even a house version
of the Italian favorite Chicken
Scarpariello. Daily blackboard
specials augment the regular
menu.
Special Hint: If you crave
Oktoberfest specialties yearround, Sean Dunne tells us he
serves an Oktoberfest menu the
first Thursday of each month.
And on Sundays, there’s a
traditional Irish breakfast served
all day.

beautifully renovated Dublin

TODD RUNDGREN COMES TO THE PARAMOUNT
Iconic artist, writer/producer, music technologist and sideman in Ringo’s band,
Todd Rundgren pulls in to Peekskill for
“An Unpredictable Evening with...” on Friday night November 7th at the Paramount
Hudson Valley Theater.
Rundgren shows are historically eclectic,
but from the feedback of critics and fans,
always satisfying. His catalogue of hits is
truly impressive, but even a list of his song
titles may not conjur up his melodies.
However, a little clicking on iTunes will do
the trick and cause one to realize, “Hey, I
love that song.” After the sixth or seventh
sample, amazement sets in. The Paramount show is part of an East Coast swing
that will take the artist to Long Island,
New York City, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania before he heads west.
From his 1972 gold solo double
album Something/Anything? featuring
the single “Hello, It’s Me” (still in heavy
rotation on classic rock radio) to his latest
album State, Rundgren has written,
recorded and produced music as both a
solo artist and as leader of several bands.
He’s also served as producer and engineer
on a wide variety of historic works by
other groups including Grand Funk Railroad, Meat Loaf, The Band, as well
as Badfinger, just to name a few.
The Philadelphia native started out as
front man for garage band The Nazz,
which gained notoriety on the back of
Rundgren written songs. They released
three albums heavily influenced by the
Brit rock of the day, Beach Boys style harmonies and the songwriting of Laura
Nyro, with whom Rundgren admits an
infatuation.
Photo: Dino Perrucci
Even though he had been focused on a
career as a producer, in 1970 he formed
the band Runt with Soupy Sales’ sons,
Tony and Hunt Sales (who were in a short
lived band called Tony and the Tigers
that went on to play with Iggy Pop and
David Bowie). After Runt, Rundgren went
solo, experimenting with synthesizers
and other electronic effects available at
the time. His backing musicians included
horn players, Michael and Randy
Brecker, guitarist Rick Derringer and others, who afterwards joined the original lineup of Rundgren’s best known
and most important band, Utopia.
Dissatisfied with the sound of Runt’s
recordings, Rundgren became a studio virtuoso and is also credited as a pioneer of
rock video, interactive CD, and web-based
music.
In 1972, he took over production of
Badfinger’s Straight Up LP from George
Harrison who exited to work on his Bangladesh concerts. Rundgren engineered The
Band’s Stage Fright album, produced
records by the Hello People, James Cotton,
and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. In
1973, he produced the New York Dolls’
debut LP and Grand Funk Railroad’s
“We’re an American Band.” Utopia may
have put Rundgren in the spotlight, but
he would continue to produce tremendously successful albums like Meat Loaf’s
huge Bat Out of Hell for years to come.
Throughout the ’80s, Rundgren focused
on music technology as well as his career
as a writer, performer and producer, and
the early ‘80s were an especially busy time
for him. During that period, he released
“Time Heals,” the first music video to
combine computer graphics and live
action and it would become the second
video ever played on MTV. In 1986, he was
hired to produce the cult British pop band
XTC and the resulting album Skylarking
revitalized the band’s career, and burnished Rundgren’s career as a producer.
By the ‘90s, the Internet became his
main focus. He founded PatroNet, an electronic device that let users subscribe to
music offered directly from his website
without a record company as middleman.
At this time, he continued to work on new
music and started his autobiography,
which has yet to be published. Later that
decade he returned to touring, both as a
solo performer and as part of Ringo Starr’s
All-Starr Band. He also continued to produce.
In the early 2000s, Rundgren began
working on various archival projects
including The King Biscuit Flower Hour
Presents in Concert and a series of Japanese-only rarity sets with outtakes, demos,
and full concerts featuring Rundgren as a
solo act, in Utopia, tracks by The Nazz as
well as those that had only been available
only on the PatroNet service. In the summer of 2001, he performed on the “A
Walk Down Abbey Road: A Tribute to the
Beatles” tour, with Ann Wilson of Heart,
John Entwistle and Alan Parsons. In 2004,
Rundgren released Liars, a political concept record. He then played the Ric
Ocasek role, touring with the New Cars,
before going solo again. Then, in 2011, he
released two albums: a collection of Robert Johnson covers and (Re)Production, a
collection of Rundgren covers of songs he
produced for other artists over the years.
Last year, he released the album State, his
first collection of original material in five
years. He then toured in support of the
album, went back out on tour with Ringo
and today is in the midst of another solo
tour where he is unpredictably performing a little of everything. Paramount Hudson Valley

