Great Catholic Thinkers - Fr. Karl Rahner, SJ, is dubbed “the
first modern theologian.” Learn more 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17
as Bishop Gerald Wiesner, OMI, leads a Foundations session
on “Great Catholic Thinkers” held at the Cathedral of the Holy

Faith formation - St. John Bosco Parish, 1202 Avenue O
South, Saskatoon is hosting a series of talks on faith formation
and couples’ prayer. Talks begin each evening at 7 p.m. and
include: ”What Happens at Mass” Wednesday, Nov. 19; and
“Praying with Sacred Scripture” Wednesday, Nov. 26.
Presented by Matthew Courchene. All are welcome.
Panel discussion: "To Be a Church in Dialogue" will be
held 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at St. Andrew’s
College on the University of Saskatchewan Campus. Join the
United Church's Riverbend Presbytery in reflection on local,
national, and international ecumenical dialogue. Panellists
include three local experts: Gordon Jensen (Lutheran), Sandra
Beardsall (United Church of Canada), and Nick Jesson (Roman
Catholic). Everyone is welcome.
Women's Wellness Day, with a theme of “Holy Health and
Healing” offered at Queen's House Saturday, Nov. 22,
facilitated by Elaine Zakreski and Diane Waldbillig, combining
inspiring spiritual stories with Holy Yoga, a unique prayer form

FacetoFace United Conference 2014 will unite, support,
and challenge participants in their faith, through eucharistic
adoration, keynote talks, and fellowship for adults and teens

Living With Dignity

Sponsored by the Canadian Medical and Dental
Society and the Diocese of Saskatoon, this evening
includes guest speaker Dr. Margaret Cottle, a
clinical instructor at UBC, a palliative physician
and a member of the Euthanasia Prevention
Coalition. She will be joined by Larry Worthen of
Dartmouth Nova Scotia who is the acting director
of the Canadian Medical and Dental Society. This
public event is open to all, at no cost. A separate
event for parish leadership will take place Nov. 28.

A lecture series about “Pope Francis on the Joy of the
Gospel” will be presented by Fr. Gregory Hrynkiw, ASTH, a
Byzantine-Catholic monk, with sessions from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.,

Christmas Without You - Christmas is a difficult time of the
year for anyone who has lost a loved one. ‘Mourning to Dawn
Grief Ministry’ and St. Therese Institute of Faith and Mission are
offering a day of hope and support for those who have lost a
loved one. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec.
6 at St. Therese Institute of Faith and Mission, in Bruno SK.

An Interfaith Conversation on Climate Change will be held

Prison outreach – The diocesan Restorative Ministry office is
seeking donations of rosaries for men at the Saskatoon
Correctional Centre. Please drop off donations at the Catholic
Pastoral Centre, 2nd floor of Holy Family Cathedral, 123 Nelson
Road, Saskatoon or contact Dianne at 306-659-5845. Also
needed are donations of bibles, blank greeting cards, as well as
white socks, sweat pants and parkas (large, XL, XXL and up).
Walking With Our Sisters commemorative art installation is at
Wanuskewin Heritage Park in Saskatoon until Nov. 21, to
honour the lives of missing and murdered Aboriginal women, to
acknowledge the grief and torment that the families and
communities of these women continue to suffer, and to raise
awareness of the issue and create opportunity for dialogue. For

The Saskatoon event is in need of support, volunteers and
donations. There is an urgent need for men to assist as
“firekeepers,” as well as other volunteers. Fundraising is
underway to help cover accommodation, meal and travel costs
for families of missing and murdered women, to cover the cost
of a deaf interpreter, etc. Other needs include: hides for drummaking workshop (moose, elk or deer), tobacco for ceremonies,
firewood, and food for the men who are volunteering around the

We are children of light, invited and baptized to live as the good
wife; opening hands to the poor, reaching out to the needy. God
has given each of us certain abilities and resources. Do you use
these only for own needs and wants? Are you afraid of generous
giving? Trust in God, sow into his Kingdom for his glory, then
more will be entrusted to you and you will have an abundance.

The 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council’s
Decree on Ecumenism will be marked on Nov. 21.
“While it is true that many Christians understand the moral
teaching of the Gospel differently from Catholics, and do not
accept the same solutions to the more difficult problems of
modern society, nevertheless they share our desire to stand
by the words of Christ as the source of Christian virtue, and
to obey the command of the Apostle: ‘And whatever you
do, in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord
Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God the Father through
Him’ (Col. 3, 17).” – Decree on Ecumenism, Paragraph 23

persecution for their Christian faith.
Sunday Smile - The farmer's son was returning from the
market with a crate of chickens his father had entrusted to him,
when all of a sudden the box fell of his wagon and broke open.
Chickens scurried off in different directions, but the determined
boy walked all over the neighborhood, looking far and wide,
scooping up the wayward birds and returning them to the repaired
crate. Unsure whether he had found them all, the boy reluctantly
returned home. "Pa, the chickens got loose," the boy confessed
sadly, "but I managed to find twelve of them." "Well, you did a
good job, son," the farmer beamed. "You only started with seven."
