raspberry flavor at the fore. This particular bottling could improve for a year, but makes a
great food Champagne now." (12/ 2013)
Deep Salmon Pink. The nose has crushed strawberry

hedgerows and smokey characters. The palate is lively,
filled with red fruit flavours and spices, with hints of
liquorice on the finish.
"Fresh tangerine and rose on the fragrant nose and in
the mouth. Plush and expansive, with good weight to its
soft citrus fruit and strawberry flavors. Distinctly red-fruity, with very good finishing
breadth and cling. This shows very good depth without coming off heavy: a very flexible
wine with food." (12/ 2012) Wine Spectator - Drink now through 2015.

The Grapes for the Brut Gold and Rosé
cuvées are taken from three terroirs in the
cradle of Champagne: the Marne
department. These include the Montagne
de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des
Blancs. The Blanc de Blancs cuvée is made
solely of Chardonnay grapes from the
Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs
terroirs. All grapes are from villages rated
Premier or Grand Cru.
Jean-Jacques & Alexandre Cattier have selected grapes from Armand de Brignac’s own
vineyards and from villages in the terroirs mentioned above, including Grand Cru villages
Cramant, Avize, Oger, & Choully, and Premier Cru towns Ludes, Rilly-la-Montagne, Villers
Allerand, Taissy, Villers Marmery, and Mareuil-sur-Ay for each bottling of Armand de
Brignac.
The wine is a top fraction of the first cuvée pressing on our traditional Coquart press, used
to extract the cuvée slowly and with the highest quality of juice. Each cuvee is a blend of
three distinct vintages, allowing for more complexity, richness, and nuance of aromas than
a comparable single-vintage wine.
The Armand de Brignac bottles age in a gated section of the Cattier cellars, considered
among the deepest in Champagne at more than 30 meters underground. This ensures a
low, constant temperature conducive to slow ageing. Remuage (riddling) is done entirely by
hand on traditional wooden racks, over a period of 30-45 days.
After disgorgement, the Champagne is rested for at least an additional 6 months before
bottles can be released.
Each Armand de Brignac cuvée includes a unique liqueur de dosage aged 9 months in oak
casks, previously used for ageing Burgundy Chardonnay.

Pedro Ximenez 'Vintage' 2013
Bright gold colour with old gold reflections, some depth
and legs. Lovely, rich and full, hint oily and sweet - very
over-ripe grapes, some light texture and a traces of Fino
Sherry, apricot jam and perfume, amazingly fresh.
Low acid but retains a certain tang, not over sweet
(somewhere around 50grams/litre?) but certainly sweet,
traces of nut oil, apricot, grapes and yeast from the
batonnage. Quite a luscious texture, like a German
Auslese, but lower acid and made from PX. Lovely, long, unusual, moreish...The grapes
were picked 21 days after normal table wine ripeness and fermented without soleo (sundrying) on their skins. The wine was aged for 4 months on its lees in American oak butts
(PX butts?) undergoing light batonnage (lees stirring), and lightly filtered into bottle.

Ripe, concentrated and
complex fruit aromas. The
rich bouquet contains
abundant aromas of dried
fruit, almond, apricot, fresh
citrus and peach blossom.
In the mouth, the wine is well structured with a viscous,
unctuous density resulting from the high levels of
botrytis. Beautiful acidity confers an excellent lively freshness on the wine. Spicy notes on
the long finish indicating the wine’s excellent aging potential.

Cru Classé
Classé 2009
XS uniquely only make Sherry from PX, and this is a
blend of dry oxidatively aged wine from a solera laid
down in 1964, and resembling an oloroso, with sweet
wine from a solera laid down in 1918 whose wine’s
average age is 25 years. Light amber/old gold through
gold to a trace of green at the rim, legs. Aromatic,
different, charming. A honeyed sweetness with lots of
dried fruit - raisin, obviously, but amazingly fresh,
nothing like the big black sweet PX wines, some quince jelly, trace oxidative notes and
wood, cinnamon, fragrant, quite different to normal (palomino) Sherry, and most attractive.
Medium-dry, decent tangy acidity balances the sweetness, so doesn't cloy, that quinceyraisin flavour predominates with slight notes of gingerbread, broader, fatter in style to the
palomino wines, with perhaps a little more texture, lovely and clean with a very long finish.
Delicious, really friendly.
THE WINE ADVOCATE Robert Parker 96-98.
‘Denis Dubourdieu has provided one of the genuine
stars of the vintage. This has a very fragrant nose with
apple blossom, lime leaf and a touch of honey. Very
fresh and lifted...spring-like. The palate is very well
balanced, not a powerful Sauternes but ethereally
poised and focused, skipping blithely to an animated
pear, honeysuckle and apricot finish. Very pretty, very
complete and very outstanding.’

