The current prototype is addressing the modelling of components shape (photovoltaic (PV)-modules geometry) also including the topography of the area for the PV plant to be build. The requested partner has to be able to create/develop a customized front-end system for the final simulation modelling software product. Creation Date Last Update Reference 23 October 2014 28 October 2014 RDDE20141023001 Details Description The project deals with the enhanced modelling and simulation of complex PV-component design and integration of these PV-components into real PV-plants built on complex terrain. The required expertise of the requested partner is to bring the available back- end software prototype into life by providing a customized front-end system. The innovation project shall start in April 2015 and end in 2017 (project duration: 24 months). The consortium mainly consists of German institutions (R&D, SME, other) and a Belgian R&D organisation. These partners will develop the available prototype into a marketable software. The innovation project will be submitted in the frame of KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community) InnoEnergy, which is mainly financed by the EIT (European Institute for Innovation and Technology). The deadline for the submission of the innovation project is the 20th of November 2014. Deadline for EoIs is the 7th of November 2014. Advantages and Innovations Currently complex terrain and especially non-arable land (due to complex shape) is not often used for PV-power-plants due to non-existent modeling solutions. In addition, a complex shape/construction of the PV-panel itself is not feasible so far. Thus PV-projects usually highly depend on the topography as well as the radiance intensity. Common simulation systems work with hourly (60 minutes) time steps on planar (2D) models of the site. Within this 2-years project an advanced design optimization and performance prediction software will be developed. The new software system has the capability to deal and support advanced modeling of PV-Systems mainly including the following innovations: • arbitrary fine time steps (5/15 minutes) calculation in the solution process, • modelling of real 3D site topographies, • modelling of complex geometrical shapes, moving planes (trackers) and flexible electrical switching of components, Ref: RDDE20141023001 Page 1 of 80 Printed: 18 November 2014 • extended models for shading effects on diffuse and direct irradiation components • improved heat transfer with integrated temperature modelling Technical Specification or Expertise Sought The developed product will be an advanced simulation modelling tool for the photovoltaic industry. The current prototype requires further development in order to offer fast and efficient calculation and validation of measured data. This expertice is already covered by the current consortium. The technical expertise sought is the development of a front-end system for the developed and final software. This will enable a simple use of the software for the cutomer. The customers are mainly involved in the PV-plant construction, PV-modules manufacturing and PVproject development. Stage of Development Proposal under development Comments Regarding Stage of Development Current TRL is 5. TRL 9 shall be achieved during the project as KIC InnoEnergy Innovation projects aim to have a marketable product or service at the end of the project. The partners sought are SMEs with synergetic technologies in the smart transportation field: software application development (bus, public). Creation Date Last Update Reference 21 October 2014 29 October 2014 RDES20141021001 Details Description SIADE is a GIS-based decision support system for public transportation planning. It facilitates the process to improve efficiency in public transportation, with a special emphasis in social and economical parameters. Implementing a strategy to manage urban transportation involves several mathematical models allowing transportation network analysis and estimating their impact in both the environment and the users, while defining automatic procedures to compare different scenarios. Its main goal is to facilitate planning and managing transportation networks. Data are stored in the bus memory unit and sent to the server every day to update the database. Information from each user is captured very fast and can be easily processed, but there is a limitation: users pay with their card when entering the bus, but no information is available about when they leave it. As a result, there is no information regarding the destination of each trip. A high quality matrix of origin-destination data is a fundamental requisite to analyze a transportation system, being surveys the traditional methodology applied, but the process is expensive and difficult to implement. Fortunately, SIADE infers the destination, with a percentage of total inferred trips of up to 88%. It is possible to detect clusters showing different activities: individuals with a regular work schedule (with and without transfer schemes), people with short stays at destination, etc. It is important to remark that mobility patterns can be also studied depending on age, economical situation, disability, etc. For buses using GPS, the arrival time to each bus stop is recorded in the database, so it is possible to analyze travel time versus scheduled time. For companies not using GPS, route performance can be inferred from the ADC system. Interpolation procedures (i.e. IDW) are used by SIADE to generate spatial variations in data. Next step is to create performance reports that may allow bus companies understand where and why are delays, facilitating efficient planning of routes. It also provides passengers information regarding a more precise schedule. Ref: RDES20141021001 Page 5 of 80 Printed: 18 November 2014 Funding Programme: H2020. The company is looking for partners to further develop the project. Creation Date Last Update Reference 03 November 2014 13 November 2014 RDTR20141021001 Details Description Hydrogen as an energy carrier has been