They are a full service family health care provider that not only address all the basic health care needs of patients, but with Komen funding, provides clinical breast exams, screening and diagnostic treatment for low-income, under- or uninsured women of San Antonio’s east and west side. In April of 2012, Lorraine M., a single mother of two, was diagnosed with breast cancer and is a patient of CommuniCare….“At the time of my diagnosis, I did not have any health coverage and did not know where to go. The nurse at CommuniCare gave me information about the Susan G. Komen program. If it wasn’t for the program, I wouldn’t have known what to do. I was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer and now I am nearing remission. I am so blessed. The Komen-funded program has saved my life.” SLEW Wellness Center, another local non-profit that received Komen funding, provides emotional and physical support for underinsured and low-income women who are recovering from and/or undergoing breast cancer surgery, chemotherapy or radiation treatment throughout Bexar County. University Health System (UHS) is one of the eight organizations that received large grant funding from the Susan G. Komen San Antonio Affiliate. UHS, in partnership with Metropolitan Health District, assists low-income, uninsured, atrisk women with clinical breast exams, screening mammography and advanced diagnostic procedures in downtown, southwest, southeast and northside clinics in San Antonio. Grace C., who was diagnosed with breast cancer, received assistance from University Health System…“Being a single person with no insurance, University Health System Women’s Breast Health Program has helped me financially pay for my mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy. Funding from Susan G. Komen has helped me get the care I need. I am so thankful for University Health System and Susan G. Komen San Antonio.” For a complete listing of all the Komen San Antonio Grantees, visit www.komensanantonio.org Breast Cancer Survivor Evelyn H. shares her experience as a SLEW patient…“I am currently seeing improvements due to the massage therapy and personal counseling that SLEW Wellness Center provides. Thanks to SLEW and Susan G. Komen, I have hope and now see that there is a way to live the quality of life that we all deserve.” 7 SPONSORSHIP CHECKLIST WAYS TO SPONSOR From cash and in-kind sponsorships to targeted marketing opportunities underwriting specific elements of the event, the Komen San Antonio Race for the Cure offers several options at various levels to match a companyʼs goals and budget.
