7th Annual Celebration Dinner & Auction The Historic George Washington Hotel November 21, 2014 Ou Lynn George, Waddler Teacher at Heritage Child Development Center, plays the I Love You Ritual “Round and Round the Garden” with a child. Our Mission – The CHEERS Scholarship Fund “Where Children Know Love, Sense Security, and Embrace Education” CHEERS School Family, Inc. is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization “where children know love, sense security, and embrace education”. We have 3 child development centers serving children ages 6 weeks to 12 years in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and Northern Shenandoah Valley. Heritage Child Development Center and Heritage Clubhouse are in Berryville, VA and Children First Child Development Center is in Kearneysville, WV. Children in our programs spend their days learning, growing, and developing skills they need to be successful people. Programs are academically and socially based with curriculum that meets or exceeds state standards. We strive to serve all families, regardless of their economic status. We accept state-subsidized children and offer scholarships to lower income families only by seeking community donations and conducting community fundraisers. We rely on the generosity of individuals, organizations, and businesses to supplement our revenue, so that we may continue to enroll children from a wide range of economic backgrounds. In 2013, CHEERS provided 18 short or long term scholarships to families in need and served 41 children through the Virginia Department of Social Services or West Virginia’s Mountain Heart Services. Some families may not qualify for assistance due to long waiting lists or their family may just miss the qualifying metrics. Every child deserves the opportunity to acquire a strong academic and social emotional foundation to better prepare them for educational success. The CHEERS Scholarship Fund is our way to increase the access of children from low-income families to high-quality early education programs that prepare children for school. Why Invest in CHEERS School Family? PALS PreK Assessments SY 2013-2014 Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening 21% of enrolled Preschool children received shortterm or long-term tuition assistance from the CHEERS Scholarship Fund. 52% Average Score 48% Above Average Score 43 of 89 children tested scored 56 or higher on the PALS assessment, indicating the strong likelihood of elementary academic success Tuition covers approximately 81% of our operating expenses. The remaining 19% is raised through community donations, sponsorships, and fundraisers. Parent Testimonial “I got pregnant with my twin girls at the age of 17, but luckily I was able to graduate from high school early so I was done with school by the time they were born. As you can imagine, providing for two babies without a job was difficult, as was going to college. I took part-time online classes for a couple years and did a little work at home for my father, but I was extremely limited in what I could do because of the high cost of childcare. With assistance through the Department of Social Services and the CHEERS Scholarship Fund, I was able to afford childcare for my children at a fraction of the cost. This allowed me to take classes in person and get a part-time job, which I never would have been able to do before. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I received that helped my children get a chance to be in a classroom and interact with other kids and that helped me get to further my education and get time out of the house to work and earn some additional money. I think these programs provide a great opportunity for deserving, responsible parents to get on their feet in a way that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that has helped me, and I hope more parents are able to benefit from this wonderful assistance.” ~Katie Steinmetz To learn more about our programs and how you can make a difference in our community, please visit our website www.CHEERSSchoolFamily.org 7th Annual CHEERS School Family Celebration Dinner & Auction Friday, November 21, 2014 YOUR BIDDER NUMBER FOR THE AUCTION IS IN YOUR REGISTRATION PACKET.
