WALSH: Walsh (4-6, 3-6) closes the season against
NCAA ll fourth ranked Ferris State University (10-, 90) at Fawcett Stadium today.
LET’S STREAK: Walsh is on its first two-game win
streak since the 2011 season. The Cavs defeated
Glenville State 31-23 in a non-conference game at
Fawcett Stadium last Saturday. The Cavs have not
won three games in a row since they closed the 2011
season with three consecutive victories. A Walsh win
today would equal their 5-6 record from 2011.
BROWN SHINES: Senior defensive back Jamaris
Brown was responsible for four Glenville State
turnovers as he came up with three interceptions and
a fumble recovery in Walsh’s 31-23 win. He also
gave the Cavaliers a big momentum swing with an
88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
The touchdown came late in the third quarter and put
Walsh back on top 24-17 after Glenville State tied
the game. Earlier in the quarter, his fumble recovery
set up the Cavs deep in the Pioneers' territory to set
up a touchdown that put Walsh up 17-10.
Two of his interceptions came in crucial fourth
quarter drives, and stopped Glenville State drives
deep into Cavalier territory. His three interceptions
tied a school record, and are the first for a Walsh
player since Darryl Lyons in 2002. Brown is fourth in
the GLIAC with five interceptions.
Brown also returned four kicks for 150 yards and two
punts for 22 yards.
HONORED: Brown was named the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player
of the Week for Week 10. He was also named a
National Athlete Player of the Week by Beyond
Sports Network.
PLENTY OF HEROES: There were plenty of heroes
in Walsh's 31-23 win over visiting Glenville State
College.
DUDICS: Walsh opened the scoring with a 38-yard
Michael Dudics field goal on the first possession of
the game. The field goal capped a 10-play, 54-yard
drive.
SCHROCK, FRACASSA: The Cavs took a 10-0 first
quarter lead when Anthony Schrock caught a 16yard scoring pass from Jason Fracassa with 1:16
left. Schrock caught eight passes for 123 and
Fracassa completed 16-22 passes for 209 yards.
CARRYING THE MALE: Walsh snapped a 10-all
third quarter tie when Aaron Male scored on a nineyard run. The score was set-up by a Brown fumble
recovery and six-yard return to the Glenville nineyard line. Male would then tack on Walsh’s final
score with a 43-yard run in the fourth quarter. He
finished the day with 112 yards.
BROWN TIME: After Glenville tied the score a 17all, Brown took over. Just 13 seconds after the
Glenville TD Brown returned the ensuing kick-off
back 88 yards for a score to put the Cavs back on
top 24-17 heading into the fourth period.
Glenville answered with a TD early in the fourth
quarter, but try for the point after was blocked by
Cameron Trudell, keeping the Cavs ahead 24-23.
Walsh's final score was set-up by another Brown
interception at the Walsh 26-yard line with 7:12 to
play. The Cavs then marched 72 yards in six plays,
and tacked on the final score Male’s 43-yard run.
Brown would then pick-off his third pass of the day
on the next possession to seal the win for the Cavs.
TRUDELL ON THE BALL: Linebacker Cameron
Trudell led Walsh with nine tackles, and has
averaged 10.5 per game the last five games. He
leads the team with 81 tackles.
SPECIAL TEAMS AGAIN: Walsh’s special teams
played a big role for the second consecutive week.
Tim Carter punted four times for a 43.5 average with
a long punt 52 yards, plus Brown returned kick-off 88
yards for a score.
THIRD DOWN: Walsh was a season-best 8 for 13
on third down conversions, with almost half of the 17
first downs coming on third down.
SCHROCK, ROBINSON KEEP CATCHING:
Anthony Schrock has caught 14 passes the last two
games for 192 yards. Jerald Robinson caught five
passes last week, and had caught nine passes the
last two games. Robinson is third in the GLIAC in
receiving touchdowns with eight.