REVIEW: WESTCHESTER BROADWAY
THEATRE: SOUTH PACIFIC
By Jim Petrillo
Who doesn’t like a good Rodgers
& Hammerstein musical? South Pacific
is truly one of their best works. The
music is classic Broadway and the
story line in cohesive. This musical is
set on a Pacific Island paradise during
World War II. Within this play are two
love stories, tragedy and a lesson on
prejudice, plus a lot of great, memorable music.
The show opens with a wonderful rendition of “Dites-Moi” sung by
Ngana and Jerome; Emile De
Becque’s young children. This opening number set the stage and pacing
of what would be a delightful and
professional performance. We soon
are introduced to Mr. De Becque,
played by the extremely talented
George Dvorsky and Ens. Nellie Forbush played by Haley Swindal. Ms.
Swindal’s beautiful singing voice had
the audience full of anticipation for
her next number, many of which
were backed up by the talented,
beautiful actresses who played the
nurses. The audience truly loved “I’m
Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa
My Hair.”
Let’s not forget the Sailors and
Seebees in the cast headed by Luther
Billis, played by Bill E. Dietrich. The
men’s strong voices and tight harmonies filled the theater with wonderful tones. Their performance of
“Bloody Mary” along with Joanne
Javien who played Bloody Mary was
incredibly fun a full of energy. Captain Joe Bracket played by James Van
Treuren lands on the island to take
on a dangerous mission. He is intro-
duced to Bloody Mary’s daughter Liat
and quickly fall in love. Their chemistry and singing was magical and the
staging was inventive and effective.
Act II opens with three strong
numbers; “Happy Talk” and “Honey
Bun” are full of fun and shows off
this cast’s talent. Joe Cable’s “You’ve
Got to be Carefully Taught” gave us
reason to think about its true meaning and message that has stood the
test of time and rings true today.
Directed by Charles Repole, Choreographed by Michael Lichtefeld with
musical direction by Leo Carusone.
WBT’s presentation of South Pacific
will leave you smiling as you leave
the theater with these wonderful
show tunes running through your
mind.

REVIEW: RED MONKEY THEATER GROUP:
THE ADVENTURE OF THE SPECKLED BAND
By Michael J. Muldoon
Do you remember the last time
you left a show and wanted more?
In the olden days, in the middle of
the last century, straight plays had
three acts with two intermissions.
They started at 8:15 pm and lasted
three hours. Around the turn of the
21st Century, more and more of the
plays on Broadway were trying to
squeeze into 90 minutes with no
intermission. Generally, the curtain
was 8:00, although they usually
began at 8:15 pm and almost always
ran to 10:00 pm. Even if you loved
the play, you still wanted to get a
drink, or visit the restroom long
before the show ended. You wanted
less.
At the Cahill Theater at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, the Red
Monkey Theater Group leaves you
wanting more. Which is a pleasure.
The play is Sherlock Holmes, The
Adventure of the Speckled Band
adapted by Tal Aviezer from the stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. At a
brisk 60 minutes, filled with intrigue
and action, it leaves you wanting
more.
The entertaining Irish band
begins the evening by taking the
stage singing a few songs retreating
to the stage right tent and underscoring the play. They’re very good too.
Tal Aziezer brings a wild-eyed frantic
intensity to the role of Sherlock Holmes. His physicality and abrupt
movements clearly show the pent-up
energy of the fervid investigator. Joe
Laureiro is a perfect foil, earnest and
focused as the straight man. Elizabeth Mialaret is quite wonderful as
the snooping Mrs. Hudson. Tsebiyah
Mashael is perfect in the role of
Helen Stonor. Elliott Robinson is
suitably menacing as her step-father
Dr. Grimsby Roylott.
Under the deft direction of Holland Renton, the pace is quick, the
action is effectively stylized and the
underlying humor is brought out to
good effect. The costumes are luscious. The set, designed by Zach
Serafin, is cleverly used, with a glowing fireplace that moves, bookshelves
that transform into beds and easily
removed wall hangings revealing and
concealing shredded wall paper and
bullet holes.
Sherlock Holmes, The Adventure
of the Speckled Band isn’t your typical three-act, two-intermission play,
but in this case, less IS more. Fortunately, this is just the beginning of
the Red Monkey Theater Groups’ season. You can get more. Two Gentlemen of Verona will appear in January, 2015, with Yasmina Reza’s ART in
conjunction with Dance in Cahill 4 in
February. Finally, Laughter on the
23RD Floor takes the stage in April,
2015.