leading contender in our quest for clean energy. Multitude of research is being carried out in this field focusing on various stages of “Hydrogen economy”. The biggest challenge to make Hydrogen a commercially viable alternative to fossil fuels is to "cost-effectively" deliver it to the end consumer. Huge inefficiencies in transport, distribution and storage of Hydrogen currently make it non cost competitive. This innovative Hydrogen production system, wants to change the status quo by producing Hydrogen on-board with variable flow to match application’s demand. This effectively eliminates the most inefficient parts of the Hydrogen economy (mentioned above) and brings down the price point of Hydrogen. This new product generates Hydrogen through Boron Hydrolysis thermo-chemical reaction. The novelty of the reaction is in its simplicity: full particle conversion & 100% pure Hydrogen production without use of any catalysts. Moreover the reaction kinetics is fast with 40% conversion happening in first 100 seconds. The rate for Hydrogen production is easily controllable through 3 parameters allowing for fine tuning. By-products of the reaction are fully recyclable albeit at higher temperature. A working prototype has been built as proof-of-concept to demonstrate reactions capabilities. Improvement possibilities have been identified and correct partners are being sought to collaborate to finalize development of the product. They are seeking partners one of which shall be coordinator to further develop and this product via a research cooperation agreement. They are seeking a range of academic and industrial partners, including a consortium lead, to co-develop and pilot the tool and products. The deadline for expressions of interest in this profile is 7 November 2014 and the deadline for the call is 4 February 2015. Creation Date Last Update Reference 29 October 2014 11 November 2014 RDUK20141029001 Details Description The European built environment is responsible for more than a third of greenhouse gas emissions in Europe, with targets to reduce CO2 emissions by 80% and energy consumption by 50% by 2050. In order to achieve these challenging targets, it is necessary to develop innovative, affordable, breakthrough solutions, both at an individual building and district scale that address the energy performance of existing buildings - in addition to building new, lower carbon housing stock. Although a number of tools and techniques are currently available and landlords with large property portfolios are ideally positioned to achieve district-scale improvements to building energy performance, opportunities to do so are often overlooked due to limited time and financial resources in addition to information and skills bottlenecks. This project seeks to develop and pioneer a new, innovative approach to delivering wholehouse, deep energy efficiency retrofit. Conventionally, whole-house retrofit involves the installation of multiple energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies in a property over a compressed time period, involving large initial financial outlay and significant disruption to occupants. The consortium aims to develop a tool that will enable whole-house, deep energy efficiency retrofit to be delivered incrementally over a longer time period, in tandem with existing maintenance and repair processes. This will streamline the retrofitting process, lifting upfront financial barriers and supporting ‘cost optimal' and effective solutions. Utilisation of this tool will ensure that opportunities to improve energy efficiency during the course of routine operations are not missed. It will also have a positive impact on occupants, who will be exposed to less disruption and who will receive benefits in terms of increased comfort and reduced energy consumption. The project will focus on developing and piloting this tool. The tool will identify opportunities to Ref: RDUK20141029001 Page 44 of 80 Printed: 18 November 2014 combine energy efficiency retrofit with asset management and signpost to appropriate materials, methods and financing opportunities with the intention of delivering a 60% reduction in energy consumption and a return on investment of 7 years or less. It will be piloted with social and private sector landlords with large property portfolios in several European countries, targeting ‘hard to treat' older properties (including historic homes) with solid walls, utilising innovative retrofit products and processes. The project will also tackle information and skills bottlenecks in the housing and construction sector and support the development of competences around energy efficiency retrofit. The project has been developed by a steering group of five organisations. They are expected to apply for up to €7 million and envisage that the project will run for 3-4 years. While the deadline for the call is 4 February 2015, the deadline for expressions of interest in this profile is 7 November 2014. Consortium partners are sought based in a range of European countries with an interest in contributing to or leading on specific work packages, specifically but not necessarily limited to: • A lead partner to take on overall project management, based in or near Brussels, with good relationships with the Commission and experience of successfully managing other European projects, especially on energy efficiency • An IT company that is an SME with R&D capacity and that has prior, demonstrable experience of successful software development • Academic partners with expertise in quantitative engagement with data relating to building energy performance • Private and public sector landlords with large property portfolios containing significant quantities of older, energy inefficient properties, with established planned maintenance programmes, willing to share the detail of these and willing to allow the piloting of the tool and retrofit products and processes in a sample of these properties. Smart data framework: a framework for sematic big data analytics Summary A Spanish research team is preparing a proposal within