GLIAC LEADERS: Jamaris Brown is first in kick
return average (31.4) and fourth with five
interceptions. Jerald Robinson is tied for third with
eight touchdown receptions. Anthony Schrock is
ninth with 43 catches and Aaron Male is sixth in
rushing yards per carry (6.0). Tim Carter is second in
punting (39.9) and Michael Dudics in ninth in FG%
(62%) and is a perfect 26-26 in extra points.

WEARSCH, BAILEY, GARY, TONN DONE FOR
YEAR: Starting offensive lineman Pete Wearsch,
defensive lineman Dylan Bailey, wide receiver Darryl
Gary and quarterback Brody Tonn are all lost for the
season. Wearsch is suffering from a neck injury and
Bailey and Gary both from knee injuries. Tonn has
missed the last six games due to turf toe.
HONOR: Walsh will honor 17 senior’s in pregame
ceremonies.
FERRIS STATE: The undefeated and fourth ranked
Ferris State University Bulldogs (10-0, 9-0) clinched
at least a share of the program's first Great Lakes
Intercollegiate
Athletic
Conference
(GLIAC)
Championship since 1999 by rallying from behind for
a 35-17 win over Northern Michigan last Saturday (at
FSU's Top Taggart Field.
The Bulldogs overcame a 10-point second half
deficit against a NMU team that had upset hopes on
its mind.
SENIOR PRIDE: After honoring a large contingent of
seniors, the Bulldogs struck first as Jason Vander
Laan capped off a four-play, 72-yard drive with a five
-yard touchdown run to take a 7-0 lead at 6:59 of the
first quarter.
The Wildcats, though, came right back with a 17yard touchdown run after the Bulldogs fumbled a
punt to setup the short field.
Northern Michigan then grabbed its first lead of the
game late in the first half when they picked off a
Vander Laan pass for a 14-7 halftime lead.
The Wildcats would force a Ferris State fumble on
the opening kick of the second half, but the FSU
defense stepped up and held Northern Michigan to a
27-yard field goal to pushed the Wildcats' lead to 177 early in the third quarter.
VANDER LAAN TO THE RESCUE: Jason Vander
Laan then went to work and engineered the
Bulldogs' second half comeback. The Harlon Hill
Trophy candidate led the Bulldogs on a 11-play, 74yard drive to cut the Wildcats lead to 17-14 five
minutes into the second half. He found wide receiver
Kenny Feyh for a 17-yard touchdown for his 25th
touchdown pass of the season.
Ferris State still trailed 17-14 going into the fourth
quarter, but the Bulldogs reclaimed the lead on a sixyard touchdown run by Vander Laan with 11:43 to
play. The Vander Laan touchdown run was set up by
a 40-yard completion to Shakur Sanders.
FSU then came up with a critical special teams play
as the Bulldogs forced a fumble on the ensuing
kickoff.
Vander Laan then reached pay-dirt for his third
rushing touchdown of the game and 16th of the
season with 8:22 to go, giving FSU a 28-17 lead.
The Bulldog defense limited NMU to only a field goal
the entire third and fourth quarters. They came up
with a big fourth down stop to setup FSU's final score
when Jamaal Jackson scored on a four-yard run with
1:19 left in the game. His score capped a short nineplay, 36-yard march for Ferris State.
FSU finished with 483 yards of total offense to 278
for NMU. Vander Laan rushed for a team-high 90
yards and added 222 through the air while
accounting for four touchdowns on the day. Jackson
added 72 yards on 17 carries with a TD while
Sanders paced the Bulldogs' receivers with four
receptions for 89 yards.
Defensive end Justin Zimmer tallied seven tackles, a
sack and two tackles for loss for FSU. Defensive
back KC Zenner added nine tackles in the victory.
ALMOST PERFECT: In the second half alone, FSU
converted on 10-of-11 third down plays.
CONGLOMERATE: Ferris State is ranked among
the nation's top four teams in six different polls.
FSU is also presently ranked first in the NCAA Super
Region Four Rankings with the official NCAA
postseason selections set to be made on Sunday,
Nov. 16. FSU has not advanced to the Division II
Playoffs since 1996.
