WORK OUT DAY
On behalf of the PTA and College, I extend my sincere thanks to you for last Friday’s Work Out Day. It provided
much needed funds to equip the Technology Block to be opened next year. It also gave staff dedicated quality
time to plan for 2015. It is important to note that the professional development for staff is built around the Work
Out Day.
SCHOOL CAMPS AND ACTIVITY WEEK
As we begin Year 8 Camp and Year 10 Activity Week, I am grateful for the support of parents and acknowledge
the dedication and commitment of teachers.
I am very mindful of the cost of these experiences to parents but a survey conducted of parents three years ago,
fully endorsed their continuation because of the obvious benefits to children.
Staff do their best to keep costs to a minimum without compromising the quality of the experience.

YEAR 7 & 8 CAREER EDUCATION
Year 7 & 8 classes are having their final Career Education session over the next few weeks.
Some Year 8 classes have already had their session; others will have theirs after Year 8 Camp week. Talk
to your child about things they can do to prepare for the move to Year 9 and the start of their ‘secondary’
schooling. Year 7 classes will start their sessions in Week 7. The focus will be on understanding that there
are connections between people’s abilities and interests and job areas they choose.

We had 2 placings for the Hettanz Fashion Awards. Claire Self, Year 10, came Third Place in the
Emerging Creative Section of Evening Wear.
Ruby Carter, Year 9, received a Highly Commended Award for her Casual Dress in the Technical
Category.
SPEECH COMPETITION
Represent your school at the ANZ RSA Cyril Bassett
VC Speech Competition for the change to be one of
eight regional finalists who will travel to Gallipoli to
attend the Anzac Day centenary commemorations
as New Zealand Youth Ambassadors.
The competition is open to Year 12 and13 students
in 2015.
All finalists and their schools will receive cash prizes.

DENTAL HEALTH FOR YEARS 9-13
Your child’s teeth are really important to look after and keep healthy.
Next year, if your child will be Year 9, the Community
Oral Health Service would like to give you the
opportunity for your child to continue their free dental
health care with the Community Oral Health Service
OR a local dentist, who is contracted to offer the free
dental service to adolescents.
All Year 8 children will receive a form to take home
and complete with an attached list of dentist and
dental practices to choose from. Once you and your
child have selected a dentist and returned the completed form, we will inform the
dentist who will then follow on with their free dental care from Year 9 to Year 13.

A one-hour activity. Students of all ages can choose from a variety of self-guided tutorials, from kindergarten up.
Tutorials work on any modern browser, tablet, smartphone, or even with no computer at all. Code.org’s own tutorial
features Angry Birds, Plants vs. Zombies and video lectures from Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates.

REPORT FROM JPC YOUNG VINNIES
USED GREETING CARDS
Young Vinnies still need any used or new Christmas cards,
plus regular greeting cards, decorations, stickers and ribbons etc.
Students are encouraged to join the Young Vinnies in C9 at
lunchtime on Thursday to create cards for prisons, retirement
villages and hospitals.
SVDP FOOD BANK
Young Vinnies are now collecting packets of instant pudding, jellies
and Christmas foods for SVDP to include in Christmas food parcels.
