Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
My name is Jon Becker and I am a husband, a father, a grandfather, a
retired ELCA Pastor, and a disciple of our Lord Jesus. My wife and I
moved from Menomonie to Hudson in April so that we would be closer
to our grandchildren in Richfield.
My wife, Sharon, is also retired. She worked in colleges and universities
in Wisconsin, North Dakota, Arizona, and Arkansas as a Director of
Career Services. We are blessed with 4 children and 3 grandchildren.
I have served churches in Wisconsin, North Dakota, Minnesota, Illinois,
and part-time in Arizona and I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of
these congregational families since my ordination in 1971.
My faith, theology, and daily discipleship can best be described in the
words “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”
In retirement, I enjoy visiting with family; reading mystery, science
fiction, and westerns; going for walks; target shooting; supply preaching
and bridge ministry; and taking naps.
But enough about me! I look forward to being a part of your family of
Peace until you call your full time pastor. I am anxious to get to know
you and to be a part of your lives and your congregational life.

As Pastor Wayne retired, he encouraged and
challenged us to “Trust God” in all things and in
all times, but especially in 2014 during this year of
transition, completely trusting that God is with us
and has our future in His hands. Thank God for
Pastor Wayne.
We have trusted that Pastor Valerie was brought to us to assist us during
this transition as our Interim Pastor and she did that bringing new worship
styles, through her sermons and prayers, through her Bible Studies,
through her missionary heart and global awareness, and by urging us to
“Seek God”, first and foremost, as we seek our full time pastor. Thank
God for Pastor Valerie.
We continue to trust God as we welcome our Bridge Pastor, Jon Becker,
and in the ministry he brings to us at this time, and as our newly elected
Call Committee begins their mission this month. Thank God for Pastor Jon
and for those on the Call Committee.
Will you join us in committed daily prayer, seeking God for wisdom
and guidance for our Call Committee and for unity within our church family,
and trusting God will provide the pastor he has prepared just for us at this
time in the life of Peace Lutheran? As we seek and trust, our faithful God
will honor our faithfulness.

With the upcoming holidays, I’ve decided to skip ahead on the Model
for Healthy Living this month to focus on FRIENDS & FAMILY.
November and December are months that usually involve gatherings with
family and/or friends. One’s friends and family are important in both times
or joy and in times of crisis. Stop at the Wellness table between services this
month to explore ideas on how our congregation can better provide comfort and love for one another in times of struggle or celebration.
This month’s tip for communicating with someone who has
Alzheimer’s disease or advanced dementia:
Give visual cues. To help demonstrate the task, point or touch the item you want the individual to use or begin the task for the person.
We are so fortunate to be blessed with the issue of having too many items
in our “loan closet.” If you know of anyone who is need of a shower chair,
walker, raised toilet seat, or bedside commode plan to check out a giveaway display of these items (and many more) between services on Sunday
November 9th. Thank you to all who have donated items in the past toward
this helping ministry!
Once again it’s that time of year for open enrollment of Medicare
Part D prescription drug insurance. If you would like to compare
plans to see if you can save some money, call to make an appointment with
me before Dec. 7th (the deadline for making a change.) If you have more
complicated Medicare inquiries, I would suggest you call the ADRC of
Northwest Wisconsin to make an appointment with one of the benefit
specialists that can walk you through what can be overwhelming paperwork. # 1-877-485-2372.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I GIVE?
Have you ever wondered about how much is appropriate to give to your church?
How much do other people give? How much is needed? How much is my/our “fair
share”?
Below are giving statistics from 2012. Our 2015 proposed budget is $ 428,397.58
and the average amount needed from each giving unit would be $ 1,238. 14. We
currently have 346 giving units listed in our database.
Take a look at who is giving how much, and think about the future of our church.
What is needed to meet our bare-bones 2015 budget? And what more could we do
if we all committed to bless the church to be a blessing in our community and our
world?
A 2015 Pledge form will be mailed the 1st week of November. Please prayerfully
consider what you can give in monetary and/or time to Peace Lutheran. You may
mail your form back or bring it with you to church on Commitment Sunday which
will be Nov. 16th.

