Spotlight
What is your job and how long have you worked with Yokota FSS?
I started my career at the Yujo Community Center in 1994. I have
worked at Marketing for about eight years now.
Describe your typical day on the job.
I work as a graphic artist, designing various artwork including this
Horizons magazine. Our department processes a lot of work orders
every day, and those have never stopped since I started working here.
Since joining FSS, what has been your most rewarding experience?
Fortunately, I’ve experienced winning LeMay Awards both as part of
the Community Center and Marketing teams. Such a fantastic feeling
to be recognized after those hard working days!
What was your first or most interesting job experience?
An official trip to Keystone Colorado for attending the LeMay Award
ceremony in 2009 was one of the greatest memories in my career.
Since some of other FSS facilities also won, we traveled together to the
States as a happy FSS group. Even though it was a trip with the tightest
schedule in my life, it remains the most fun and exciting one for me.
The Best Serving the Best—FSS!
What is something you’ve always wanted to try?
Since I had spent some years in Tennessee for school, I’d like to go
back and live there at least for a while, if I could. Also visiting the States,
to see those great friends I have met in FSS, is something I would love
to do.
SrA Mitchell Adkins
Hometown: Hartford City, IN
What is your job and how long have you worked with Yokota FSS?
I work in the Fitness Assessment Cell and I have been at Yokota AB
for 18 months.
Describe your typical day on the job.
I am part of a team that oversees and administers all Official
Fitness Assessments to Air Force members. In addition to our FAC
responsibilities, we support the rest of the Fitness Center Staff in our
daily duties to include Sports and Special Events programs.
Since joining FSS, what has been your most rewarding experience?
The most rewarding experience for me is to assist people who struggle
with meeting any of the fitness assessment standards by utilizing
the knowledge I gained from courses such as Fitness Fundamentals,
Personal training and current periodicals on fitness and health.
What was your first or most interesting job experience?
My first and most interesting experience is and will always be the
Central Japan Bodybuilding Championships. I have always had an
interest in bodybuilding and weightlifting in general. It was amazing
to be able to assist with and witness everything that goes into putting
on a successful event.

What are your hobbies?
Training and competing in Powerlifting and Strongman, competitive
online gaming, eating and traveling any chance I get.
What is your favorite thing to do or eat at FSS activities?
My favorite place to eat is most definitely the Make-Your-Own-Pizza
night at the Enlisted Club.
What is your hidden talent?
I would have to say it’s my ability to cook; a lot of people seemed to
be surprised by it.

CULTURAL CONNECTION
FAMILY FUN
IN ODAIBA
By Kimberly Hickey
Holiday shopping season is here and with
it, all the stress and chaos that seems to
accompany it. Why not turn it into a family
fun day with a quick day trip to Odaiba?
Odaiba is an artificially made island
located in Tokyo Bay. It is one of only two
areas in the Greater Tokyo Metropolis that
has seashore accessible to Tokyoites. It was
originally built as a defensive measure and
one of the original battery islands can still
be seen. However, Odaiba has now become
a center for amusement and entertainment
and takes approximately 90 minutes to get
there by car from Fussa.
For mom, Odaiba is a shopping mecca.
Venus Fort, Aqua City, and Decks are a
few of the main shopping malls located in
the area. Whether it’s an outlet or a tiny
boutique, there is a store for everyone. Don’t
forget to head over to Diver City to see the
giant Gundam statue in front.
Kids don’t want to shop? Bring them to
Hello Kitty Kawaii Paradise at Venus Fort.
There, children can satisfy their love for the
cute Japanese cartoon character by browsing
through the hundreds of products dedicated
to the Kawaii Kitty and even indulge in
some Hello Kitty pancakes. If your child
is a building block fanatic, head on over to
Legoland where they can enjoy Lego themed
rides and get inspired by a Tokyo cityscape
built entirely of the tiny bricks. Or head
on over to the Daikanransha, a 115 meters
tall Ferris wheel, where the whole family
can enjoy a spectacular view of Tokyo from
the top.
Dads and older kids can get their gaming
fix at Sega Joypolis, an indoor amusement
park. Joypolis offers virtual racecar games,
space missions, roller coaster rides, arcade
games and even a tank inspired bumper car
ride. Is dad a car enthusiast? Stop by Toyota
Megaweb, Toyota’s car theme park where
dad can see current and future Toyota
products and even test-drive a vehicle on
their 2-lap course.
Finally, relax along the Odaiba seaside
park. Swimming is not allowed, however,
families can enjoy wading in the water,
having a picnic and watching the lights
illuminate Rainbow Bridge across the water.
These are just a few of the vast array of
entertainment that Odaiba has to offer and
one day is never enough time to enjoy it all.
