A PROCLAMATION INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK AT VUU WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: THEREFORE: The U.S. Department of State and Education have declared November 17‐21, 2014 as International Education Week in observance of the many important contributions of international education to our nation; and International understanding, respect, and appreciation begin with education and the exchange of knowledge among students, scholars, and members of the public; and In an increasingly interconnected world, improving cultural literacy prepares our students, faculty, and staff to work, live, and compete in the global economy and contribute significantly to our institution’s vision of developing scholars, leaders, and lifelong learners of a global society; and There are several international education and exchange programs –public and private – campus‐based and national – that promote the sharing of ideas and experiences across borders. These include study‐abroad programs, foreign students on U.S. campuses, student‐faculty exchange programs, foreign‐language studies, camp adventure, and Fulbright scholars program; and By participating in such programs, our young people develop a greater appreciation and respect for other people and their cultures, while breaking down barriers of ignorance to understanding and cooperation, which are vital to peace and prosperity within our campus; and I, Dr. CLAUDE G. PERKINS, President and CEO of Virginia Union University, Richmond, Virginia, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Board of Trustees, do hereby proclaim November 17‐21, 2014 as INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK at Virginia Union University and encourage all students, faculty and staff to recognize the importance of international education in our lives, communities, State, Nation, and world. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I hereunto set my signature to be affixed this 1st day of November in the year of our Lord two thousand and fourteen. Claude G. Perkins, Ph.D.