Thank you everyone, for your kind words and gifts as you sent me off on October
19. I have treasured the time I have had with you, and you will always have a
special place in my heart. I am finishing my time at Peace with a week of continuing education, in an intensive week on "intentional interim ministry", and I am
learning more that has been developed in recent years concerning the process and
patterns of interim times, and am gaining more tools for future reference. I am
also learning more about myself, and how my strengths and weaknesses work in
the interim process. Thank you for this investment in the ministry of the larger
church! I will do my best to put it to use in the future for other congregations! (And so your ministry of training pastoral workers continues....)
As for you, you continue in the interim process, adapting to another pastor
preaching and leading. Besides Pastor Wayne, you have seen many interns and
their gifts and personalities; I was another, and now you have opportunity to see
Pastor Becker's style, and to prepare your hearts for yet another unique person
with unique gifts and call that God will send to you. I might tease you and ask,
"Oh, are you dating again?" It's like you are having friendships that help you to
move on from a past relationship, and begin to get serious about settling down
with someone again, finding out what you like and what you don't, whether you
are ready to commit, or whether you need to think about this some more! In early
November, Greg Kaufmann will meet with the Call Committee and the serious
business of match-making will begin. As this is a process that requires a great
deal of confidentiality for the sake of the candidates involved, the best way you
can support the process is by continuing in prayer for God's calling and choosing,
until the call committee feels that they have found a pastor who is a good match
for the call at Peace Lutheran Church.
The Scripture that we had in our devotions today is appropriate to encourage you
in this time. In I Corinthians 3:5-7, Paul writes about some feeling loyalty to
Apollos, and some to himself, and he says, "What then is Apollos? What is Paul?
Servants through whom you came to believe, as the Lord assigned to each. I planted, Apollos watered, BUT GOD GIVES THE GROWTH. So neither the one who
plants nor the one who waters is anything, but ONLY GOD who gives the growth."
That is a good reminder that none of us can give growth; we can only give ourselves to be instruments in God's hands. And verse 9, "We are God's servants,
working together; you are God's field, God's building." I know and trust that
God will continue to send his servants to you, to plant, to water, to guide and
shepherd, to help you grow. To God be the glory.

Greetings from Luther Point
November 2014
The starting point for the future of this camp is “right relationship”
with God, neighbor, and God’s creation. As I begin serving you as the
new Executive Director at Luther Point Bible Camp I am grateful to build
upon such a strong foundation laid by Term Director, Jesse Weiss (who completed his term at the end of September) and the other staff who have been
faithful stewards of the resources entrusted to them. I wish to personally
thank Jesse and Kristen (and the staff they hired for summer), for maintaining the highest level of programming and assuring that the campers always
come first! I express the same thanks to Rachael Trittelwitz and Ryan
Hennessey in our camp office for their hospitality, wisdom, and grace in
welcoming me here to be part of this team! BRAVO!
“Forming Faith – Pointing to Christ”
In my first weeks here I have taken time to read evaluations from campers
and retreat guests while also listening to the stories from those at camp this
fall. Please don’t hesitate to contact me or our staff as we plan for 2015 as we
welcome your creative ideas for how we might best serve you. Stay tuned for
more details on our upcoming retreats and new offerings.

Peace Lutheran Youth Ministry Mission Statement:
To be an instrument used by the Holy Spirit to bring youth to faith in Jesus Christ. The strategies by which we accomplish this purpose are: Worship, Service, Learning and Fellowship.

ELCA National Youth Gathering
Detroit, Michigan, July 13-19, 2015
The ELCA National Youth Gathering happens every three years and is a gathering of over 40,000 Lutheran youth from across the US and the world. This is a
great opportunity to spend time with other Lutheran youth worshipping, serving,
studying, and having fun!
The Youth Ministry Team from West Immanuel Church of Osceola has extended
an invitation to Peace youth to participate with them at the 2015 ELCA Youth
Gathering. Here are some details that were given to Peace:
 The Gathering is open to students who will be in grades 9-12 in the fall of
2015 and 2015 high school graduates.
 West Immanuel currently has 7 youth registrations (5 students currently in
8th grade, 1 sophomore and 1 junior).
 Pastor Rex and Stephanie Lechman will be the adults going with on the
trip. The ELCA asks that we have 1 adult for 10 youth. We won’t need an
additional adult unless we reach beyond 20 participants.
 At this point we are planning to make use of the transportation through the
synod. We would depart on Monday, July 13th (time yet to be determined)
and will return home late on Sunday, July 19th. If we have more participants
it might be a better decision (financially) to use another option.
 Cost is $325 registration fee. Each youth is also responsible to raise another
$250 in sponsorships.

