Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe November 23, 2014 From the Pastor’s REGULAR Desk SCHEDULE of MASSES on Sunday “ And he will separate them one from the other, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.” 8am, 10am and 12pm Saturday, November 22 Certainly the image offered in today’s Gospel indicates that it is not everyone who gets into the kingdom...at least not right away! The scripture distinctly describes a segregation of the good and the evil. It is important for us to understand that we become what we’ve done. Our worthiness is dependent on being faithful to the demands of the Gospel and the formation of our lives in accord with the laws of God. Unfortunately in our time, it seems some people have the opinion that you can do what you like and still enter the kingdom. They think there are no consequences to their lack of faith and faith practice. How sadly selfdeceived the scripture says they are. How can what you choose to do in life not affect who you are? How can the evil practices we expose ourselves to, not affect the kind of person we become? Repeatedly ignoring the commandments of God creates an environment of complacency and selfindulgence which makes us insensitive to others and the effects of our actions on them. We can very easily become monsters! We are called to faithfulness. We are asked to be a good example to the young. We are supposed to provide good example for others to follow. We are to use our gifts to better the world. We are supposed to serve as God’s instruments. If we fail in all these regards, then what is it about ourselves that we would think worthy of an appearance before the author of our life? What reward is given to those who never struggle to do God’s will? Remember that the very desire to please God is pleasing to Him. We don’t have to be perfect, but we at least have to try our best. 5pm Henry S. Wiles req. Virginia & Jeffrey Wiles Sunday, November 23 8am req.