REVIEW: HUDSON STAGE: THE GOD GAME
By Michael J. Muldoon
The Hudson Stage Company has
moved across Westchester County,
from Briarcliff to Armonk but they
are up to their same old tricks. That
is, if you call delivering well-acted,
superbly directed, quality theater
with wonderful sets and lighting,
the same old tricks. One new trick
with their most recent production,
The God Game, is that it has not
been seen in New York; yet.
Robert Farrior plays Tom, the
picture-perfect face of a moderate,
well-spoken, Republican Senator.
Yvonne Perry is Lisa, his impeccablydressed, well-coiffed, wife. Again,
picture-perfect. Michael Frederic is
Matt, the smooth talking man
behind the politician. A nice threehander - interesting story, contemporary players and funny too.
Because of the interrelationships
and history between the characters,
this play has depth. What make this
a particularly engaging script are the
weighty issues of belief and principles that drive the character’s
choices and actions.
I was gripped by the first act and
the second act, well, that was even
better. This is an ideal production
for regional theaters with it small
cast and single set. David L.
Asenault’s scenery was very much
like an in-home office of a wealthy
Virginian couple I know: book-lined
and classy. Andrew Gmoser’s lighting effectively enhanced the action.
Charlotte Palmer-Lane costume
design was on target. The direction
by Giovanna Sardelli, clear and concise. It would be nice to see this play
Off-Broadway or perhaps on Broadway, to give it the wider recognition
it deserves. Meanwhile, Westchester
residents can get to see an excellent
play no one else in New York has
seen. Some trick. For information on
upcoming Hudson Stage productions

REVIEW: WHITE PLAINS PERFORMING
ARTS CENTER: SWEENY TODD
By Jim Petrillo
White Plains Performing Arts
Center is presenting Sweeny Todd,
the demon barber of Fleet Street.
WPPAC’s production is a bold interpretation that moves the barber and
pie shops into an insane asylum.
Think of it as One Flew Over the
Cookoo’s Nest meets Sweeny Todd.
As we waited to outside wrought
iron gates to enter the theater, we
hear screams coming from within
the auditorium. We eventually see
some “patients” walking around,
trying to get out of the gates. This
was a very appropriate way to set
the tone for this unique show. Each
actor perfectly maintained their special demeanor during this half hour
of improv and throughout the show.
The musical performances were
powerful and flawlessly performed
by the talented cast and orchestra.
Steven C. Rich who played Sweeny
Todd has the voice to fit the part, his

strong, clear baritone voice rang
beautifully through the auditorium.
His performance of “Epiphany” was
extraordinary.
The word ‘extraordinary’ can honestly be used to describe each and
every cast member. Each actor
showed us many facets of their talents, from their acting to their
strong singing voices. Special praise
goes to Director Jeremy Quinn who
brought this brilliant concept to life.
From beginning to end, Mr. Quinn’s
vision added depth and originality
to the show. He took a chance
which worked very well.
WPPAC’s production of Sweeny
Todd is unlike any you’ll see anywhere, anytime. Find out more

of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award
Best Play Proof at both the Katonah

Armonk. Proof will be performed at
The Hergenhan Center in Armonk,
NY on Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15 as well as The
Katonah Village Library in Katonah
on Friday, November 21 and Saturday, November 22. All times are at
8pm. The cast includes Holland Renton, Cyrus Newitt and Julie ThaxterGourlay. The play will be directed by
Sam Morell. Reservations can be

