Incorrect Date Released For Scrimmage
An incorrect date was released in the November 19 West Holmes Knights Wrestling Newsletter for the West
Holmes High School wrestling scrimmage at Indian Valley High School in Gnadenhutten, Ohio.
The 10-team scrimmage will take place Saturday, November 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon.
It was erroneously reported the date of the scrimmage was November 29.

Practice Started For 2014 – 2015 Season
Practice for the 2014 – 2015 wrestling season officially got underway Friday, November 14 for the West Holmes High
School wrestling Knights.
Head coach Jeff Woods, in his 24th season at the helm, and his staff will definitely have some experienced wrestlers this
season. Leading the way will be junior Cole Woods, the 2014 O.H.S.A.A. Division II 120 lbs. state runner-up, and several
other grapplers who showed promise last season. And, the coaching staff will be working with a talented group of incoming
freshman.
But, this season may be one of the toughest challenges coach Woods will face in his lengthy tenure – low numbers in the
room, the loss of some experienced wrestlers who decided not to wrestle, a log-jam at several weight classes, and not one
senior on the squad.
With only 17 wrestlers on the current roster – 5 juniors, 8 sophomores, and 4 freshman – and the season still two and half
weeks away, coach Woods and his staff will work to bolster the roster. Plus, it’s a short time to get the squad ready for what
will surely be a test this season.

West Holmes High School wrestlers are reminded that the O.H.S.A.A. mandated ‘Hydration and Body Fat Testing/Weight
Certification Day’ is Tuesday, November 25 beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the West Holmes High School wrestling room.
The testing is required to determine the lowest weight a wrestler can compete and the time period to safely lose weight to
reach that lowest weight, based on the readings from the Hydration and Body Fat Test.
Those readings coupled with the wrestler’s current weight at the time of the testing, are ran through a computer program that
determines the lowest weight (certification), and if the wrestler desires to wrestle at the lowest weight allowed, the time
period to safely lose weight.
Wrestlers are reminded to keep themselves hydrated the day of the test. A failed hydration test stops the certification process
and requires a second testing procedure at a later date.

Unable to secure an opponent for a season preview/scrimmage inside ‘The Dungeon’, W.H.H.S. wrestling head coach Jeff
Woods will take his troops to Indian Valley High School in Gnadenhutten, Ohio for a scrimmage.
The 10-team scrimmage will take place Saturday, November 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon.

Young Team In Practice Room
West Holmes Middle School wrestling head coach Andy Toye (8th-season) and his staff opened practice for the 2014 – 2015
season Friday, November 14.
With a squad of mainly 7th-graders, some of whom enjoyed tremendous elementary ‘Attack Team’ careers, it will be a year of
learning for the middle school Knights.
Only 5 eighth-graders are on this years squad of 22, two of whom – Josh Baldridge and Tyler Zupancic - enjoyed successful
7th-grade seasons.
Leading the way for the 7th-grade class are elementary ‘Attack Team’ standouts Cael Woods, Walker Uhl, Tyler Masters,
Kendal Weber, Gavin Harter, Hayden Baker and Kenny Eyster.
Though they may be young, this year’s squad has a lot of potential. Several members of this year’s team have enjoyed
success in other sports, and coach Toye and his staff hope to mold that athletic ability to the mats.

‘Attack Team’ Practices Continue
The West Holmes Middle School wrestling room has been a busy place on Monday and Thursday evenings, and will
continue to be as the practice site for the Holmes Area Wrestling Club – better known as the West Holmes elementary
wrestling ‘Attack Team’.
Over 40 youth wrestlers have been practicing since October 30 in anticipation of their season opening Ohio Youth Wrestling
Association Mid-Ohio Division twin dual meet’s December 14 against Ashland and Smithville at Smithville High School in
Smithville, Ohio.
Since the 1995 – 1996 season, under the tutelage of 19th-year volunteer head coach Randy Sponseller, the ‘Attack Team’
sports a spectacular dual meet mark of 132 – 10 overall.

COLLEGE WRESTLING
Former Knights Time On The Mat
Former West Holmes High School wrestlers Max Rohskopf, Justin Stitzlein, Caleb Cox, Grayson Miller and Zach Mullet
have been seeing time on the mats the past few weeks as they continue their wrestling careers on the collegiate level.
The results have been mixed for the quintet, with Roshkopf and Stitzlein seeing the most action.
Rohskopf (4x state qualifier and 3x state placer for the Knights) began his season Friday, November 7 with a 2 – 0 decision
victory over teammate Lee Davis during the North Carolina State University ‘Wolfpack Wrestle-Offs’ at 165 lbs. Rohskopf
(Soph.) then competed Saturday, November 15 in the ‘Wolfpack Open Tournament’ at N. C. State’s Carmichael Gymnasium
in Raleigh, North Carolina where he finished 4 – 2, including a fall win.
After a two-year break away from wrestling, Stitzlein has seen action after stepping back on the mats this season. The Ohio
University junior competed in the Saturday, November 15 ‘Eastern Michigan University Open Tournament’ in Ypsilanti,
Michigan finishing with an 0 – 2 mark at 149 lbs. Stitzlein, a 3x state qualifier and 6th-place finisher in 2012 for the Knights,
is currently 4 – 4 with 1 fall win for the Bobcats.
The start of their collegiate wrestlers has been a rough one for the former Knights trio of Cox, Miller and Mullet. The three
freshman at Muskingum University competed in the Saturday, November 8 ‘Washington and Jefferson College Open
Tournament’ in Washington, Pennsylvania coming away with two victories total among the three.
Both Miller (285 lbs.) and Mullet (197 lbs.) recorded 1 – 2 marks. Miller’s win came via a fall (1:55) and Mullet scratched
out a 4 – 2 sudden victory decision for his win.
