Parish Directory
In Our Parish
Our Lord Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe
Jesus Christ is king of all creation. At
the end of Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus
tells his disciples that all authority in
heaven and on earth has been given to
him (28:18). The Revelation of John
calls him King of kings and Lord of
lords (19:16). People wanted to make
Jesus a king after he worked the
miracle of the loaves, but he went
away by himself instead (Jn 6:15).
They wanted a secular king to govern their land. Jesus
wanted to rule their hearts. The Catholic Church
celebrates the kingship of Christ on the last Sunday of the
church year which is November 23rd. The liturgical year
reaches its climax in a celebration that honors the supreme
command of Christ. He has dominion over all creation,
and he rules every person who believes in him. The feast of
Christ the King entered the Catholic calendar in 1925,
which Pope Pius XI had set aside as a holy year. Pius
thought the feast would bring the year to a solemn close,
help combat the forces of secularism, and remind the world
that Christ is its ultimate ruler. The pope chose the last
Sunday of October because of its proximity to the end of
the liturgical year and to serve as a prelude to All Saints
Day on Nov. 1. The same day was already being observed
as Reformation Sunday in the Protestant traditions. Pope
Paul VI moved the observance from the end of October to
the very last Sunday of the church year in order to exalt its
theme even more. Now we end the year with an idea that
sums up all that we have celebrated and that prepares us to
start anew: this Jesus, whose birth we will soon celebrate, is
the king of all creation.
Thanksgiving Dinner
The Christ Renews His Parish ministry will be helping Fr. Derk
host the annual Thanksgiving dinner on November 27th. It will
take place in the Parish Family Center on Thanksgiving Day.
A traditional dinner of turkey and all the
fixings will be served at 1pm. If you
don’t have family in the area or have no
place to go on Thanksgiving Day, come
celebrate with your parish family. The
dinner will be free. We ask that you call
Gloria in the parish office at (407) 6576114, ext. 228, no later than Monday,
November 24th if you have any
questions or to make reservations for
you and the members in your party.
Join us for Mass on Thanksgiving Day
We invite all to start Thanksgiving Day by “giving thanks” in
the celebration of the Eucharist. Mass will be celebrated at
9:00am in the church.
The Song of Harvest Home - UCF Choral Concert

calendar year. Tickets are $25 for 57 chances to win. The
proceeds from these sales go right back to the church in the
form of: Carillon Sound System that rings before and after
each mass as well as on the hour and half hour; new flat
screen TV's in the classrooms; a significant donation to the
Evangelical Ministry for the purchase of the books
distributed last year at Christmas and again this year. So
support for this 300 club gets you a chance to win some
money, but more importantly allows us to make improvements around the church, so please consider buying a ticket
today. They are on sale at every Mass and by seeing any
Men's Club member.
300 Club Winner
The winner for November 9th: #0185.
Feeding the Homeless
In October, your donations fed the residents in the new
Men's Pavilion, people invited in off the street, those at the
Women, Children and Families
facility as well as to the Battered
Women's facility. Thanks to all of
you who helped us bring meals to
homeless in downtown Orlando. It
was done through your donating
food, donating money, helping with
preparing and serving the hungry. May God bless you all
for your incredible generosity and dedication. Next
Sunday, November 23rd we will again be serving meals at
the Coalition for the Homeless. Tins being distributed
today after Masses can be returned with prepared food (e.g.
pasta, rice, meat, potatoes, baked items) to the Parish Hall
between 7:30am and 2:30pm next Sunday, November
23rd. For more details call (407) 365-6730. Your continued
support is greatly appreciated. Your monetary donations
together with food donations, help us to serve all these
meals. Monetary donations can be left at our carts outside
the church on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Alternatively,
checks made out to Sts. Peter and Paul, with “for Feed the
Homeless” in the memo section, can be dropped in the
collection baskets during Masses throughout the month.
We periodically also need additional assistance with food
transport to the Coalition. If have a truck or SUV and
could serve as back-up for this vital function, please contact
Bill at (407) 365-6730 or [email protected]. If you have
not been receiving information from our ministry as
requested, or would like to start getting it, send an email to
Bill at (new address) [email protected]