Proof is about Catherine, the
daughter of Robert, a recently
deceased mathematical genius in his
fifties and professor at the University of Chicago, and her struggle
with mathematical genius and mental illness. Catherine had cared for
her father through a lengthy mental
illness. Upon Robert’s death, his exgraduate student Hal discovers a
paradigm-shifting proof about
prime numbers in Robert’s office.
The title refers both to that proof
and to the play’s central question:
Can Catherine prove the proof’s
authorship along with demonstrating the proof’s authenticity.
Throughout, the play explores Catherine’s fear of following in her
father’s footsteps, both mathematically and mentally and her desperate
attempts to stay in control.
YCPTHEATERWORKS:
DIVIDING THE ESTATE AT NEW VENUE
YCP TheaterWorks is proud to
present their production of Dividing
the Estate by Horton Foote at a new
venue. Performances will take place
at The Cortlandt School of Performing Arts, Carbone Building, 24 Old
Albany Post Road, Croton-on-Hudson

Dividing the Estate is the story of
the Gordon clan, a Texas family who
has been hard hit by the drop in oil
prices in 1987. Family matriarch Stella
(Denise Brown) rules over the family,
but she is 85 years old, and her family
smells their inheritance coming. Her
younger daughter, predatory Mary Jo
(Tori LaLonde) comes to visit for the
day along with her husband (Joe
Manuele) and their two daughters
(Dianne Roxy Pennington & Tara
Perucci), prompting a family gettogether. Mary Jo is deeply in debt
and wants to divide the estate before
her mother dies. Various members of
the family (Julie Griffin, Steve
Schnapper, Ed Fonzo), including the
servants (Grace Gabrieli, Keith Bulluck, Roffa Abayon), take sides in the
debate and wonder how much, if
anything, there actually is to inherit.
The family bickers in the company of
outsiders (Sara Colten & Jacqueline
Anne Smith) as only a Southern family can, mentioning every slight and
insult that has occurred over the past
80 years.
Dividing the Estate will be staged
by experienced director and actor
Elaine Hartel. She has directed many
plays for YCPTW including All in the
Timing, The Foreigner, Over the River
and Through the Woods and Witness
for the Prosecution.
AXIAL THEATRE: THE SEAGULL
Axial Theatre in Pleasantville will
open its 16th season with a mainstage ensemble production of Anton
Chekhov’s The Seagull, a revival of
one the seminal works of world literature. Axial Theatre founder and
artistic director Howard Meyer, the
director of the play, notes that Axial
has decided to expand its original
mission to include classics and revivals
that are relevant to the issues of
today. He notes, “We chose this work
because the themes of the late 19th
century Russian classic resonate with
the same power as they did over 100
years ago: Love triangles, the pain
and obsession of unrequited love,
and the frustrating but consuming
pursuit of success in the arts.” The
Seagull tells the story of a group of
actors, writers and artists who gather
at an estate and find that their
desires for romance and success crisscross as they long for the past, dream
of the future and strive to be seen in
the present.
Director Meyer has directed Hello
and Goodbye, an Athol Fugard premiere in NYC, co-produced by Kevin
Spacey and the first workshop production of Craig Wright’s The Pavilion. He also directed half a dozen
Axial shows, most recently Train Story
by Adam Rapp. The author of over a
dozen produced, full-length and oneact plays, one of which is currently
being made into an indie, he heads
Axial’s acting and playwriting school,
HMActing, teaches at both and is a
private coach. Axial Theatre is located
at 8 Sunnyside Avenue, Pleasantville,
New York.
The curtain is at 8 pm for previews Thursday and Friday, November
6 and 7 and opening night November
8; also 8 pm Fridays and Saturdays
November 14, 15, 21 & 22. There will
be matinees at 2 pm Saturdays,
November 15 & 22, and 4 pm on Sundays, November 9, 16 & 23. Tickets
are $25; $20 for students and seniors.