JOIN THE ELITE: Ferris State has the opportunity to
finish the regular-season with a perfect 11-0 mark. In
school history, four Bulldog teams have finished a
regular-season unbeaten but none have ever went
11-0 in regular-season action.
THE LONGEST: The Bulldogs have currently won a
nation-leading and school-record 14-straight games
dating back to last year and remain Michigan's only
unbeaten collegiate or professional team.
GLIAC LEADERS: Jason Vander Laan leads the
GLIAC with 25 TD passes and is first in completion
percentage (68.9). He has thrown only four
interceptions. Vander Laan is fourth in rushing yards
per game (122.7), is tied for second with 16 rushing
TDs, and with 96 points. He is seventh in all-purpose
yards and is averaging 122.7 per game. Jahaan
Brown is eighth in all-purpose yards (113.0) and
ninth in rushing with 786 yards. Jamaal Jackson is
ninth in rushing TDs with seven. Mitch Bredberg is
second in the GLIAC, among kickers, in scoring with
74 points and is eighth overall. Justin Zimmer is fifth
with 5.5 sacks. Troy Smith is fifth with fourth
interceptions and Ato Condelee is seventh with
three.
POINTS: Ferris State has scored 40 or more points
in a single game six times, and scored 75 points in
their season opening win at McKendree and 68
against Tiffin.

Jason Vander Laan rushed for three TDs and
passed for 225 yards as the Bulldogs beat Walsh 5916 at Fawcett Stadium last year. Walsh led 3-0 after
one quarter. Ferris would score 21 points in the
second and fourth quarters and 17 points in the third
quarter.
In 2012, Walsh led 7-6 early in the fourth quarter but
fumbled on a potential scoring drive and fell 20-14 at
Ferris.

DID YOU KNOW: Ted Karras’ father, Ted
Karras Sr., was a member of the 1963 NFL
champion Chicago Bears and played pro
football from 1958-1966. He played with the
Steelers (1958-59), Bears (1960-64), Lions
(1965) and Rams (1966). Ted’s uncle’s, Alex
Karras, played his entire career with the Lions
(1958-70), and Lou Karras played with the
Redskins (1950-52). Ted, Jr., played one year
in the NFL, with the Redskins (1987).
20th YEAR: This is the 20th season of Walsh
University Football. The Cavs put together 12
straight winning seasons to start the program.
Their first losing season was in 2007.
Overall the Cavs have posted 14 winning
seasons and have an all-time record of 12691.
HOME WINS: The Cavs have an all-time
home mark of 66-45, with 15 winning seasons
at home. The Cavs are 61-37 at Fawcett
Stadium, where they started play in 1997. The

WINNING
The 2012 season was Karras’ fifth winning season
in six years, as his Knights earned the program's first NAIA
National Championship. Marian won its second consecutive MidStates Football Association Mideast League championship and
finished the regular season 8-1 and 12-1 overall. Marian defeated
Morningside College 30-27 in overtime in the title game. His 2012
team placed 26 players on the All-MSFA Team, with eight earning
first team accolades. Karras earned AFCA NAIA Region ll Coach
of the Year honors for the second straight season. The Knights
spent five weeks as the top ranked team in the NAIA, and were
ranked in the top ten the entire season. In the final poll released
December 18, the Knights were No. 1.
In 2011, Karras directed Marian to its first MSFA Mideast
League championship after its first perfect 10-0 regular season
and was named MSFA Mideast Coach of the Year. Marian started
the season ranked sixth and spent five weeks, until the national
semifinals, as the nation's No. 1-ranked team. The team finished
the season 12-1 and closed the year as the third-ranked team in
the NAIA.
At Marian, 51 Knights earned All-MSFA Mideast League
honors, a school record, with 22 of those players earning first
team honors. He also earned American Football Monthly NAIA
National Coach of the Year honors. Assistant Coach Martin
Mathis was named MSFA Mideast League Assistant Coach of the
Year as well. He also coached the 2011 MSFA MEL Player of the
Year in Dustin Craig, who also was named the program's second
AFCA-NAIA First Team All-American.
