To assist young people within the Surf Coast Shire to participate in the community in areas including employment, education, personal development and social activities. ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reports to: Team Leader Youth Development Supervises: Volunteers and casual staff Internal Relationships: Council staff External Relationships: Schools, community houses, youth services organisations Refer to Surf Coast Shire Organisation Chart (Attachment A) Key responsibilities Measurable outcomes Facilitate activities and events with young people • Assist with the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the Surf Coast Shire ‘Engage Future U’ Program. • Project reports and evaluation reports are completed in a timely manner for each event/activity. • Facilitate the participation of young people in the development of Council’s ‘Engage Future U’ program and activities. • Deliver a Future U program that reflects young people’s ideas and values to meet the project timelines. • Maintain close links with all relevant agencies and services and work cooperatively with community houses, schools, sporting and recreation clubs, art and cultural groups and community organisations to implement the Engage Future U program activities. • Collaborative partnerships developed with community organisations, groups and services to advance youth participation. • Fortnightly meetings with Team Leader Youth Development and regular attendance at various stakeholder meetings so as to represent Council in a professional manner at all times. • Ensuring that documentation is disseminated to meet timelines for events and activities. • Ensure financial statements are completed accurately within timeframes as set by the funding body. Proactive record keeping including creating records of telephone conversations, verbal decisions, meetings, emails and letters that can be recalled if required. Ensuring the quality and accuracy of the data used or entered on Council databases and systems. Ensure participant information is maintained in accordance with privacy guidelines. • • Attend team meetings, stakeholder meetings and professional development as required. Utilise existing resources and networks including community newsletters, noticeboards, internet and school publications to ensure that information about the’ Engage Future U’ program and activities reaches the target groups. Administration compliance • Development and completion of accurate acquittal and evaluation reports. • Ensure all communication from Council can be recalled when required. • • Maintain electronic records in accordance with protocols • • Maintain participant information and consent forms in line with legislation. • General Responsibilities • Perform other duties and responsibilities reasonably within the capabilities of the position. • Using Council motor vehicle. • Current Drivers licence required to facilitate events and activities across the community. • Risk, hazards and incidents are reported in a timely manner using the correct channels of communication. Ensure that work practices are conducted in line with Council’s WHS and Risk management policies, practices and relevant legislation at all times. Risks arising in the workplace may be financial, safety, site, task or person-specific. • Participate in the consultative processes provided by the organisation. This position is required to report to the Team Leader Youth Development any issues which he/she is unable to resolve to ensure that supervising staff are regularly informed of progress on all matters and projects. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in planning, co-ordination and evaluation of youth/community projects. Ability to understand the long term goals and objectives of Council. Ability to market and promote youth events and activities in collaboration with young people and the Surf Coast Shire Council Communications Team. Management Skills • • • Ability to effectively plan, organise, prioritise and manage own time to achieve targets within a set timetable. Ability to work in collaboration with other members of the project team. Ability to give project support to other staff members as required. Mandatory Qualifications & Experience - Key Selection Criteria • Degree or diploma in Youth Development, Community Development or other relevant qualifications. • Demonstrated experience in planning, coordination and evaluation of youth/community projects. • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the needs and issues of young people. • Ability to communicate with young people to encourage and support their participation in youth related programs • Demonstrated experience in liaising with a wide range of community groups. • Advanced skills in managing time, setting priorities, planning and working autonomously. • Current Working with Children Check. • Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council).
