New Generation Polytunnel Covers
This new generation polythene
film combines all the benefits of
previous films (great thermic and
light transmission properties), but
unlike normal greenhouse films
(and glass) which prevent short
wavelength UV light (UVB) from
reaching your crop, this ‘UV open’
film allows UVB to enter the
greenhouse.
This can have many
benefits for both edible and
ornamental crops, such as
enhancing the fragrance, taste,
colour, earlier harvesting and
longer post-harvest shelf life.
In addition, ‘UV open’ films
promote plant anti-oxidants
which are good for health &
encourage stronger plants are
available
This greatly benefits plant
raisers and young plant growers
as stronger plants can be easier
to plant out thus saving time and

All of our polythene films have
the anti-fog (anti-condensation)
additive.
Providing the film is correctly
fitted, water will condense
uniformly as a very thin layer
which, instead of forming as
droplets which create a fogging
effect, it runs down the sheet.
This reduces the risk of water
dripping on to the plants below
and prevents the loss of light
caused by these droplets, which
can amount for as much as 25%
light reduction.

(3kW) up to 1,000,000Btu (300kW).
Our small LPG and gas

Irrigation Systems
Peter Moore, formerly the irrigation
manager at LBS Horticulture, joins
Northern Polytunnels. Pete has
over 20 years of experience in
commercial horticultural irrigation,
both at the design level and also
in a sales & advisory capacity.
Having spent several years at the
‘sharp’ end, installing irrigation
systems himself, he is well
positioned to offer sound,practical
advice. He joins our other irrigation
experts, Simon Taylor (formerly of
HortiMax) and Nigel Carr.
We’ve greatly expanded our
in-house irrigation department,
to include all aspects of
irrigation: water storage tanks,
pumps, drip irrigation, sprinklers,
control panels, filtration, fertiliser
dosing, pipe & fittings etc.
Our direct-fired cylindrical heaters
are available from 100,000Btu
(30kW) to 400,000Btu (120kW) with
the options of gas, oil or LPG.
Our indirect-fired cabinet heaters
are available up to 1,000,000Btu
(300kW) with oil and gas fuel
options. We can specify the best
option for each individual
polytunnel or glasshouse.
Roll-up Motor

with a max 3.5A (84w) output can
produce up to 60Nm torque.
This makes them the ideal
solution for roll up side ventilation
systems. Either wired to a
low-cost controller & thermostat
or linked to a sophisticated
environmental control system,

Saw-Tooth Structure
Our new Saw-Tooth structure is based around a
standard glasshouse base frame using lattice
trellis beams. This reduces the amount of legs
within the structure and enables the eaves height
to be increased from 2.1m up to 4.5m.
Standard bay width is 8m, but up to 12m
available. Full length roof vents allow over a third
of the roof area to be opened, giving huge
ventilation opportunities. Controlled with either a
low cost temperature controller or a full
environmental control system, to deliver class
leading temperature/environmental control.
The narrower sheet widths are easier to handle
and replace, especially with our new easy sheet
fixing system. A built-in safety system for
working at heights make re-sheeting quick and
safe.
Structural confidence can be assured as our
new Saw-Tooth structure has been designed and
tested to European Standard EN13031-1
Greenhouses, annex E.12:United kingdom, to
withstand nation-wide wind and snow loading
conditions.