In 2010, Marian produced the program's third straight winning season, earned their first-ever 10-win season, and garnered their first-ever top 10 ranking in the NAIA Football Coaches' Poll. The culmination of the greatest season in the program's
history came on November 14, 2010 when Marian University
was selected to play in the NAIA Football Championship Series
for the first time in school history. The Knights, ranked 11th at
the time, defeated eighth-ranked Ottawa University by a 35-20
score to earn their first-ever postseason victory. MU fell to eventual national champion Carroll College after a trip to the mountains in Helena, Montana. They finished the 2010-11 year as the
sixth-ranked team in the nation.
The 2009 season was the program's second straight winning
season as it earned a 6-5 record. Marian defeated the University
of St. Francis (Ill.) on a last-second field goal to earn its first-ever
season-opening win. The Knights also opened a new stadium,
St. Vincent Health Field, with a 34-16 win over Grand View,
which finished the season ranked in the top
25. The season culminated with the program's first-ever AFCANAIA All-America selection in the graduated

Karras guided the Knights to their first-ever winning season at 7-4 in just
the second season of the programs existence. The Knights also earned
votes in the NAIA Top 25 for the first time and defeated 25th-ranked
McKendree, 28-21, on the road for their first-ever road win and their firstever win over a ranked opponent.
STARTING BLOCKS
The inaugural season yielded the team's firstever victory, an MSFA All-Mideast second team selection, an MSFA AllAcademic team selection, and four MSFA All-Mideast honorable mentions.
The Knights finished 1-9 in their first-ever season.
INDIANA
A northwest Indiana native, Karras came to Marian University
after three seasons at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Under his
tutelage, the Fighting Engineer program was revitalized with shocking
victories over DePauw University, Washington University and the program's
first victory at Rhodes College in Memphis since 1971. He posted a pair
of .500 (5-5) records in two of his first three seasons, the first since 1995.
During his time at RHIT, his players excelled in both football and
academics. He had two Academic All-Americans, 13 All-Conference performers, and the first All-American defensive lineman in
school history. He also coached the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2004. Karras went 14-16 with RHIT, the best three-year
record of any coach, and was named one of the "10 Hottest Coaches in Division III" by American Football Monthly.
For four years prior to RHIT, Karras was the offensive coordinator at MSFA foe St. Xavier University, and was part of an MSFA
Midwest League championship and NAIA playoff-qualifier in 2002.
REBUILDING
Prior to SXU, Karras served as the head coach at Andrean High School in Gary, Ind., from 1996-98. Karras rebuilt
a program that had never won a regional championship. During his tenure, Andrean won three sectional and two regional
championships and earned a berth in the state championship game. Karras amassed a 30-10 overall record and was named the
Indiana Football Coaches' Association Regional Coach of the Year in 1997 and 1998.
He also served as defensive line coach at St. Francis College from 1995-96 and defensive coordinator at Lake Forest College from
1993-95. Karras served as a defensive line graduate assistant at Northern Illinois University in 1992-93 and as a graduate assistant at
the University of Minnesota from 1991-92. His coaching experience began as a defensive line coach for Kankakee Valley High School
in 1989.
NORTHWESTERN
Karras was a four-year starter at Northwestern University
from 1983-87 and earned his bachelor of science from Northwestern in 1987. His
playing career continued as he signed with the Washington Redskins as a free agent
and spent one season with the Redskins.
RICH BLOODLINE
Coach Karras' bloodline is football-rich; his father, Ted Sr.,
played for the George Halas-led Chicago Bears from 1960-64. His uncle, the late
Alex Karras, played 13 seasons with the Detroit Lions (1958-71) and earned All-Big
Ten honors at the University of Iowa.
FAMILY
Karras and his wife, Jennifer, have two children, Taylor, a senior honors
student at Indianapolis Cathedral, and Teddy, who is a junior offensive lineman at the
University of Illinois. Teddy is the seventh member of the Karras family to play
football in the Big Ten Conference.
