Ages: 15 years - Adult 1420 Maple Avenue Evanston, IL 60201 847.475.8580 www.mcgawymca.org/childrenscenter MONDAY - FRIDAY 7am - 6:15pm At the Y, we believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success. That’s why our infant/toddler, preschool, and school age programs are staffed with teachers who understand the cognitive, physical and social development of kids. We respect and nurture your child’s need to feel connected and supported in trying new things. At our center, babies develop trust and security, preschoolers experience early literacy and learn about their environment, and school-age kids make friends, learn new skills, and receive homework assistance. We’re committed to building confident kids today and bright futures tomorrow. INFANT & TODDLER CARE Let’s give them a great start! We think that the building blocks to a happy adulthood begin at the youngest age and we want to make sure that your child gets a chance to build relationships and develop their own personality, so they can grow up to be a secure and well-rounded adult. Our teachers know that children hit their milestones at their own pace, so we encourage each child to develop at their own pace. PRESCHOOL EXPLORERS Exploration and discovery are what the preschool explorers are all about. Children learn about a new topic each month in a setting that encourages them to be curious and explore their own interests. We discover topics around science, art, nature, culture, and more through exploring and projects. FACILITY & PROGRAMS Our center houses two Infant classes, two Toddler classes, six Full-Day Preschool classes, four Part-Day Preschool classes and six School-Age classes. We also have an indoor playroom, 250seat auditorium, large lunch/activity room, arts & crafts room, a library, a computer center, outdoor playgrounds, administrative offices and an on-site enrollment office. In addition, all of our programs use the McGaw YMCA pool, locker rooms and gymnasium for weekly swim and fitness activities as an added value to our curriculum unique only to the McGaw YMCA Children’s Center. FULL DAY PRESCHOOL Our preschoolers discover science, arts, healthy habits, literacy and more! We know how fast children that age develop and that they want to explore everything, and here they can! Preschool at the Y never gets boring, from field trips and swimming lessons, to gym activities, music, and more! PART DAY PRESCHOOL Come explore with us! Here, children get to play, make new friends, and are eased into a preschool setting, which prepares them for kindergarten. Your child will be with the same children and the same teachers every day, so they can easily form relationships and make friends. SCHOOL’S OUT (GRADES K-5) We want to make it easier for working parents. School’s Out provides afternoon care for children from school dismissal until 6:15pm, as well as on days off and on half days. Here, children get homework assistance, so you don’t have to worry about anything when you pick them up! 9 CAMPS - HOLIDAY & SUMMER WINTER BREAK HOLIDAY CAMP SPRING BREAK HOLIDAY CAMP December 22 - 23, 29-31 & January 2 $60/day M, $70/day NM Registration starts Nov. 24, 2014 K-5 Join School’s Out’s Winter Camp for good times, great friends, and warm memories. Tutoring is available in math, reading, English, and study skills. PROJECT SOAR (MENTORING) Project SOAR is our one-on-one mentoring program that aims to create a long-lasting relationship between youth and an adult through regular meetings and outings. Mentors meet one-on-one with youth in the Evanston area for a minimum of one year in order to ensure stability and to enable long-lasting relationships. Together they participate in group activities like bowling, skiing, camping, and sporting events, as well. BRILLIANTEEN THEATRE Brillianteen is gearing up for its annual student-produced musical. Youth Showboard Volunteers lead the complete production of the show, from rehearsals to design and performance. Brillianteen introduces Juniors and Seniors to the experience of live theatre. It allows teens to develop leadership and team working skills, boosts their confidence, and gives them a greater sense of community and social responsibility. LIFEGUARD TRAINING PRETEST The Lifeguard Training Pre-Test qualifies participants ages 15+ to take the lifeguard training course. 18 Y ACHIEVERS At the Y we know how important it is to create confident youth in order to build strong communities. Our Achievers program is geared towards instilling the confidence in high school students that is needed for success in their personal and professional lives once they leave high school and teaches them to be a positive part of the community. In this program adult mentors support participants in pursuing their higher educational and career goal by equipping them with the skills they need to get there and by being approachable and positive role models. PROJECT EMERSON Project Emerson addresses the gap between knowledge and real world exposure. This program invites adults from the community to showcase their expertise – such as filmmaking, architecture, sports, science, and cooking – to our participants in relevant and compelling ways that demonstrate how those skills are applied outside of school. For more information on how to get involved in any of these programs as a participant or volunteer, please contact Sue Sowle at [email protected] POOL & WATERFRONT LIFEGUARD TRAINING This American Red Cross certification course prepares participants for pool and waterfront lifeguarding.
