Pastel Portraits by Daniel Greene, considered

• “Alejandro Almanza Pereda: Absence Makes
the Heart Grow Fonder,” in the Rubin Gallery.
Pereda, a 2005 graduate of UTEP, has developed an international reputation for the creation of large-scale artworks that often appear
to defy the laws of physics. The gallery
becomes a “hazardous landscape” with bowling
balls balanced on glasses balanced on tables balanced on file cabinets, a sharpened axe dangling
from the ceiling and other items.
• Machine Project at the Border, in the Project
Space and in Downtown El Paso. The Machine
Project is an installation, education and performance series led by L.A.-based artist Mark
Allen. The project distinguishes itself from
more traditional art venues by its idiosyncratic
programming, disregard for the traditional
boundaries between disciplines and its emphasis on having fun.
• “INDEX,” in the L Gallery. The group exhibit
exploring the context of contemporary Juarez
features works by Francis Alys, Gina Arizpe,
Roberto Cardenas and Olga Guerra.

November’s featured artist is Teri Spicer,
who paints acrylics of animals an Día de los
