HOOK LINE & SINKER
From the President’s Pole
Greetings everyone, I just got back from our Fall Lake Cuyamaca trip and
had a great time with everyone. We experienced wonderful weather, had
some delicious dinners, and enjoyed evening campfires together. Yes, we
are following the tradition of what happens in Cuyamaca, stays in
Cuyamaca. You will have to join us next time to find out all the “dirt.”

The fishing did not produce a ton of trout. However, there were some nice
sized ones caught to grace the dinner plate, just ask Cheryl Brandstrom!!
Thanks again to Betty and Larry Allen and Carmen and Tomas Martinez for all their efforts.
Veterans Day is on November 11th. Please take a moment at our meeting to
thank all our members who served in the military services.
The club Turkey Fry and White Elephant Sale is on November 12 th at Carmen and Tomas Martinez’s home. The sale is a great fund raiser for our
club. Please call Carmen and Tomas Martinez (760) 724-6413 or
Marge and Gene Lovelady (760) 549-0933 to arrange the transfer of
your “valuables” before the sale. We also need some help on the 11 th to sort
and price the items.
Our Fall Season is fast approaching with seasonal changes in our fishing.
The saltwater species are slowly starting their southern migratory movement as our local waters begin to cool. However, there are plenty of fish
waiting for you. The Sunday, October 26th fishing results indicate the yellowtail and tuna are still around. This is a great time to get your fresh water
gear in shape. The local lakes will be stocking as soon as the water temperature cools down,
November is approaching with a variety of club activities. In addition to the
Turkey Fry, we have the Bake Sale (November 14th), Lake Hemet Campout
(November 16th -21st), Awards Banquet (December 3) and Viejas Bus trip, a
club fund raiser (December 10th).
Please sign up for these great activities to have a pleasurable time
with your friends!!!

FRESH WATER
June Lake Outing (Sept. 21 to 28, 2014)
Nineteen units were in attendance at June Lake this year, including a number of new
members A couple of members enjoyed rental campers. Thanks to John and Linda Perdue who did
an outstanding job assuming the duties of Gene and Marge Lovelady as Wagon Masters.
The first 4 days …perfect weather, 5th & 6th windy, 7th snow. Surrounding mountain tops were dusted
with snow.
Fishing for the week was above average. Half of the anglers caught limits each day. Daily winners included
Warren Estes, Warren Estes, Larry Allen, Larry
Jauert, Larry Jauert and Warren Estes. Warren had
big fish for the week..3lbs and 15 oz.
Daily walks included the June Lake area, a hike into the
gorgeous Parker Lake, and 11 walkers hit the trail (about
4 miles) for fresh Cinnamon Rolls at the local Shell
station.
Sewing projects included Lap Quilts for distribution within the Senior Center. In the afternoons many
campers and fisherman played board games and poker.
Many deer patrolled the campground. One camper had an experience when a
bear opened the front window of the camper to help himself to a bag of dog
food. Not to mention names, but Cheryl would be happy to share that story.
With you.
Campfires, stories and fellowship were enjoyed by all.

Trout Derby Postponed
An unfortunate condition has made it necessary to postpone the Escondido Trout Derby. For the trout
to survive the water temperature in the lake must be well below 70 degrees. As of Thursday the 30th of
October the water temperature of Lake Dixon is over 76 degrees. With the stocking date scheduled for
November the 5th or 6th there is not enough time for the lakes water to drop to a safe level for trout to
survive. So the city had no choice but to postpone the derby. The reschedule dates will be determined
when the water is a healthy temperature for trout.
All the volunteers who signed up to help in the trout derby have been called and notified of the postponement of this years event. First of all I want to thank you for volunteering to help.
When the city determines when the derby will be held, you will be notified and hopefully you’ll still be
able to help with the weighing and/or the Kiddy Pond. We appreciate your patience and cooperation and
will let you know as soon as possible of the new dates. If you have planned on bringing any youngsters
to the Kiddy Pond or informed anyone about this event, please let them know of this postponement.
Thanks a bunch and you all have a great November. Hope to see you at the next meeting.
