Communication from the Lengel Family of Pine Grove Township, Schuylkill
County, Pennsylvania, members of Virginville Grange #1832, Virginville,
Berks County, Pennsylvania
Dear Fellow Grangers,
Our youngest daughter, Michelle, has been recently diagnosed with Stage Four Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer
of the lymph nodes. She is being treated at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital, where she is receiving
chemotherapy treatments to combat the disease.
Michelle, seventeen and a senior at Pine Grove High School, comes from a family of Grangers. Her greatgrandparents, Stanley O. and Mabel H. (Hein) Miller, were charter members in 1920 of Virginville Grange #1832,
Berks County, Pennsylvania. Paul J. and Dorothy M. (Miller) Miller, Michelle’s grandparents, are very active
members at Virginville and have belonged to the organization for more than fifty years. They were honored as
the 2008 Pennsylvania State Grange Family of the Year. Michelle’s parents, Donald D. and Brenda E. (Miller)
Lengel, are involved in numerous activities at Virginville, and Michelle and her siblings, twins Meredith A. and
Ian P., have grown up in the Grange. All three were active in Virginville Junior Grange #436 and, with their entire
family, are lifetime members of Virginville Grange #1832. Michelle received the Sixth Degree at Pennsylvania
State Grange Session this past October in Reading, Pennsylvania.
Please feel free to add her name to your church prayer list and keep her in your thoughts and prayers over the
next few months. As a family we are moving forward with the precepts of the Grange in our hearts:
Faith - that God will heal her body,
Hope - that she will achieve every goal she has set for herself in life,
Charity - that we continue to feel the love and concern everyone has
expressed to our entire family, and
Fidelity - that we strive to be faithful to the task ahead.
The purpose of this communication is to inform our Grange family, so they may offer encouragement for
Michelle during this difficult time. We are not requesting any financial assistance. If you wish to do so, we ask
that you consider a donation in honor of Michelle to Four Diamonds. Four Diamonds’ mission is to conquer
childhood cancer by assisting children treated at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital and their families
through superior care, comprehensive support, and innovative research.
A Facebook Group, entitled Support for Michelle Lengel, has been created where you are able to post notes of
encouragement for Michelle and follow her journey to cure her Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. If you would like to mail
notes of encouragement to Michelle, we would be grateful.
