Document 438464

Congratulations! I am pleased to inform you that, based on the strength of your application and your band director's recommendation, you have been invited to the 5th Annual Jaguar Marching Honor Band. Over 700 students applied to this event, so it's a big honor to be invited to our campus! The Jaguar Marching Honor Band will take place on the campus of the University of South Alabama on Saturday, November 15, 2014. The online registration page included in your acceptance email contains PDFs of music and other important documents. It is important that you and your family fill out these documents and return them, with your $40 registration fee, to the address listed above immediately. The postmark deadline to return your registration and payment is Monday, November 10, 2014. Checks should be made out to “USA Jaguar Marching Band.” Important Notes for All Participants ● Gulf Coast weather can be challenging. Please dress in layers, bring a jacket or sweatshirt, preferably something resistant to rain and moisture. ● Do not wear any other college or university’s gear (shirts, hats, etc) to the Jaguar Marching Honor Band. You will be representing the University of South Alabama! ● ALL STUDENTS, no matter what, must depart on the buses after halftime. There will be no exceptions. All student participants will be driven on the charter buses back to the University of South Alabama campus and released to their parents/guardians. For reasons of safety and logistics, this is required of all participants. Thank you! Winds and Percussionists It's important that you start working on the music in this packet immediately. Practice recordings for your reference are posted online at www.jaguarmarchingband.org. We will rehearse together on Saturday morning for approximately an hour and a half. That's time for us to work out some kinks in the music, and to discuss phrasing and other advanced ideas. It's not a time for us to address wrong notes and rhythms. And keep in mind that we're playing music in the stands too, not just on the field! You must bring your instrument to the honor band. In rare and limited cases, such as large wind instruments that cannot be transported, we may be able to assist with a loaner instrument if you call (251) 4606136 prior to November 8th. However, we strongly urge you to arrange bringing your own instrument. No percussion equipment will be provided. Color Guard and Feature Twirlers You should begin learning the routines in advance by watching the videos posted online at www.jaguarmarchingband.org. We will only have a few hours together before the performance, and we need to spend that time cleaning, not teaching from scratch. Do not bring your own flag. Color Guard will be provided with equipment so that everyone is using a matching pole length and weight. Feature Twirlers should plan on bringing their own batons. We will have an honor band tshirt ready for you, along with a catered lunch, snacks and drinks in the stands, and a festival medal. You're going to spend the day experiencing life as a Jaguar Marching Band member, and you'll be interacting with our students, faculty, and staff. We're very excited to have you on board! We urge you to read all of this packet carefully before filling it out and returning it to us as soon as possible! We look forward to seeing you on our campus! GO JAGS! William H.