Let Christ’s Light Shine!
Share His Incredible News Everywhere!
In November we will be shining on
Our men & women serving in the military.
We will be sending care packages to the troops who are being deployed to
Liberia. Members of our military have been tasked to assist in the effort to
treat people who have been infected with the Ebola virus. This assignment
will not be an easy one or one most troops, airmen, sailors, or Marines will
welcome. However, it is their duty when asked.
While in Liberia, they will build roads, tent hospitals, and other small
structures. Comfort items will not be readily available. We are asking
members of peace to fill the military boxes as we did for combat troops in
the past. They will need the same items we have sent before as there will
be no immediate stores, etc.
There are military boxes in the Narthex for you to take home and fill and
return by Nov. 30th. It will cost approximately $17 per box to ship them.
Monetary donations are welcome to offset the cost of shipping and the Noisy
Offering on Nov. 9th will be used for shipping of the boxes-be generous!
Women’s Event - Lunch & Lefse
Join us on Sunday, November 9th, noon—3:00 pm as we gather
together for lunch, laughs and lefse! If you’ve wanted to learn how to make
lefse-this is for you. The potatoes will have to be made the day before so the
recipe is located at the Welcome Center along with the sign up sheet.
Please bring your potatoes made according to the recipe provided (or if you
have a favorite recipe please use that) and 2 sandwiches. We will serve the
assortment of sandwiches for lunch.
We are in need of lefsa rollers (are usually grooved), covered pastry boards,
long wooden stick turners and flour sack towels.

is about a dad who discovers the true
spirit of Christmas. Free will donation.
On Nov. 14th, Ida Mae’s Café in Amery
is donating 10% of their proceeds to
the Salvation Army-Breakfast, Lunch
or Supper.
BINGO at Good Samaritan Center

spend an hour or so playing BINGO
with the residents of Good Sam. For

Lutefisk Meal Delivered!
West Immanuel’s Lutefisk Dinner is
Saturday, November 8th. The youth
from West Immanuel are offering a
new option for homebound individuals
this year. For $12, homebound individuals can have a Norwegian meal
delivered to their home. The meal
consists of lutefisk, meatballs, lefse,
potatoes, rutabagas, coleslaw, cranberries and pie. Call 715-294-2936
to place your order. Meals will be
delivered to your home on November
8th between 2pm-4pm.

the residents at Serenity Home!
They were so excited to get some
“new” winter clothing items. Thank
you to Maxine Spiess for delivering
the clothing for us!
Ham Dinner Thank You!
Sat. Oct. 4th was the PLC Harvest Dinner and we served approximately 257
people. Although our numbers were down it was nice to see Peace members
and families from the community enjoy a great ham dinner and fellowship
together!
A special THANKS to: Marilyn Tretsven & Janice Johnson for putting the
squash and green beans in roasters; Bev Kobs for making the coleslaw and
helping all evening too; Bob & Connie Clark for delivering the hams and putting them into roasters; Don & Jean Dehmer for overseeing the serving line
table, Craig, Pam & Brianna Brunclik for overseeing the Take-out area; Diane
Martell & the Ekstrom family for setting up F. Hall; Steve & Karrie Swenson,
Tim Swenson & Maxine Spiess for delivering and picking up potatoes; Lori
Getschel for overseeing the kitchen area; Heidi Schrock & Marge Shores for
hostessing.
Our hams were purchased from Swank’s, the potatoes from Dick’s Market,
green beans and beets donated by Chris Chinander, milk and butter were
donated by Rod Peterson of Centuria.
Many more people helped on various shifts serving, cleaning, washing dishes,
bussing tables, cutting ham and more. Others baked applecrisps or potatoes
at their home or came in the night before to wash and wrap potatoes and
wrap the silverware. Many gave monetary donations to offset the cost of the
food. Proceeds from the dinner will be used to purchase Bibles for our Pre-k
and 3rd grade students and be given to our benevolences.