the topic "ICT 16a-2015: Big data – Research & Innovation Actions". The proposed action aims at developing a computational framework for the generation of algorithmic components and workflows, which support the generation of new processing blocks with emerging technologies. They´re seeking a business partner with a big data analytics problem to test the developed framework by refactoring the business case using results of the project. Creation Date Last Update Reference 24 October 2014 03 November 2014 RDES20140716001 Details Description Nowadays, advancements in big data analytics offer cost-effective opportunities to improve decision-making in critical development areas such as health care, employment, economic productivity, crime fighting, security, natural disaster prevention, and resource management. Most of information saved in industry and academic are featured by following unstructured models. In fact, more than 80% of all potentially useful business information is unstructured data, such as: sensor readings, process traces, web tracking, and console logs. In this regard, retrieval and extraction of the information are essential tasks in current applications, and the large number and complexity of unstructured data opens up many new possibilities for the analyst. In this scenario, Semantic Web and ontologies are powerful tools to structure and manage information from which analysis algorithms would take advantage. However, the number of existing software packages that provides the experts with canonical algorithms for the big data management and analysis is still limited. In addition, algorithms in these frameworks are designed to work separately for specific tasks, and even for specific domains (e. g. PageRank), without giving cue to work in coordination to face new emerging and most challenging tasks. The proposed action aims at developing a computational framework for the generation of algorithmic components and workflows, which support the generation of new processing blocks with emerging functionalities. The application of semantics to the algorithmic composition is an actual challenge nowadays, which will provide the proposed framework with composition meaning and consistent design. The motivation of this action is to develop a computational framework able of using semantics in Ref: RDES20140716001 Page 51 of 80 Printed: 18 November 2014 two levels: algorithmic level, by using metadata from the framework design, and case of study level, by using metadata from the application domain, thus providing the whole framework with comprehensive and intelligent mechanism to construct Smart Data for further applications. The idea is to develop a nanomaterial similar to PCM material (phase changed material) but with much better characteristics. This emerging material would represent a great compound for energy efficient construction. An SME is sought to complete the consortium which will test the material and which is also interested in exploiting it commercially. Creation Date Last Update Reference 06 November 2014 13 November 2014 RDDE20141106001 Details Description The German company aims at developing a new material that would make temperature regulation systems for buildings more sustainable and smarter. Today PCM is used as a material to keep the temperature constant in a building once the temperature exceeds a special value. Nowadays, the phase change between liquid and solid of paraffin is used. The liquid state poses a problem though because the material has to be kept in an envelope of plastic. The diameter of the plastic particles is only about 10 µm. The project idea of the company tries to tackle this problem by developing a nanomaterial which has weak chemical bonds in its structure. These chemical bonds open or close once the temperature increases or decreases so that a part of the energy is used to change the bonds and not the temperature. This material doesn't change its state and can be therefore mixed with concrete or plaster. Thus the emerging material would represent a great material for a smart temperature regulation in buildings. The deadline for project submission is march 26, 2015. It comprises a combination of a saddle pad and belt to be used in conjunction with a balance cushion. Balance cushions are standard products (with variations depending on size/material/thickness) which can be purchased in orthopaedic shops. However, a balance cushion of a specific size and shape made of soft PVC is required for use with the saddle pad and belt. Production partners for this balance cushion are sought. Creation Date Last Update Expiration Date Reference 15 October 2014 27 October 2014 27 October 2015 TRAT20141014001 Details Description The Austrian SME is active in the area of training and coaching with a particular emphasis on human-horse interactions and equine-facilitated learning. Experience in coaching seminars and sessions with horses led to the idea of an innovative balance pad to be used on horseback in combination with a special balance cushion. The newly designed product is an air filled balance cushion which will be available in different shapes and sizes - colour coding can be used to distinguish sizes and shapes from each other. The cushion will be integrated into the specially designed riding pad and will be used for: 1. hippotherapy - to improve mobility and to strengthen small muscles; 2. horse riding - to promote good seated posture and to improve balance; 3. horse training - to relax the muscles of the horse's back. Two prototypes have already been produced incorporating the most important features of the balance pads. One prototype has been put through the testing sequence with positive results, revealing that all key functionality is present to achieve the product features listed above. A partner is sought to mass produce the circular balance cushion in two different sizes. The cushion has soft nubs on one side and a smooth surface on the other. The cushion itself is relatively flat with an overall thickness of approximately 2.5 cm. The partner should also be in a