As your children begin NCEA exams please ensure the following: They get a good night’s sleep
 They have breakfast and lunch
 They check the night before whether it is a morning or afternoon exam
 They have their exam number with them
 They arrive at least 20 minutes before the exam
 They have all the necessary equipment e.g. calculators, plenty of pens etc
 Once the exam is over don’t dwell on it, you can’t change the result, focus on the next one
Above all, please be encouraging and supportive of your children at this stressful time. It will end!

BIG THANK YOU from the PTA
The PTA wish to thank the school community for supporting our fundraising events throughout
the course of this year, and the upcoming Work Choice Day for juniors. The funds raised
during the year are put back into the school community and most importantly, the students.
This year the money was used to purchase school lockers for the students, a water cooler refill
station (to be installed this term), Stage Challenge props and costumes, end of year
prizegivings, Science Fair prizes, new school blazers, a gazebo for the PE Department, a
locator beacon for ABL (Activity Based Learning) and sports equipment, including waterpolo
hats, netballs and badminton racquets.
We also appreciate all the donations of uniforms for our 2 nd Hand Uniform Shop. The
proceeds from the uniforms go directly back to the school and students.
My sincere thanks must go to my team of dedicated parent helpers; your ongoing support is
always much appreciated. ‘Many hands make light work’ and we always welcome new
members to our PTA. Members are not expected to participate in every fundraising event and
if you wish to be on the helpers list, please email me on [email protected]
Thank you,
Andrea Colby
PTA Chairperson

summer camp for high school students who enjoy programming.
In 2015 the camp will be held in Wellington. Details, including how students can register their interest,
are on the attached flyer. Please pass on to any students whom you think may be interested.
The International Olympiad in Informatics will be held in Kazakhstan between 26 July and 2
August http://ioi2015.kz/
The NZOI programming camp helps select the NZ team for this.

JPC CELEBRATES ITS RICH CULTURAL DIVERSITY ON WEDNESDAY 5TH NOVEMBER
John Paul College is blessed with its rich tapestry of nationalities and cultures. Instead of causing of division,
it unites us and gives reason to celebrate. With this in mind, our school is to stage an International Flag
Ceremony during Wednesday’s assembly. This will involve parading 20 national flags which represent the
home countries of our international students and the family heritages of many of our domestic students.
Flags displayed include
those of the Philippines,
Germany, Taiwan, Japan
China, France, Norway,
South Africa, Korea, India,
Sri Lanka, Fiji, Tokelau,
Spain, England, Thailand,
Vietnam, Zimbabwe,
Tonga and Samoa.
During the Flag Ceremony
each country’s
representative will also
share what food tasters
its stall will be offering at
the International Food
Festival, which will take
place at JPC’s main quad
during lunch time on
Wednesday 5th November.
INTERNATIONAL FOOD FESTIVAL
Family and community
involvement is encouraged
so if you would like to join
or contribute towards one
of the group stalls or if
you would like to find
out more information,
please speak to our
International staff:
Mike Dwight,
Jacqui Hesketh or
Necia Marriner.
Otherwise our International
Captains Ryota Sasao or
Phoebe Liu could also help.
Last year our International
Food Festival was a great
success and this year we
hope it will be even bigger
and better. We hope it
will be enjoyed as
wholesome JPC
community celebration –
so everyone is welcome.
Mr M Dwight - International Director
Wednesday 5th November
1.20 pm – 2.00pm
Join us in celebrating the rich diversity of our many
different countries and cultures within our school.
Friends and family welcome!
No need to bring samies for lunch!!
