Distinguished Faculty:
Susan K. Boolbol, M.D.
Susan K. Boolbol, M.D. is the Chief of Appel-Venet Comprehensive Breast Service,
Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City. She attended medical school at The George
Washington University in Washington, DC, completed her general surgery residency at
The New York Presbyterian Hospital, Cornell and a fellowship at Memorial Sloan
Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
As Director of the fellowship program at Beth Israel, she conducts clinical research
and has presented at both national and international conferences. She has authored
numerous journal articles and book chapters and has a practice dedicated to breast
surgical oncology.
Mark A. Gittleman, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Is the Medical Director of Breast Care Specialists and Advanced Breast Care Imaging in
Allentown, PA, and maintains a busy private practice. He is a past President of the ASBS,
and serves on the ASBS Coding and Reimbursement and Breast Imaging Technology
committees and is a reviewer for Ultrasound and Stereotactic certification applicants.
Dr. Gittleman is frequently an invited speaker on image-guided breast surgery and other
breast cancer related topics. He is a faculty member of the ACS Post-Graduate courses
related to breast imaging and minimally-invasive biopsy techniques.
Rakesh R. Patel, M.D.
Is the Director of the Targeted Radiation Institute at VMOC with centers in Pleasanton
and Los Gatos, CA. He completed his residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
and joined the UW Radiation Oncology faculty and led the Breast Cancer clinical and
research program until moving to the Silicon Valley, California in 2008. Dr. Patel has
a special interest in 3D-HDR brachytherapy. He has published over 100 manuscripts
and meeting abstracts and has given presentations around the world. He served as
the 2010-11 President of the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS) and leads several
patient and physician training initiatives.
Pat Whitworth, M.D.
Dr. Pat Whitworth is a breast surgical oncologist and Director of the Nashville Breast
Center. He has served as Vice Chair of the Breast Committee for the American College of
Surgeons Oncology Group, Chair of the Board of Directors for the American Society of
Breast Surgeons (ASBS, 2005-2008) and Chair of the Research Committee for the ASBS.
