Östlig förbindelse in brief In order to increase accessibility, promote housing construction and lead traffic away from the centre of Stockholm, the Swedish transport administration is planning for a traffic tunnel which will include both road traffic and public transport – Östlig förbindelse. The traffic tunnel will bring one more passage over the Mälar-Saltsjö water barrier. By building it, we will connect Norra länken with Södra Länken and complete the ring-road around Stockholm. In its national plan 2014–2025 for developing the transport system, the Government has allocated SEK 2 billion for work on the preparatory investigation and design. The project is part of the National Negotiation on Housing and Infrastructure which is to try to find the remaining funding for implementing the project. In order for construction to be started, full funding is required as well as several approved plans, for example road plan and a special decision on beginning construction from the Government.