Lujan de Cuyo - Argentina
Dominio del Plata
Late Harvest Malbec by 'Susana Balbo'
The Malbec vineyards for the late harvest are right
around the winery in Agrelo, Lujan de Cuyo. The vines
are all ungrafted and are and average of 13 years old.
Late harvest-style wines from arid Mendoza are
incredibly rare due to the lack of moisture and botrytis
at harvest time, and RED dessert wines are almost
unheard of. Fortunately, Susana has created a sweet,
ripe Malbec dessert wine that is both incredibly
balanced and totally seductive. Lush and brimming over
with ripe black cherry and plums, together with a touch of violets and spice making this an
outstanding dessert wine. It is sweet, and 100% naturally so, not sticky or syrupy. This is
indeed a virtuoso performance from the leading lady of the Argentine wine scene.

Rustenberg
Straw Wine
This wine is so named because it is made in the
'passito' method, where the harvested grapes are laid
out on straw mats and allowed to dry for around 4
weeks, concentrating the sugars. They are then
pressed for 4-5 hours and racked to barrel for
fermentation. Concentrated aromas of honey,
marmalade and ripe peach. Intensely sweet yet
vibrantly fruity and involvingly complex. A voluptuously
textured palate with plenty of length.
DECANTER 5 Star Rating 2013 & Gold Medal: "Wow! Peaches and cream, milk chocolate
and white flowers. The wine is fantastic balanced with complimenting fruit, acidity and
developing botrytis characters. Very fine indeed."

The 2008 LBV has very
lively, complex aromas with
a mature, black plum, spicy,
herbal finish. It has good
concentration without being
too full bodied and fresh tannins giving the port length
and depth. Thanks to the year and good acidities, two
opposing flavours of maturity and concentration are well
integrated with freshness and equilibrium. The LBV is similar in style to other La Rosa
ports – well defined, a good structure, and mature tannins with soft wood undertones. La
Rosa ports are always slightly drier than most, and the brandy is always well integrated.

Trentham Estate
Zinfandel ‘Lodi’
Merlot
California
Murray River, SA
This is a lovely approachable Zinfandel with great
blackberry fruit. Medium bodied and very well
balanced. A very easy drinking wine with ripe tannins
and a luscious finish. “The nose has a racy character,
the mainly black fruits bilberry and black cherry spiced
up by herbal black pepper. The mid palate is rich the
black fruits backed by dark chocolate and then towards
the back the fresher more herbal spice gives an
appealing twist to the tail." 91 pts Derek Smedley MW Grapes: A great all-rounder with
great fruit and finish.
This family owned boutique winery is set right on the banks of the Murray River at
Trentham Cliffs just outside Mildura.
This is a soft and approachable, medium bodied red
wine. It has subtle berry fruit aromas which are followed
by sweet strawberry and cherry on the palate. This is
followed by a long and elegant finish laced with hints of
French oak. Because of the soft, fleshy nature of
Merlot, it partners food exceptionally well. Pasta,
roasted meats or Mediterranean vegetables compliment
the variety.

Santa Lucia, California
Eden Valley, SA
Displaying the classic qualities of the Santa Lucia Highlands, this silky Pinot Noir has pretty
floral and citrus aromas. Warm Asian spices
accompany bright, lasting flavours of citrus, rose petal
and cherry.
As James Halliday states in his 2011 Australian Wine Companion, "It may be a dauntingly
competitive marketplace, but there can be few more
promising new ventures than this one".
Deep red with hints of violet on the edges. Intriguing
rose petal aromas with summer pudding of lifted red
fruits, berries and a little lime marmalade from the cofermentation with the aromatic Eden Valley Riesling.
Wild cherries, blueberries and mulberries combine to
form an impressive structure balanced by spicy oak on
the palate. Opulent and intriguing finish derived from

Romania was ranked as the 13th largest wine producing country in the world.Romania is
home to many local grape varieties such as Feteasca, Zghihara de Husi, Cramposia de

This well-run estate at Cussac in the Haut-Médoc has
deservedly been a favourite of Dunell's for several
decades. One of the reasons that it provides such good
value for the quality is that it is quite large at around 114
hectares which brings significant economies of scale. Soils are well-drained, deep and
gravelly. Since 2004, the vineyards have been managed sustainably, on the

reduction in the use of chemicals and allowed for complete traceabilty.