position to produce the balance cushion in a heart-shaped format (for different sized horses). For this format also, two different sizes are required. While balance cushions in different shapes are already available on the market and the production expertise already exists, there is no such heart-shaped cushion currently available (see illustrations). In addition, the PVC material used should be very soft, in order to adjust to Ref: TRAT20141014001 Page 63 of 80 Printed: 18 November 2014 the horse's back and to protect the rider's body. Patent searches have revealed that this innovative balance cushion is a new product not currently on the market. The plan would be to launch the product in Austria in 2015 and later that year to expand further initially into the European market and thereafter into Asia and the US in 2016/2017. Production will need to be capable of upscaling according to market expansion. The ideal partner needs to be able to produce the two balance cushions (circular and heartshaped) in the desired shapes, sizes and materials. In addition, the partner should be in a position to produce a prototype of the heart-shaped balance cushion. Production of the corresponding pump should also be performed by the partner. While the main focus is currently on finding a production partner for the balance cushion, the SME is also interested in hearing from saddle producers who are capable of producing the riding pad into which the balance cushion will be integrated. The Austrian SME's preference is to work with European production partners. Licensing partners for the innovation are also sought, in addition to partners who are interested in working with the SME to further develop this technology. Technical Specification or Expertise Sought For the circular and heart-shaped balance cushions: • Diameter 37cm and 39cm • Height max. 2.5 cm incl. nubs • Load-bearing capacity up to 120 kg • Soft PVC • Seamless border • Pump valve should be situated on the side profile of the cushion • Pump production also required • No colour preference - any two different colours to distinguish the different sizes of the cushion • Quantity: 100 units Stage of Development Field tested/evaluated IPR Status Patent(s) applied for but not yet granted Keywords Technology 002002020 002003005 002007009 011008 011010 Moulding, injection moulding, sintering Prototypes, trials and pilot schemes Materials Handling Technology (solids, fluids, gases) Sports and Leisure Creative products Market 005008001 005008003 Ref: TRAT20141014001 Patient rehabilitation & training Cognitive aid Page 64 of 80 Printed: 18 November 2014 007001005 007001008 007004010 Sport facilities (gyms and clubs) Other leisure and recreational products and services Other consumer products NACE P.85.5.9 Q.86.9.0 R.93.1.9 Other education n.e.c. These techniques would be used in lightweight alloys and copper alloys. Technical and commercial cooperation with academia and/or industrial companies is sought. Creation Date Last Update Expiration Date Reference 15 October 2014 27 October 2014 27 October 2015 TRES20141014002 Details Description The group, based near Barcelona, with wide experience in the research on the field of semisolid manufacturing, having worked with various techniques such as New Rheocasting (NRC), Sub-Liquidus Casting (SLC) and Semisolid Rheocasting (SSR), is developing new technologies to obtain structures suitable for these processes. It has developed its own methodologies for the design of die cast moulds for these technologies, several of them having industrialized. Aluminium casting alloys are widely used in the automotive industry because of their good specific mechanical properties. From these alloys, the research group produces components by Semisolid Metal processing (SSM), with good surface finish and practically free of porosity. The group is interested in technological cooperation agreements. Creation Date Last Update Expiration Date Reference 31 October 2013 05 November 2014 24 May 2015 TRIT20131025001 Details Description Decision Support Systems are founded on the well-known field of Artificial intelligence called Machine Learning where SVM (Support Vector Machine) and RVM (Relevance Vector Machine) are the most intriguing examples. The main insight is that systems based on these cutting-the-edge technologies could be deployed widely where high throughput pattern recognition on images is relevant to product profiling. The drawback refers to the need of deploying high computational power into small factor layouts in order to run massively in industrial environments. A typical integration requires to embed those technologies inside the product layout where power consumption and low cost are main targets. The main objective of the appliance is to run image recognition algorithms for sorting products (tiles, waste, fruit, bolts, etc.), that can be integrated efficiently in production processes and especially in automated quality control systems. The electronic disposal (size around the one of a mobile phone), will run an independent system made of hardware, camera for image acquisition, I/O doors for data treatment or control and software to be run on. Technologies allow optimum space allocation, low consumption, cost effective and modular system according to the computation requirements and without investing in proprietary computing infrastructure, sometimes of considerable size and price. Although System on a Chip (SoC) based on ARM architecture, are currently widely adopted in mobile devices, machine learning based pattern recognition algorithms are not available at industrial level on these platforms. The integration would allow to introduce image recognition at industrial level in automated quality control, in any industrial field. Ref: TRIT20131025001 Page 1 of 3 Printed: 18 November 2014 Technical Specification or Expertise Sought The system needs to be integrated and adapted within automated quality control systems in industrial processes, where detection of visible defects (or other analysis), may be relevant and allow faster quality control.
