All the songs with guest vocalists and his own vocals are lacking. I just threw the gospel songs on my walking tape and I'm happy. Emenim - The Emenim Show : Easily one of the best hip hop albums and MC's out there. It's refreshing to hear someone talking about things that actually mean something instead of bragging about crap they really don't own. This was fun to listen to all the way thru. Emenim is better than his beats. He raps on beats most rappers would pass up on. I hope it's not really how he describes it in his songs as far as not being recognized for his skills cuz he's the best out there right now, period. DJ Shadow - The Private Press : This one didn't really hit me until the second listening. Quality work from a guy who doesn't release to much shit. Instrumental Hip Hop on an intelligent & exploratative tip. It's like Moby without the all note: A really really good movie is one I go and see 2 or 3 more times while it's in the theater. A pretty good movie is one I see once, enjoy the shit out of it, and look forward to the DVD. To find out more about any of these movies go here and do a search on the title. Lord of the Rings (dvd) - Nice movie. Consider this dvd release to be a teaser to the real DVD release coming in November. I call it milking the public but isn't that what Hollywood does? Anyfarts it's a great flick and a great way to blow 3 hours. I still have to say I've seen better fight sequences on Zena - Warrior Princess! Showtime - Well, it passed the time. Not much to really crack up on here. Seems like they thought this would be a good idea untile they actually shot it. If it doesn't take much for you to laught then file:///C|/Documents and Settings/Sreaming Lord Byro...SITE WORK/Dreamsites/WyndellLong_com/Wcom_checka.htm (1 of 7)11/5/2005 6:03:05 AM WyndellLong.com - Checka : Movie n Music talk ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● the "easy money" black music samples and droll vocals. Inspired. Mandalay - Solace : This has been out for awhile. A really nice CD. I really love their choice of synth sounds, stuff nobody else uses (Like Everything But the Girl later productions). Nicola Hitchcock vocal style is very original, and the music has a very intimate feel. I wish they would have included "Please" (which was played on an episode of La Femme Nikita, which got me into the band), but I can't really complain. It's a 2 CD set for the price of one. Very nice! Chemical Brothers - Come With Us : I highly respect these guys work, even if I can't immediately get into it. It's just so well produced! They have really gone the pop route since "dig your own hole", which is understandable. It's a better CD than "Surrender". Star Guitar is banging in a dreamy way. Quality music by an act that always put's alot of time into it's music. Daft Punk - Discover : Just like the Chemicals, Daft Punk has gone the Pop route, but they do it in such a cool way. This CD sounds like a bedroom studio project, only thing is the tracks are catchy as hell. The Todd Edwards cut up track is my favorite. Good buy. Michael Jackson - Invincible : Not bad. You know if he would spend normal amounts of money, left the "King of Pop" crap in the closet, and concentrating on making good songs instead of music events, he would be so much better off. When I read how much it cost to make this record I had to giggle and snort. I know he's Michael Jackson and everything but What a Idiot. It doesn't cost that much to make a record unless your still trying to reach the days of Thriller. Why he's still chasing it is beyond me. Madonna is cool, she does what she wants, she's not trying to spread herself to thin, and her music is more interesting now than when she was a phenom. I hope Michael hooks up with a producer who will bring him down to earth (Rapheal Sadiq or D' Angelo maybe?). Invincible sounds great because a ton of money was spent on it. You won't remember any of the tunes 15 minutes after you've heard them (After I heard Usher's "You remind Me" I had trouble deleting from the memory banks!). For my fellow musicians though ALL Michael Jackson CD's are must buys simply because the quality of the recordings are refernce. Lucy Pearl : You know what cracks me up. This neo soul category they made up recently for black bands that actually play instruments all the way thru the song. Isn't that the way music was suppose to be? Lord knows when producers run out of ideas they go running to the pre 90's music catalog for sampling. This is a great CD. Light, tight and breezy. Pick it up. Nice to hear a bass player moving the strings. Looking forward to "Vintage CLassic" Bilal : Very nice. Nicely produced to. Has the hot Dre sound where the drums smack you in the face like 2 peices of wood. Nas - Stillmatic : I've never been that big a fan of Nas (don't ask why, maybe I was on some bad cheeba) but this is a great CD. True lyricist who doesn't have to resort to short