Indeed one could almost, (almost) argue that this, their

just more concentration, more definition and more
class, particularly evident in a vintage like this.

Ventoux
Famille Perrin
Ventoux lies between the Rhône and Provence and
takes its name from the imposing mountain which
forms the background to its ancient vineyards. As the
name implies it is a windy region, and the area's red
wines have "a kind of mountain coolness and
freshness" according to wine writer Andrew Jefford.
The long growing season in 2013 has given the wines
even greater freshness this year. This juicy red is from
the Perrin family, whose flagship property is the famous Château de Beaucastel. Marc
Perrin's unusual technique of flash heating the grapes before fermentation releases colour
and aroma from the skins, resulting in a deep and vibrant wine with extraordinary aromas
and richness of fruit. Perfect with lamb kebabs or char-grilled vegetables.

Amazingly long length.
Brunello collectors are on very familiar terms with the

place as one of Brunello's original creators. However,
Talenti talent can be found in its humbler Rosso di
Montalcino too. This Rosso di Montalcino acts like a

resulting wine possesses an enchanting balance between ripe red fruit, spunky acidity, nice
minerality, spicy Montalcino terroir, and velvety tannins. This Rosso is especially

fruit, notes of leather and tobacco, and herbal undertones; moreover, it’s one serious value

This wine is named after a former charismatic ownerwinemaker, Reg Merriman Nicholson, who lived and
worked on the farm for 30 years and was the creator of
Rustenberg’s famous “Dry Red” wine. Creative
blending after 9 months, followed by a further 7 months’
oak maturation, ensured complete integration of wood
with fruit aromas and flavours. Black currant aromas
are complemented by scents of dried herbs and notes
of black pepper and spice, followed by a palate with serious structure from the Bordeaux
varieties and finishing off with softness from the Shiraz.

ADVOCATE #209 (Oct 2013)
Neal Martin - 93 points - Drink: - 2024 "The 2011 John
X Merriman was blended from 17 lots that were vinified
separately and sees 20 months in new French oak. It is
much more closed than the 2010 despite rigorous coaxing. The palate is well-balanced with
fine tannin and a little more tension than the previous vintage, gradually building in the
mouth toward an intense, white pepper, savory finish. I would give this five or six years in
bottle because it may ultimately out-perform the 2010."

Darling Cellars
Pinotage ‘Chocoholic’
Darling
This modern day South African take on the
'Appassimento' wine styles of Veneto has a natural
concentration and velvet character that is quite unique.
The wine is made using partially dried grapes in an
age-old practice best known in Valpolicella and which is
responsible for Amarone, Recioto and Ripasso styles of
wines. Chocoholic is composed of two distinctly
differing Pinotage components. 20% of the cuvée,
representing the most concentrated, richly flavoured
juice, is created by twisting the grape stalks to induce a raisening of the fruit whilst it
remains on the vine. Chocoholic Pinotage is a supremely versatile, complex wine, making it
the perfect accompaniment to a wide range of savoury dishes. The wine comes into its
own, however, when paired with chocolate and desserts. There is no chocolate in this wine
but boy does it taste divine with high cocoa content chocolate (at least 65%). We all adore
this wine. It is one of those wines that you will taste and will instantly love it. We did!

fruit. Well-structured to the palate, with silky, rich
tannins, ending with some acidity so this wine will keep

spicy hints. Excellent with main dishes and chocolate
Rioja ‘Reserva’
This is a wine with the know-how and flavour of a great
Rioja Alta wine. Made from 90% Riojan Tempranillo,
10% Mazuelo and Graciano. For the winemaking of
reservas at Ramón Bilbao, they think about wines that
are going to be laid some years, therefore only the right
blendings are appropriate to age for a long period in oak
cask and gain longevity in this way, and the evolution in
the bottle will be slow and fulfilling. Although they are in
line with the classic line for being made with Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graciano and aged
in American oak, its extra fruitness due to the intense maceration, places it among the
more modern wines in the D.O. Ageing in barrel: 18 months.
Intense garnet red with light brick-red tones on the rim. On the nose it unfolds from the first
moment balsamic notes from the wood with a chocolate and coconut background, all of it

