TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2014 W H AT ’ S O N NBK Capital co-organizes blood donation day to support Kuwait’s Central Blood Bank I n partnership with Kuwait Central Blood Bank, NBK Capital organized Blood Donation Day at its offices in Arraya Tower II. This initiative is part of the investment firm’s corporate commitment to support community initiatives to help save lives and endorse good health practices among its staff. NBK Capital employees gathered at the special donation center, set up by Kuwait Central Blood Bank professional medical team and staff, to donate blood and help save the lives of others. Blood donations during the day were added to the blood bank’s reserves to support its blood drive initiatives. The medical team also communicated important messages to donors about the importance of regular blood donation and its safe process. “NBK Capital believes in the importance of not only being part of the business community, but also giving back to Kuwait’s society whenever possible”, said Salah Al-Fulaij, CEO of NBK Capital. Dr Marcia Denny represents KILAW in International Law Weekend 2014 D FIMA donates to Kashmir relief fund F ederation of Indian Muslims Associations (FIMA), the coordination council of Indian Muslim associations working in Kuwait, donated a sum of three hundred and twenty five thousand rupees (Rs. 3,25,000/) to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund in support of the relief operations in Jammu & Kashmir for those affected by the recent devastating floods in the valley. The fund was handed over to the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, Sunil Jain, by the FIMA delegation led by President Siddeeque Valiyakath. The other members of the delegation included FIMA’s Vice President Sayed Ifthekhar Ahmed, Secretary General Hidayathullah, Joint Secretary Abdulrazak Alwane, Treasurer Salim Desai and Joint Treasurer Mohammed Manshauddin. The delegation also discussed important issues pertaining to the Indian community with the ambassador including the condition of domestic workers in the state and the problems of NRI students among others. The ambassador expressed knowledge of these problems and noted that he is trying his best to seek remedies. Towards that end he had raised the issues with the Farwaniya Governor Sheikh Faisal Humoud Al Sabah during their recent meeting. Further, the ambassador evinced keen interest regarding the issue of NRI students’ fees and asked for details in order to take the matter to the concerned authorities in the central government r Marcia Denny, Assistant Professor of International Law at Kuwait International Law School, attended the International Law Weekend 2014 held October 24th and 25th at Fordham Law School in New York City. The conference was jointly sponsored by the International Law Students’ Association and the American Branch of the International Law Association of which Ms Denny is a member. In addition, Ms Denny, a coach for the KILAW Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Team, attended sessions both relevant to current issues in international law and to this Dr Marcia Denny year’s Jessup competition problem involving self-determination, secession and non-intervention in the time of Crimea and Kosovo and balancing territorial integrity and self-determination under international law. Presenters included expert practitioners in international law and United Nations officials as well as practicing lawyers and esteemed professors. Arpan Kuwait presents Raag ‘n’ Rachna A rpan Kuwait is presenting a unique blend of art and music this Friday at the Indian embassy auditorium. The program, titled Raag ‘n’ Rachna will feature mandolin Maestro UP Raju and the inimitable speed cartoonist Jitheshji with his stage show. The program starts at 6pm and gate opens at 5 pm. MANDOLIN ARTIST UP RAJU: A freelance mandolin maestro, UP Raju has been performing in various sabhas of Chennai and other major cities of India for different festivals for more than two decades. He is also training many students in mandolin, which includes online classes for the students in Canada, USA, and Switzerland. Raju has extensively performed around the globe. He has also achieved name and fame through his solo/ duo audio cds and cassettes. Raju and his wife Nagamani together form a formidable mandolin duo. CARTOONIST - Adv S Jithesh: On the occasion of Children’s day, Arpan Kuwait is happy to present the speed cartoonist Jitheshji. Infotainment - education through entertainment is the buzz word of Jiteshji. His cartoon stage show is a blend of poetry, anecdotes and sociopolitical satire with high speed drawing. As a performing Jithesh has initiated and developed this art genre. The mode of presentation of this one hour show is very captivating and enchanting while drawing hundreds of celebrity caricatures on stage with a lightning pace and satirical commentary in order to create a new sensibility. Now, this art genre is onto 2,000 stages since its launching in 2008. Jitheshji has also performed a record speed of sketching 50 celebrities within 5 minutes in 2008.