lived gimmicks (growly voice, bling bling). Ether is a trip! DJ Doc Martin - Open Your Mind Mix CD: THis one's from 1996, but it's still one of my all time you'll enjoy this one. Clockstoppers - A lot better than many critics gave it. Kid finds a watch that can slow down time around him. PLays tricks on a few people, then spends the rest of the film running from the people who want it back. WHat more did the critics want from a nickelodeon film I wonder? Some swell FX in this one directed by Star Trek The Next Generation's Number #1. Contract Killer - ANother Jet Li movie. This one is about a amatuer hit man (who posseses great skill without a gun) who it trying to score a huge contract based on finding the killer of a yakuza boss. Takes a minute to get to the action but when it does all hell breaks loose. One of the better Jet Li action n guns movies out of Hong Kong I've seen. We were Soilders - ANother combat driven film about the insanity of war. This one is about oe of the early Vietnam conflicts. Mel Gibson does a good job as a leader trying to remain objective in the mist of chaos and overwhelming odds against. Great picture and excellent sound. CHeck it out. The effects of Napalm it shows are pretty CSI insteresting. The Sweetest Thing - "Chick flick" with a Farrelly brothers vibe. Gross-out humor which seems to be thrown in for the hell of it. Christina Applegate shines the most in this one, I've always considered her to be talented way beyond her looks (and she looks good!). I won't even explain the plot since there hardly is one. Still, all said an enojyable rental. If you buy it you were warned. Blade 2 - Ahhh...the daywalker. Much respect for the first blade which was directed by Steve Norrington. The talented Guillermo Del Toro directs this sequel and does a great job keeping it "for the fans". None of that PG-13 sequel crap that you usually get with a successful R-Rated movie. This is violent, gruesome, and cool as hell. IT even has Donnie Yen (Iron Monkey), who choreographs some of the fight scenes, and who is a legend on his own. No bullshit here. High Crimes - THis is Morgan Freeman & Ashely Judd collecting paychecks for the summer home in venice. Predictable and should have been a straight to USA network release. Pay no more than $2 to rent it. It's worth that. The story get's stupid as soon as she finds out her husband is not who he seems when he get's arrested for war crimes and has been living under a false identity. Any normal woman, especially a power lawyer as she plays, would have been da hell out! Instead she fights to clear his name, whoever he is...... Panic Room - To be honest the 2nd time around wasn't as good as the first. The neat "thru the wall" camera work was though. All in all a good flick. No surprises, but it keeps up at a steady pace. Fincher's best with material with some shock value. One thing that puzzled me was the choice for Jodie Fosters son/daughter. You'll see what I mean. file:///C|/Documents and Settings/Sreaming Lord Byro...SITE WORK/Dreamsites/WyndellLong_com/Wcom_checka.htm (2 of 7)11/5/2005 6:03:05 AM WyndellLong.com - Checka : Movie n Music talk ● mix cd's ever (next to Laurent Garnier's Xmix 2 CD). If youcan find it scoop it up. Great mix of house and techno on the moody tip. And man what an intro - Dj Sneak into Terry Lee Brown's "Terry's House". Classic. Pink - Missundaztood : Impressive album from someone who could have easily been another addition to the teen pop junk heap. "Just like a Pill" is my favorite (sticks to the brain). The styles varies a great deal on this CD and she sounds natural singing on them instead of it sounding forced. CHeck it out. read more top 2002 movies minority report storytelling Blade 2 Bourne Identity Spiderman Brotherhood of the wolf Kissing Jessica Stein Star Trek Nemisis / We were soilders Have not seen yet but hopeful equilibrium Kissing Jessica Stein - This was nice. Two first time lesbian's (well technically bi-sexual) go at it in an effort to find something new. One thing this movie points out about same sex relationships, it ain't like the porno's. Those chicks are getting paid to giggle and squirm. In real life there are issues man. Feelings, compatability, communication, passion, all the things in same sex relationships. Plus in reality the rest of the world has caught up so see, it's really an issue with the couple, not society. Well done. If I were a woman, I'd be gay!! I'm not ashamed to say it. I'd also pay top $dollar$ to experience a woman's orgasm. Heyell yeah! Bamboozled - I haven't rent a Spike "message" movie in a long time. This was a good flick, minus the ending. Television isn't to far away from some of the things he's suggesting. Basically a lone black TV exec comes up with a show he hope will get him fired. He brings blackface back and instead of getting axed he's in charge of the #1 show in the country. Then all hell breaks loose. ALl in all Spike's