Happy May Pioneers! Our Annual Spring Picnic was held on April 21st in the
fellowship hall of Moffett Road Assembly of God Church. Our menu was a Spaghetti dinner
with plenty of sides and desserts brought by the members. Thank you to everyone for bringing
dishes to share and to all that attended. A special thank you to Virginia Mayo and her church
team for cooking the spaghetti and allowing us to meet at the Church! We
had a great time and wonderful fellowship.
Our next meeting will be May 19th at the Azalea City Golf Course, 1000 Gaillard Dr., 11:30
AM near Municipal Park.
Hope to see you there!
Letter from the President
First of all I want to thank everyone who attended the spring picnic at Moffet Rd.
Assembly of God Church. We were treated to a spaghetti dinner prepared by Virginia
Mayo. Virginia exhibited her mastery of culinary arts with one of the finest meals any of
us have ever enjoyed. If she isn’t careful, we may start to expect this from her on a
regular basis. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who brought a dish as well.
Camp Bluebird was held April 8th, 9th and 10th. Thanks to the Pioneers who
participated: Tara Carnahan, Ricky Rivers, Dottie Steelreath, Dennis Saucier, Gene
Miller, Allan Trull, Buddy Wilder, Andy Anderson, Mary Anderson, Gordon Sanders,
Barbara Sanders, Rosalyn Anthony, Virginia Mayo, Larry Easterling, and Anthony
Sarradet.
Our schedule for the Month of May is very ambitious. Already we have participated in
the Semmes Relay for Life at Mary G. Montgomery High School, which was held on
May 1st.
On May 2nd we had two events. Yellow Day was held at Camp Grace and was covered
by Tara Carnahan. . Izzy Perez arranged for the Pioneers to attend a Fly In at Roy Ray
airfield, formerly known as Grice Field, where we set up to sell cook books. Pioneers
attending were Virginia Mayo, Betty Havard, Izzy Perez, Rachaele Perez, Paul Moses,
Ben Sumrall, Anthony and Virginia Sarradet and family. Ben offered us all a ride in his
airplane. Caroline Franklin accepted and became a member of the young eagles. Ben
said he ruined her life.
May 5th found us at West Side Park for the Challenger League cookout. Pioneers
participating in this were Buddy Wilder, Gordon Sanders, Joe and Zack Johnson, Larry
Easterling, Butch Harden, Allan Trull, Virginia Mayo, Dottie Steelreath, Anthony and
Virginia Sarradet and family.
Later on this month we plan to move the Pioneer room from 2155 Old Shell Rd to the
Skyline Central Office.
On May 23rd we have the 2nd annual disk golf tournament, which will be held at Moffet
Rd. Assembly of God Church. If you don’t play disc golf, come on out and help with the
cooking.
I hope that you will all attend the monthly meeting which will be held on Tuesday, May
19, 11:30 AM at Azalea City Golf Course. We look forward to seeing you all.
God Bless and keep you all:
Anthony
