BROZOVICH INCHES CLOSER TO THE TOP

Franklin Brozovich wants to play
collegiate tennis at the Division I level.
He wants to be among the elite high
school tennis players in the state of
Michigan.
In his junior season at Port Huron
Northern, Brozovich may have accomplished the latter, and while doing that,
inched closer to accomplishing the former.
“The top two kids this year were really tough,” Brozovich said. “One of them
graduates. I could compete with them,
but it’s kind of hard for me to pull out a
match against them. The third seed, I
had lost to in three sets before. I had
beaten the four seed, I had beaten the
fifth seed, and the sixth seed I’m always
close with.
“I feel like I’m right in there, and I
feel like I have a pretty good shot of
being a top four seed next year if I have
a good season and play my best.”
Brozovich was a state quarterfinalist
this season, losing 6-1, 6-2 there to eventual state champion Tim Wang of Novi.

He entered the tournament unseeded,
although he would have been seeded
seventh if the state didn’t stop at six
seeds.
He finished this season with a record
of 11-5 and was a regional champion. For
his efforts, Brozovich is the Times Herald Boys Tennis Player of the Year for
the third consecutive year. His teammate, Chris Adams, also was considered
for the award.
“I think he’s got a good shot if he
continues to grow — I can’t imagine he
wouldn’t be a top six seed (next year),”
Northern tennis coach Nate Labelle said.

“He’s capable of winning a lot. He lost to
the No. 1 seed in states in a pretty good
match.
“This is going to be his year coming
up in the fall where he’s going to get,
very likely, a seed, and really find his
game. I think he’s going to set himself up
really well for a future college career.”
Brozovich said he’s in the early stages
of the recruiting process, but now is the
time that it’s certain to pick up steam.
The process is nothing new to his family,
as his sisters Rae (Tiffin) and Lizzie