M&M: MR. DICKENS TELLS
A CHRISTMAS CAROL AT LYNDHURST
Charles Dickens will hold court
once again inside the Lyndhurst mansion in Tarrytown from Friday, December 5 through Sunday, December 28.
“Mr. Dickens” will deliver the famous
author’s historic American readings.
Tickets are $35 for adults and $25 for
children (16 and under) and available
along with show times at www.Lundhurst.org.
A Christmas Carol, was written by
Charles Dickens in 1843 and from 1857
on, he performed public readings of
this holiday classic. He toured A
Christmas Carol throughout England
and the US. His readings were so
popular that people camped overnight
in the streets to buy tickets. In Washington D.C., President Andrew Johnson had tickets for his family every
night. A newspaper wrote at the time,
“He gave to every character a different voice, a different style, a different
face.” We have endeavored to bring
this spirit to life with the M&M Productions version, recreating Charles
Dickens tour of the US in 1867,
adapted for the stage by Melinda
O’Brien.
These performances are given a
special period spirit as they take place
through the beautifully decorated
Lyndhurst mansion. Actor Michael
Muldoon tells the well-loved tale as
guests travel throughout the mansion
“meeting” the different spirits and
characters.
Lyndhurst, a site of the National
Trust for Historic Preservation, is a
Gothic Revival masterpiece on the
banks for the Hudson River in Tarrytown, NY at 635 South Broadway
(Route 9). Designed by Alexander
Jackson Davis in 1838 as a country cottage for Brigadier General William
Paulding, who was twice mayor of
New York City, it was expanded by the
same architect between 1865 and 1867
for industrialist George Merritt. The
now grand mansion was purchased in
1880 by railroad magnate Jay Gould,
and members of his family continued
to use it as their summer home until
1961. Lyndhurst is a ten-minute walk
to Washington Irving’s Sunnyside, so
one could imagine that on his first
American visit, Dickens may have actually visited the site, albeit when Lyndhurst was still a relatively modest cottage known as The Knoll.
For more information about Lyndhurst, visit www.Lyndhurst.org. Comments and press releases for “More Theatre” can be sent to [email protected]. Please submit all PR 7–8 weeks in
advance for consideration.

MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER AT RIDGEFIELD PLAYHOUSE
Five-time
Grammy-Award
winning singer-songwriter and
2012 Nashville Songwriters Hall
of Fame inductee Mary Chapin
Carpenter is on the road again.
She’ll make a stop at The
Ridgefield
Playhouse
on
Wednesday, November 19, at 8
p . with an intimate, acoustic
performance! The tour marks
Carpenter’s return to singing
both timeless hits and deep
cuts from her expansive and
beloved 13-album catalog,
after performing with orchestras in early 2014.
Mary Chapin Carpenter is
well-known for her blend of
pop, folk and country-style
music. With hits “Passionate
Kisses”, “I Feel Lucky”, “I’ll
Take My Chances” and “He
Thinks He’ll Keep Her,” she has
won five Grammy Awards
(with 15 nominations), two
CMA awards and two Academy
of Country Music awards for
her vocals. Carpenter will be
joined on stage by longtime
friends Jon Carroll (piano) and
John Doyle (guitars, bouzouki).
Special guest is singer/songwriter Tift Merritt, who has
built what has been called a
“unique”
and
critically
acclaimed body of work of
sonic short stories and poignant performances.” She has
been compared to Joni
Mitchell and Emmylou Harris.
This event is part of the Doyle
Coffin
Singer/Songwriter
Series.
Carpenter has spent the past
year performing alongside
world-renowned
orchestras
since the release of her debut
orchestral album, Songs From
the Movie which was conducted and arranged by sixtime Grammy-Award winner
Vince Mendoza. Carpenter’s
world debut orchestral concert
took place on January 24 at
the Glasgow Royal Concert
Hall alongside the BBC Scottish
Symphony Orchestra.
In March, she performed two
milestone concerts at New
York’s Lincoln Center with the
New York Philharmonic, conducted by Mr. Mendoza, and
was joined by special guests
Joan Baez, Shawn Colvin, Jerry
Douglas, Tift Merritt and Aoife
O’Donovan.
In addition to releasing her
latest album, Ashes and Roses,
to widespread critical acclaim,
she was recently inducted into
the Nashville Songwriters Hall
of Fame and won an Emmy
award for her work on Nashville Public Television’s No
Going Back: Women and the
War.
Considered by some an
unlikely country music star
who refuses to wear the typical country-and-western attire
and has an Ivy League degree,
Carpenter’s work is genre blurring. Mary Chapin Carpenter
has sold more than 13 million
records.
