Knocked out of the FA cup (albeit after
extra time in a replay against the top
club in the competition) and 5 successive
defeats saw us plunge down the table.
We sacked the bus driver and promptly
beat the team in 2nd spot (Barrow) in a
fantastic game then drew away against
a very difficult team (Hednesford).
It sometimes feels as though we are
in a roadrunner cartoon. For those
unfamiliar with it, the plot is that
Wil E Coyotee is a coyote who lives in
the middle of the desert and apparently
his only source of food is a roadrunner,
a flightless bird who is very quick which
makes Wil E’s job very difficult.
Wil E is a trier and comes up with
bizarre and ingenious ways to catch
the roadrunner. Many of these cunning
plans involve obtaining specialist items
from the ACME company.
It’s a strange relationship as
A) How on earth does he get his order through to ACME?
B) Where do they deliver it?
C) How on earth does he pay for it as he is a coyote with no obvious signs
of income and
D) If he can do all of the above
why doesn’t he simply go to his
nearest McDonalds?
But let’s ignore these flaws in the plot,
some of his attempts to catch the
roadrunner are verging on genius,
however, despite testing everything
successfully in his practice runs,
nothing actually works when the
roadrunner appears and generally
backfires on our hero!
It’s been a bit like that for Avenue this
season. We brought in some excellent
players but were hit by a glut of long term
injuries to some of our best players, but
despite all the trials and tribulations and
a relatively low league
position, we are still not
out of touch with the teams
currently in the play off positions.

Pastures new...
Our assistant manager, Mark Hume,
decided to leave the club to pursue his
management ambitions during October. We
would like to thank Mark for his hard work
and dedication during the 5 years he was
at the club. He enjoyed a largely successful
period at the club, reaching the first round
of the FA cup twice, but
the highlight was the Evo Stik play off final
victory against FC United.
Appointments
We have appointed Martin Drury as the
assistant manager and Jamie Price has
also joined the coaching staff. Martin
is our longest serving player, joining
in 2008 and we wish both well in
their new positions.
Avenue have also appointed
Joe Cockburn as our new Press Officer.
Joe is studying Sports Journalism at
Leeds Trinity University. A local lad,
hailing from Queensbury, he has a keen
interest in football, regularly visiting
nearby Halifax Town and Bradford City
as well as the Avenue over the years.
He has shown a keen interest in writing
for some time, last year being short listed
for the best new blog award at the
Football Blogging Awards for his
‘Sat In the Crowd’ blog.