estate fruit is used. The cool climate at Iona ensures slow maturation. Winemaker John
Seccombe takes full advantage of this unique terroir to produce transparent, focused wines
of place. The long boat emblem on the labels is homage to owner Andrew Gunn's Viking
heritage.
Palacio de Fefiñ
Fefiñanes
Albariño
Rias Baixas, Galicia
This is a classic Albariño which is good young, but actually improves over two to three
years and remains quite drinkable for up to five years. Owner Juan Gil comments that the
wine really starts to come into its own in June/July, and he actually prefers it 18 or more
months after it's made. A Fefiñanes "vertical" of three
or four vintages can provide some most interesting
surprises.
Very fresh and classy. Aromatic white flowers, green
fruit and pineapple. Lemon curd, zesty charm, rich
supple palate, balanced by gentle grip and fine mineral
notes with a salty hint. Long, fresh finish.
Sauvignon Blanc
Fragrance of pure white grapefruit, intense tropical fruit,
ripe gooseberry and fleshy kiwi fruit over-lay Iona's
distinctive herbal and floral undertones. The palate is
keenly balanced showing cut green apples and lime
marmalade followed by great minerality and length.
Very stylish and polished. This is fantastic if drunk with
fresh asparagus and seafood dishes but is also
enjoyable by itself.

Mandarin Napoleon
Asbach
'Grande Cuvée'
France
3 Year Old Original
Mandarine Napoléon is an exquisite, well-balanced blend of mandarins and refined 10year-old aged cognac. Dating back to the early 1800s, and its roots stemming from the
hands of Napoléon Bonaparte, the liqueur’s history is as rich as its distinctive flavor.
Only the freshest mandarin peels from Sicily are used and these have a fine peel with very
little pith, resulting in plenty of zest. Following the maceration in Alcohol Mandarine
Napoleon is triple distilled to produce an intense essence of mandarin. Its complexity
derives from its secret combination of mandarin and twenty one botanicals.

is ready only when our tasters say it is. We use our senses, just like Jack Daniel himself
did. In fact, more than a century later, our Tennessee Whiskey is still judged the same way.

12 Year Old Malt
1797 Founders Reserve
In common with other Lowland (and Irish) whiskies,
Auchentoshan malt whisky is distilled three times (as
opposed to most Scottish malt whisky, which is distilled
twice). This triple-distillation has the effect of softening
the flavour and body of the end product. The 12 year

appearance. It has a Crème Brulee smell with a burst of
citrus and the signature nuttiness and green leafiness of

GREEN'S
HARVIESTOUN
...the original glutengluten-free beers from Belgium…
Belgium…
. ..crafted with a twist in Clackmannanshire...
Green's are dedicated producers of gluten free beers, craft brewed in Belgium, and that
means Quality without Compromise.
There is a growing population around the World who live with Coeliac (Celiac) disease or
are just sensitive to the gluten contained in barley and wheat, but still want to enjoy quality
beers!
They have beers ranging from crisp and light lagers or rich dark ales to wonderful hoppy
beers, making Green's one of the biggest original producers of gluten & wheat free beers.
Harviestoun Brewery was founded in 1984 by Ken Brooker, an employee of Ford Motor
Company for over 20 years, and Eric Harris on a farm just outside Dollar in the midst of
beautiful Dollar Glen in Central Scotland. Ken and Eric pieced together a brewing setup
and installed it in a 200 year old building on the farm. Former Vaux brewer Stewart Cail
later joined the team and is still the head brewer.
About 5 years after brewing started, a new 10-barrel brew plant was installed that was
acquired from Devanha Brewery in Aberdeenshire after it ceased brewing operations. After
Harviestoun was informed that their landlord was doing surveying work for turning the
property - officially named Dollarfield Barns - into houses, a new location for the brewery
was sought. The new location at Alva, about five miles from the original brewery, houses a
totally new purpose-built 50-barrel plant.

How B&T Got Its Name
It was first brewed in 1997 shortly after which (and unrelated to the new brew) a wee fracas
broke out in the brewhouse. Feathers flew. There was some colourful language. One or
more wives may have been involved. Nobody can remember exactly who was called "bitter
& twisted", by whom, or even why! But it was one heck of a name-day for this great beer!