best since DO the Right Thing & Summer of Sam. What's even cooler is that it was filmed with hand held digital cameras. Check it out. Brotherhood of the Wolf - If you wait and hour and a half you'll get some of the best action sequences of the year. THe fight sceses are brutal and punishing . Very cool. The Story is nice as well. THe Brotherhood of the wolf is not what you might think it is. The fights were choregraphed by Philip Kwok , who is responsible for some of John Woo's best Hong Kong work, as well as some great 70's kung fu flicks. Check it out, but be warned it takes it's time to get to the punishing. about schmit punch drunk love could have been better die another day LOTRings two towers (looked great, but it was lacking something) red dragon (the director of Rush Hour 1 & 2 doing this one?) minority report (i know, it's one of the favorites to, but with Speilberg you can be extra critical) panic room (but what else could they have done huh?) Scorpion King - Basically it's a video game on screen. An ok video game. You'll forget what you saw as soon as its over. It should have went hard core with all the stabbing and cutting that went on without a drop of blood shown. Death to Smoochy - This was ok. They advertised it as a dark comedy and all it turned out to be was Robin Williams using dirty words with a loud voice. Not enough to carry a movie. I was cracking up a couple times though so it's worth a rental. The story is to silly to recap. Windtalkers (what happen Woo?) Momento - One of the best films of the 2000's. All I can say is having no short term memory sucks ass. THis story is told from the end to the beginning in a way. Follows the book , except "as in all hollywood movies based on books", the ending is test audiance approved. Hopkins is great as Lecter as usual, but he doesn't really have anything to do but look creepy. Ralph Finnes is the standout in the movie since this time you actually get more into his "becoming"as Francis Dolerhyde. Ed Norton is just slumming as Wil Graham, in restraint mode. You can't really compare this to the movie Manhunter (which is based off the same book "Red Dragon") as far as quality since anyone could have directed this movie the way it stands. file:///C|/Documents and Settings/Sreaming Lord Byro...SITE WORK/Dreamsites/WyndellLong_com/Wcom_checka.htm (3 of 7)11/5/2005 6:03:05 AM WyndellLong.com - Checka : Movie n Music talk norah jones - come away with me beck - sea change eminem - eminem show ludacris - word of mouf (funny shit) nas - stillmatic big tymers - hood rich (funny dum shit) sonic youth - murray street the streets - original pirate material the white stripes - white blood cells moby - 18 (a photocopy of play, but a little sadder) j-live - all the above chemical brothers - come with us elvis #1's rolling stones - 40 licks Woth a viewing, but don't expect a whole lot and you'll enjoy it. Leave the old brain at home and enjoy. Shit blows up good, 55,000 rounds of ammo go off, and the action hero is indestructable. Not Woo like in gun fights, or Jet Li in Kung Fu action, but cool in it's own way. It is getting harder and harder for Hollywood to come up with real life situations where multiple 9 minute Kung-Fu scenes are plausable in a movie, but for those who dig it, you gotta support little gems like this. Things blow up big, but don't expect the style and pacing of the Connery bonds. Spiderman - Great movie. The only faults are some of the "dumming down" aspects of the comic book details, and of course the "with great budget comes great romance" thingy. Still, when it has to get violent and destructive it does big time. Buy it! Lord of the Rings: two towers - All in all a good movie. Not the spectacle I thought it was going to be. The CGI gollum character was the best thing about the movie. THe battle sequences sucked, only because the actual combat could not match the scope they had set up (close ups with the camera shaking). No matter what you think of it you still respect the directors vision. Star Trek Nemesis - Took me awhile to see this one. Actually went with a free pass that was in my LOTRings DVD to Two Towers. I was pleasantly surprised. Critics ripped this flick a new one. If you dig Star Trek and can forgive them for that shitty Insurrection, then check this on out before it's out of the theater. It did terrible business, but to be honest I enjoyed this one more than I did the Two Towers. True the story was lacking in some places and was based on concepts they covered on TV before, but all in all it was fun to see ships going at it again with a purpose. And man were they going at it. The first next generation film where Picard was calling shots on the bridge during battle. This will make a nice DVD when it's released, and all in all if you leave out insurrection, the NG movies are a nice little collection to have. Great way to end the series. I don't think many people really give a shit about Star Trek anymore. To bad. Austin Powers : Goldmember - Never should have been made Period. And I really dug the first 2 BAYBEE! Minority Report - Based on the number of times I've watched it I have to say a nice piece of filmaking, although I had big problems with it when I saw it in the Theater. The look was nice too. Distinctive. Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever - I can swallow the dumbest of action movies, but this is to dumb. Actually more un-inspired than dumb. The Actors seem to be asleep, so therefore that's what you end up doing. To bad, Lucy Liu and Antonio Banderas were wasted Back to the Future 1,2,& 3 - These movies will always have a special place for me. I still feel part 1 is one of the tightest & smartest storys ever filmed for mass consumption. Watching them in widescreen with clear ass DVD picture and 5.1 dolby digital sound is like seeing them for the first time. Must rent, must buy. Sum of all fears - NIce flick, although very watered down (probably becuz of the 9/11). Ben Affeleck is decent, but Morgan Freeman has to stop taking these support roles that end quickly. How is he ever going to be in the sequels. You'll see what I mean. He's the best part of this movie. Based of a Tom Clancy Novel and of course get's the Hollywood "dumb it down" treatment". Still, it's a nice flick. Rental for sure. Men in Black 2 - You can almost feel them writing this as they went along while you watched this "movie sequel". Just like Goldmember it should not have been made. Think of the thingssome of these schools out there could have done with the budget of this poop. Mr Deeds - No better or no worse than any other Adam Sandler movie, which means you know what your getting into when you rent it. Dum, funny, and charming. Winona is perky while John Turturro seems to be having a lot of fun playing the vanishing butler. Reign of Fire - Movie would have been a lot better if they would have actually had some dragon in the muafukka ha ha!! REally, more dragons would have made this a pretty good movie. Instead it's good in parts but never delivers the real goods. Like a M. Night Shamalyan movie. Seeing the director is famous for directing a ton of X-File episodes you see why! Bad Company - Watchable, but barely. This is another one that should not have been made and instead donated the budget to a few needy schools. The story is to dum in impossible to recap. It would have been better if Hannnibal popped up or something. Who Framed Roger Rabbit - Classic. I still find this film to be truly amazing. Check out the feature cartoons included on the DVD as well. Mullhulland Drive - Weird shit. Every time I rent a David Lynch movie I always say it's the last time. It will be till his next flick comes out. If only he could tell a story that actually meant something cuz lord knows he has the eye!Enjoy this movie (like all Lynch films) for the journey thru the subconscious that it is. Spend 3 days with horny degenrates and try to have fun. I dug it, but it one of those 'no reason at all' movies. Gotta love some of the backwards effects used to tell the story, and the guy describing his vacation was real kool. Standing in the shadows of Motown - Very nice. I read a Keyboard magazine article on the Funk Brothers like 9 years ago and this movie was like reading it again. Very nice. These guys shouldn't have gone out the way they did, but it's nice to see them get the credit they fully deserve. It's so nice to see people playing instruments together again. I love technology but nothing will ever be better than a band. All music headz must see this film. The DVD is filled with a ton of nice extras too. Message to Joan Osbourne: You have a wonderful voice, don't waste it on turd songs anymore baby! Beatles Anthology DVD - About as close to musical heaven as one can come to. A truly remarkable band telling their story from day 1 (well it seemed like it). The Beatles are one of the scat few bands to where I can say ANY hype or press they get they fully deserve it. Must see / must buy. One can only hope they do one of these on Prince and Parliament/Funkadelic! Two Weeks Notice - Uhmm....well.....It played, therefore it exists. Honestly these kind of movies direct themselves. Hugh Grant as his normal charming self, and Sandra Bolluck as usual underplays her looks for 90 minutes of preprogrammed, easy on the brain romance. Secretary, and other romance movies which take chances and give you real, flawed, characters, makes this kind of fluff look like Nickelodeon. If you like light dum romance movies you'll love 2 weeks notice. I guess that's the best way to sum it up. Harry Potter & chamber of Secrets - I dug it. No dull moments in this one, and it basically follows the book. THe whole premise of Potter is ok, I trip on how he mostly watches everyone else do neat things, while his solutions for things are more practical and don't really involve magic.
