FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cape Regional Medical Center Excels in Patient Safety – Awarded
an “A” Hospital Safety Score for Fall, 2014
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – November 12, 2014 – Cape Regional Medical Center was
honored with an “A” grade in the Fall, 2014 update to the Hospital Safety Score which rates how
well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The Hospital Safety
Score uses national performance measures from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, the Agency for
Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC), and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to produce a single score
representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and
medical errors.
“Cape Regional Medical Center is dedicated to providing the highest level of patient
safety and quality,” stated Joanne Carrocino, FACHE, President and CEO. “Receiving an ‘A’
rating by the Leapfrog Group is confirmation that our entire organization’s commitment to
achieving the highest possible levels of patient safety and quality outcomes. Congratulations to
our entire team of physicians and staff for creating a culture of patient safety and quality in all
that we do.”
The survey incorporates outcome results such as readmissions, length of stay, infections,
core measures and HCAHPS. The Leapfrog Group assigns A, B, C, D and F scores nationwide
based on an organization’s ability to prevent errors, injuries and infections. Of the 2,522
hospitals issued a Hospital Safety Score, 804 hospitals earned an “A” rating. The Hospital Safety
Score is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and available to
the public at www.hospitalsafetyscore.org.