INNIS & GUNN
LION BREWERY
...the story... discovered by accident...
Sri Lanka.
Lanka.
…it's
…it's in 1860 that the story begins....
'Our beer’s distinctive depth of flavour owes a debt to good fortune. In 2002 a famous
whisky distiller approached us for help. They were seeking to season some of their oak
casks with the sweet, malty character of a full-flavoured beer. All the previous attempts had
failed.
Eager to assist, we created a custom-made recipe and the resulting brew was put to bed in
their barrels.
Thirty days on, our beer was thrown out and the whisky went in. During its maturation, the
Scotch acquired extra qualities from the beer-infused wood, resulting in a greatly admired
dram and many repeats of the successful experiment.
Then, months later and quite unexpectedly, our Master Brewer, Dougal, received an
exciting call – this time it wasn’t the whisky getting rave reviews.
Some inquisitive souls at the distillery had sampled our beer after its time in casks. We did
likewise…and the taste was remarkable. It had been transformed by the oak into an
unusually refined brew.
Ever since that heady day we’ve dedicated ourselves to sharing the unique flavours of our
oak aged beers with the world, proving that a little luck can go a long way.'
British Planter Sir Samuel Baker decided to establish a home brewery in the cool climes of
Nuwara Eliya, although it was in 1881 that the facet of commercial brewing is evidenced,
managed by Messrs Bremer and Pa Bavary. Ownership changed in 1884 to Murrey
Brewery Company Rawalpindi, who later sold out to Ceylon Brewery, helmed by the
pragmatic J B Hampson and later G W Lindsay White, who founded The Ceylon Brewery
Limited in 1911.
Promoted widely under the brand logo of a stag head seven decades later, Ceylon
Brewery became a subsidiary of diversified Sri Lankan conglomerate Carson
Cumberbatch.
It was in the 1940s, that the company expanded its product portfolio, introducing Lion
Lager, Pale Ale, Sinha Pilsner and Stout and twenty years later, to mark the Jubilee Annual
General Meeting, the award winning Jubilee Ale was launched into the market. Having
been honoured with a gold medal at the Monde Selection and gaining second place at the
Brewers and Allied Exhibition in London,
With continuous improvement and innovation being the hallmark of the company, by 1992,
the company was licensed to brew and market Carlsberg in Sri Lanka, while acquiring 8%
stake in the Company, with Guinness following suit a few years later in 1995.
Favourable taxation and duty regimes in the mid 1990s spurred capacity expansion with
the construction of Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC, in a spacious locale in Biyagama, just
under one hour's distance from the commercial capital of Colombo. Ceylon Brewery has a
15% shareholding in Lion Brewery.
However, with the new brewery performing beyond expectation, in anticipation of further
fillip being added to an already successful journey, The Ceylon Brewery Production facility
was closed and all operations moved to the Lion Brewery location. Lion Brewery, The
Ceylon Brewery and holding company Carson Cumberbatch are quoted on the Colombo
Stock Exchange.
INNIS & GUNN 'Rum Finish' Oak Aged Beer
CASE x 12 Bottles (330ml) 6.8%alc
'Our Rum Finish is a fighter. Its popularity saw it throw off the shackles of Limited Edition
status to clinch a place in our Core Range. Matured over oak heartwood infused with
specially selected rums, its spicy, full-bodied qualities make it a lively sparring partner for a
round or two.'

'This is our firstborn brew, whose accidental discovery started our story in 2003. Its
originality also lies in its singular taste – notes of biscuity malt and vanilla swirling within a
creamy, mellow character.
A pioneering beer, its flavour finds favour with brewing juries, blind tasting panels and
barflies alike.'
Lion lager is a flavoured, golden beer that satisfies the thirst of a pride of natural leaders,
with an unmistakable touch of Ohlsson’s Cape Breweries style, brewed in South Africa to
the original recipe, since 1891. This mainstream beer brand is 5% alcohol by volume and
expertly brewed using the finest variety of barley, and the highest quality of maize, malts
and hops. It is a palatable beer, a beer of substance achieved through exclusive brewing
process, which ensures a consistent, quality beer.

'India Pale Ale first made its name in the 19th century. Here's hoping our pioneering IPA
can make its mark too.
Its fervent hoppy character hails from the unique addition of large quantities of hops at
three separate points during brewing. The result is a beer that's rounded yet refreshing,
with delicate floral notes and oodles of zesty freshness.'

INNIS & GUNN Craft Brewed Lager
CASE x 12 Bottles (330ml) 4.6%alc
'Our Lager takes its inspiration from the German style of lager, Helles. Helles was first
produced in Munich in the late 1800s as an alternative to the typical ‘dunkelbier’ (‘dark
coloured beer’) produced in the area (‘Helles’ means ‘light-coloured’ in German).
Ours, like the first Helles beer that was brewed back in 1894, has a sweet, malty flavour
balanced with a light aromatic hoppiness that makes it very refreshing.
We use Naked Golden Oats to make our Lager. Naked Golden Oats are grown without
husks so that even more sweetness and flavour can be extracted during brewing.
