Dear Colleagues,
It is my privilege to invite you for the “URPS 2015 - operative workshop on Urogynaecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery” scheduled to be held at Voluntary
Health Services, Chennai from 5th to 8th January 2015.
“The glory of medicine is that it is constantly moving forward, that there is
always more to learn” - William J Mayo (1861-1939).
It indeed is true and URPS 2015 is organized by URPSSI & VHS wholly based on it.
Why should a specialist (Gynecologist / Urologist ) participate in URPS 2015 ?
1. Surgeons
may
be
admired,
praised and even
adored for
good
results . But then, they are blamed more than any other specialty for
bad results.
Great surgeon
Theodoric (1205 - 1296)
has said that
“it behooves
practitioners of surgery to frequent the places where skilled surgeons
operate, and to attend these operations diligently and commit them to
memory”
The faculty of URPS 2015 comprise of veteran Urogynaecology surgeons from
different continents
and these “Great leaders don’t tell us what to do ….
They show us how it is done”
They will illustrate all the intricacies of pelvic floor surgeries from 5.1.15 to
8.1.15. at Chennai.
Thus participation in URPS 2015 , makes it possible to learn from these
“Master Surgeons” of the world even when we stay in our own
country.
2. The number of iatrogenic diseases scattered around is approaching
that of the natural ones. The one who does not operate, does not
have complications. No surgeon can hold back from doing surgery.
It is a well known fact that “a good surgeon operates well” however “a great
surgeon manages all his complications and others too”.
URPS 2015 will enable us
to accomplish excellent results with
minimal complications.
3. It is also said that “he
who
learns
his anatomy only
from books
should operate on books only”
Our participation in URPS 2015 will authorize us to operate on our
patients.
4. Moreover the source of most complications is in the operating room.
“Read one, See one and Do one” does not hold good for pelvic floor
surgeries. Pelvic Surgeons should see again and again, and practice.

Prof. Peter Laurence Dwyer

Prof. Paul Riss

Prof. George Ralph

URPS 2015 ensures learning from the operating room and that too
from these “Master Surgeons”
5. The growing scientific advances demands an ongoing learning process.
Regular and continuing knowledge acquisition of
all emerging newer
management modalities becomes an absolute necessity for the medical
fraternity.
It is said that “the illiterate of future are not those who can’t read
or write, but those who can’t learn to unlearn (obsolete methods)
& re – learn” (appropriate newer techniques).
URPS 2015 ensures us to be medically literate.
No more rationalization is required to register and participate in URPS 2015.
Let us join hands and improve the Qol of our women patients who suffer from
urogynecological diseases.
Let us unlearn obsolete techniques and relearn appropriate newer methods.
Let us learn from the “ Master surgeons” of the different continents of world while
staying in our own country and by merely participating in URPS 2015 .
Let us march towards excellence
which can only
be accomplished by training and
habituation.
Look forward to seeing you all.
With warm regards,
Dr. N.Rajamaheswari MD., DGO., MCh., (Urology)
