Dad passed away November 12, 2014 at the age of 90 years, following a brief illness. Dad was born January 26, 1924 at Beiseker, Alberta to John and Lydia Ernst. He was born into a blended family of eighteen. At a young age he moved with the family to the Wimborne area where Dad resided until his passing. In January of 1944, Dad married LaVerda Layden of the Mayton area. Together for 63 years, they raised four children - Carol (Stewart) Bennett of Innisfail, Frances (Kurt) Walz of Rocanville, Saskatchewan, Linda (Larry) Cornell of Innisfail, and Gerald (Susan) Ernst of Rimbey. Also mourning his loss are 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Dad lived a quiet, simple life. He loved the land and farmed with passion. He was a good father, teaching us an important life lesson - learn to laugh at yourself! His favorite line to his grandchildren being “I should kick a hole in ya!” He was both loving and brutally honest, which endeared him to some but not so much to others! Dad was predeceased by his soulmate Verdie in April of 2007 and by many of his siblings and in-laws. Dad to us was humor, love, and a listening ear. Thank-you Dad A memorial reception will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Innisfail Golf Club. Heartland Funeral Services, ltd., Innisfail entrusted with arrangements.
