ing vocals for Gold on the Ceiling and Lonely Boy were highlights with layered harmonies
from Joreinel, Angela, Georgia, Mark and Ciel.
Cameron Findlay on the sound desk worked overtime finding the various changes and commented on the tightness of such a large group. After the first fifteen minutes the band’s
nerves settled and they found an excellent groove, completing an amazingly varied and entertaining set of songs from acoustic indie songs like Dream Catch Me through to old aussie
rock and modern pop to the progressive new metal of Supermassive Black Hole by Muse.
The experience gained from this is invaluable and I look forward to our lunchtime concert in
Week Eight and continued community involvement next year. The band is already booked
to play at Relay for Life in March next year so I am looking forward to their continued development.

Chaplain’s Corner
By Fr. Christian Saminal
The Family and faith.
There is this saying that
says, “Charity begins at
home.” It is the family
that “teaches children
that they are loved
equally and unconditionally. They
experience love not as the world
loves them for what they can ‘do’,
but rather as God loves them, for
who they ‘are”.
As Chris Meney would point out, the
‘family is the usual way in which each
of us learns to develop a relationship
with God.’ “It is the community in
which, from childhood one can beggin to honour God” (CCC 2207). It has
been called the ‘domestic church’
and it is where we learn the value of
the Christian life’s most urgent demand: deep and profound charity.
This is a love that is of the very nature of God. Within the family children learn how God’s love for us is
revealed through the sacrificial act of
Jesus Christ. They also learn why the
Mass is so central and how the Eucharist enables us to continue God’s
work in us and through us. Through
the family children discover that this
totally self-sacrificial act of love is not
just a historical event or an abstract
ideal. It is a concrete reality, which
their parents reveal to their children
by continually ‘offering themselves
up’ out of love. The family teaches
children that they are loved equally
and unconditionally. They are loved
whether they are healthy or sick, ‘
normal’ or ‘handicapped’, intelligent
or a struggler. They experience love
not as the world loves them, for
what they can ‘do’, but rather as God
loves them, for who they ‘are’. The
dynamics of family life often require
the devotion of significant time, care,
resources and support to different
members at various stages. Such
decisions have their roots in a deep
and abiding respect for the inherent
dignity of each family member. In a
very special way, children learn that
love of God and love of neighbour
have become one: ‘As you did it to
the least of these my brethren, you
did it to me’ (Mt. 25:40).

I am a physiotherapist and am travelling with Equal Health, a medical team. Our team of
15 is made up of a paediatrician, dentists, optometrists, occupational therapists and myself.
In 2013 we took over wheelchairs kindly supplied by Ollie Pickett’s Wheelchairs for Kids.
We sorted seating out for several of the teenagers with wonderful results. There is great
need and our team will be working hard in many ways.
Colleen McGlade and Jen Grimes have very kindly offered to hold a cake stall to help me
raise much needed funds for the residents. We will be holding the cake stall at Recess on

Milo T20 Blast School Cricket Cup
This interschool competition was held at North Road on Thursday 6 November. St Joseph’s College had a very successful day, remaining unbeaten in the round robin games
before winning the B division title. The team was made up of Year Eight and Nine students
who all participated with great enthusiasm and discipline.
In the first game against a combined team, St Joseph’s batted first to make 50 from eight
overs, with Aidan Dallimore and Myles Jackson combining to score 34 from their 2 overs.
The combined side could only reply with a total of 39.
Next the Albany Senior High School girl’s team could only manage 17 runs against some
tight bowling with the College team scoring 51. Aidan again featured, this time with Fraser
Pearce to score nearly half of the final total. The Australian Christian College team scored
a respectable 50 runs batting first in the following game with St Joseph’s falling over the
line with 54 in a tight match. Daniel “pup” Yuswak and David Pell got the side over the line
batting last in a tense situation. The final against the combined team was a high scoring
match with all batting pairs contributing to a score of 79. The opposition could only manage 62 in reply. My thanks go to the team members and joint captains Daniel and Myles
for displaying mature positive behaviour throughout the day.

SPECIAL NEWSLETTER
Dear Parents
I have been informed of an incident that occurred yesterday after school in the community.
Two of our students were approached by strangers and asked to accompany them in a car.
Fortunately, both children refused and informed their parents who reported this matter to the police.
The purpose of this communication is to alert parents to this incident and for you to be vigilant
when it comes to children being out in the community without supervision. Further reminders to
your child about the dangers of accepting requests to accompany strangers would also be
worthwhile.
Yours sincerely
