Suave Speculations

Suave Day. Just what is it? On the day of
the Social, all the CITs (and some Interns)
dress all suave-like. So what are this
year’s CITs planning?
Jazmin – I really don’t know.
Margot – I don’t know, but I’m going to
go to a thrift store before it.
Daniel – I’m going big. Jacket and tie.
Marie-Gizelle – I’m just gonna wear a
dress.
Nora – I’m gonna dress for the theme.
Erica – Dress, but no heels. Y’know,
because of the 6 & 7s.
Aidan – Gonna look suave, and blow
minds. Kind of a 70’s throwback.
Juliet – Going to look very suave.

CREATIVE ARTS (&
ATHLETICS) MAN
By Matt Margini, 24.2
Suave isn’t a style; it’s a state of mind. But
some of us, quite frankly, are smoothnesschallenged. I know I was, before I started waking up to Coltrane on vinyl. Picture this: You
walk into the cafeteria. The lights are dim. At a
table in the corner, you see none other than Beyonce, Natalie Portman, and Suzanne. They’re
bored; you’re the entertainment. Where do you
begin?
1. When you start your day, look in the mirror and say “Coconut” in the deepest voice possible. Really drag out those syllables.
2. Consider everything an accessory. Water
bottle? Make it Fiji. Fanny pack? Make it Gucci. Creative Arts nametag? Patent leather by
John Varvatos.
3. If someone asks you what you do, never
ever say “graduate student.”
4. If you meet two or more men, refer to them
as “gentlemen.” Two or more women: “ladies.”
Mixed company: “Fellas.” No exceptions.
5. Don’t wear the cologne to Morning Meeting. Wear it to first period.
The Deal on the Social
By Juliet Godwin, 13.4 and Diana Reiss, 10.7
The Social is coming up, so we thought we
would ask some CITs, Interns, and campers
what it’s all about.
What are the details of the Social?
Jawan (CIT) - I know that Aidan, Sean and
Daniel are going to be living it up. The O’
Keefes party hard, so it’s going to be awesome.
Aiden - I don’t know if I’m allowed to say.
Black and White is the theme, it’s $5.00; if
you’re 11 and up or going into 6th grade you can
go; there’s going to be pizza, snacks, drinks,
dancing, maybe balloons. It’s going to be a
great time. We’re going to dance the night
away.
Is the theme going to be based on the
poll?
Jawan - Yeah, Black and White is the theme
because of the poll. The theme is going to be
cool because you guys chose it.
So, do people have to dress up in black
and white?
Jawan - No, I think the black and white is for
the decorations, but you can if you want to.
What are you most looking forward to
at the Social?
Lucia - I’m looking forward to meeting new
people.
Khalid - That pizza is usually really good, and
I’m looking forward to just chilling and having
a good time. Last year I was new, so I didn’t
really know what the Social was, but now I do
and I’m looking forward to it.
Matt - I heard that going to the Social is way
way way better than watching Burn Notice.
Are You Going To The Social?
Poll by Isabel Genn, 12.8
The legendary Social, CAA’s big event for
older campers (hosted by the CITs!), is just
around the corner. (I can’t believe it!) But are
the majority of campers going this year? Or
are they going to stay home and watch Burn
Notice? Reader, I got the scoop!
Erin (11 years old): Yes
Lauren (12 years old): Yes
Theo (11 years old): I’m not sure yet.
Timothy (10 years old): No.
Abby (13 years old): Duh!
Jason (14 years old): Yes.
Wyatt (15 years old): Yes.
Isabel (12 years old): Maybe.
Juliet (13 years old): I don’t think so.
Diana (10 years old): Yes.
Matt (24 years old): I’m gonna watch Burn
Notice :-(
A Severe Case of
Writer’s Block
By Theodore Servedio, 11.0
Have you ever had writers’ block? I know
I have. Writer’s block can stop people
from writing whatever they would usually
feel compelled to write. If a person has
writers’ block, the person will probably
spend hours staring at a blank page and
thinking about what to write. Whenever
the person gets an idea, they will immediately disregard it and consider it ‘bad’.
They might think that people will think of
the idea as ‘dumb’ or that others will laugh
at it. I decided to interview a few campers
on what they think about writers’ block.
I decided to interview Timothy
Schachner, a camper at CAA.
Q: Have you ever had writers’ block?
A: Umm… Yea. A few times.
Q: What do you think of it?
A: It’s really annoying.
Q: Do you have any solution for writers’
block?
A: Well, yeah, thinking until I come up
with something to write (which is probably the worst way to solve writers’ block).
Q: Are you having a severe case of writer’s block right now?
A: Sort of… kinda no, not really...ya know
what? Yeah. Nah, no. To clarify: I am not
having a severe case of writers’ block…. At
the moment.
Other ways to get rid of writers’ block
are to look around you and maybe write
something about your surroundings or
ask other people what they are writing and
get inspiration from them!
Pulse is Back!
By Timothy Schachner, 10.8
The first of two 2013 issues of Pulse will be
coming out soon. Pulse is a literary magazine
that contains writing (stories, poems, etc.)
from all of the campers who participate in the
Creative Writing class. On Wednesday, July 9,
Matt said that the first issue of Pulse in 2013
will most likely be out by Monday. Several kids
have writing that they would like to have in the
pages of Pulse. All of the writing is very entertaining, and some of it might even be too long.
So most likely by Monday, the magazine Pulse
will be back with its entertaining content and
will be better than ever!

What Do Campers
Do After Camp?
By Abby Liman, 13.4
By Sara Beck Goldstein, 10.0
Most of you are probably not aware that Bruno Mars is my husband. Marie-Gizelle is not
only unaware, but she also thinks she can steal
my husband. So I did a little poll. Who thinks
I should be married to Bruno and who thinks
Marie should be married to Bruno? I asked 16
campers; here are the results.
After a fun and tiring day at camp, it’s hard to
imagine that anyone would be able to do anything but fall asleep once they get home! But
we all know that CAA campers are not any ordinary campers – they’re adventurous and daring, curious and bold!
So what do campers do after camp?
Allegra: I usually read.
Nashely: I just lay down...
Janelle: I do homework.
Me (Myself): I play video games when I get
home.
Mitchell: I usually relax, watch TV.
Matt (Staff): I run home to tend to my lovely
fish.

The results are fairly shocking. Obviously I
knew I’d win. But not just by one vote. Thanks
to Sloan Steinlauf, who I may or may not have
offered some of my lunch snack.
