November is National Adoption Month
Adoption is a beautiful option. One of Planned Parenthood’s long-time slogans,
“Every child a wanted child,” is misleading. They are trying to say it’s acceptable to
abort a child if he or she is not “wanted” (or planned) by his/her parents. That actually
describes the parents, not the
baby.
Every child is a “wanted” child.
That alone shows the great value

Forty Days for Life
November 3 marks the 40th day of this year’s campaign.
Watch next month’s newsletter for the Fall of 2013 statistics - already the numbers of children saved during the 40 Days is
several hundred.
Let’s celebrate 40 Days of Life-saving success! If you have
participated in any way - - prayed in front of Planned Parenthood (our local abortion center); prayed anywhere; or fasted
for the cause of Life, you are invited. Please come to our
closing rally on Sunday, November 3 at 7:00 PM at Park Farm
Winery in Bankston. We have a wonderful program prepared for you as well as delicious pizza and great wine. It is good to recognize, and celebrate, our successes.
PLEASE COME!
Extra special thanks to our keynote speakers, Rev. Kristian Kincaid, Pastor, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, and Steve Karlan, 40 Days for Life North American Outreach
Director, for delivering strong messages at our previous rallies. Both were powerful and
inspiring!
Thanks also to our prayer leaders, musicians and everyone involved in our meaningful
rallies. Thanks most of all for our 40 Days for Life Leadership Team: Co-Directors,
Kate Mantyh and Charlie Vaske; Vigil Coordinator, Trina Hingtgen; Prayer Leaders and
Outreach Coordinators, Srs. Dolores Moes and Donna Determan, PBVM; Event Coordinator, Suzanne Lansing; and to all of you who participated. God has blessed all your
efforts.
LIFE IS . . . .
At DCRTL we believe that life is precious! We believe that babies are a great source of joy
and that raising children is an incredibly rewarding experience full of irreplaceable moments.
Our new Life Is . . . campaign is about capturing these moments and sharing them with the
community. Children come full of darling memories that let you know what life is all about.
From spaghetti-covered faces to tubby-time games, these are the moments you wouldn’t trade
for the world. And these are the moments that are meant to be shared.
Let the world see what life means to you by sending in an adorable photo of your child for use
in local ads and billboards. Simply e-mail your photo to [email protected] with a
short description of the special moment. Or drop off a photo at our office. We’ll be sure to let
you know if your photo is selected. Get involved! Share your little bundle of joy with the
world and help spread the message that life is precious.
Our new billboards are up! Look all over Dubuque for our Life Is . . . ads as well as new
bumper stickers. Many thanks to all of you who have already submitted photos!

Shocking Facts
Planned Parenthood of the Heartland has 22 locations in Iowa.
¡ 14 Locations do abortions
¡ 5 Locations give referrals for abortions
¡ 1 Location is a business office
Surgical and Medical Abortions (RU-486)
are performed at the following locations:
Bettendorf
Des Moines (Rosenfield Center)
Iowa City
Sioux City
Medical Abortions only are performed at
the following locations:
Ames
Burlington
Cedar Falls
Cedar Rapids
Council Bluffs
Creston
Des Moines (Susan Knapp PP and My
Health Express)
Dubuque
Red Oak
Urbandale
“Abortion Referral”
Ankeny
Fort Dodge
Keokuk
Mount Pleasant
Washington
PP alone kills the
equivalent of one (1)
kindergarten class
every two days in
Iowa. This is tragic!
Good News!
Six PP Offices have been closed since
2012 (Spencer, Fort Madison, Knoxville,
Newton and Storm Lake and one referral
site in Des Moines.
PP of the Heartland pressures Title
19, low-income women to donate for
services.
Here in Iowa also charges for pregnancy tests and other services that can
be obtained at other clinics for free.
*******************
Did you know…..
Nationwide PP is responsible for an
abortion every 94 seconds. That means:
919 abortions daily
38 every hour
1-2 every time you are at a red light
And this is only PP - these numbers do
not include privately owned abortion
clinics. The overall average is 1 abortion every 24 seconds! Nearly 3 babies
every minute or 150 babies every single
hour!
Abortion profits of Planned Parenthood - We often hear PP officials in Iowa say,
“Abortion is only 2% of our business.” That 2% is worth up to an estimated 2.6 million
dollars in Iowa!! Here is a look at the numbers:
•
$300-$950 for a surgical abortion (PP calls this an “In-clinic” abortion)
•
$300-$800 for an abortion pill (PP calls this a “Medical” abortion).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PP is making a killing - in more ways than one! The price difference between these
two types of abortion are minimal, but PP makes a much bigger profit from the abortion
pill, because there are less overhead expenses. The doctor is on a webcam and not meeting with the woman in person. There is no clean up or sterilization to be done by the
staff. The woman has to deal with the blood and body of the baby when she aborts in
her own home - alone.
They are NOT without fraud. Here in Iowa, PP still faces a $28 million dollar Medicaid fraud lawsuit by a former PP manager. Among the allegations: PP purchased birth
control packets for $2.98, then billed Medicaid $35 for the very same packets.
Why Aren’t Women Being Told?
Abortion is the Most Preventable Cause of Breast Cancer
• Extensive studies since 1957 document a connection between abortion and breast
cancer
• Eight medical organizations recognize the link between abortion and breast cancer.
• Patrick Carroll (Pension and Population Research institute) in his study of eight
European countries found that abortion is the “best predictor” of future breast
cancer rates.
• National Cancer Institute branch chief Louse Brinton, Ph.D., M.P.H. co-authored a
study reporting a statistically significant 40% increased risk for women with induced abortions.
Birth Control Pill and Breast Cancer
• The World Health Organization lists combined oral contraceptives in the highest
level of cancer-causing agents (Group 1). “Most combined contraceptives are
taken orally, but they can also be delivered by injection, transdermal patch or ring.”
• A Mayo Clinic meta-analysis found the use of oral contraceptives before a first full
term pregnancy increases the risk of pre-menopausal breast cancer by 44%.
• Two studies in prominent medical journals have strongly linked use of oral contraceptives with the aggressive, deadly, triple-negative breast cancer, which most often affects young women under age 50 and African Americans.
Ending Webcam Abortions
November 6 is the Day of New Life!
(Hopefully) A committee that provides
legislative oversight on state agency rule
making has allowed a new rule to move
forward that will end the use of a videoconferencing system used by Planned Parenthood to distribute abortion-inducing
pills.
Some who serve on the Administrative
Rules Review Committee proposed delaying the rule, but the majority defeated the
motion. This allows the Iowa Board of
Medicine rule approved in late August to
go into effect November 6, 2013.
Currently PP clinics in Iowa (including
Dubuque) are dispensing dangerous
chemical abortions (commonly referred to
as RU-486) to women without direct physician supervision. Instead, PP has the
women “consult” with a physician through
a teleconference interview. Based upon an
initial examination by someone other than
the doctor (oft-times not even a nurse, and
sometimes not even a medical professional
at all) and that brief conversation on line,
the woman is given the drugs. This is not
only dangerous for women, it is contrary
to the safety guidelines put in place by the
FDA.
Please continue to pray November 6 brings
Planned Parenthood is suing to stop the safety to women and children.
rule in court.
Why Are You Pro-life?
“Why are you pro-life?” You don’t have to
answer out loud, but answer in your heart.
‘Why are you pro-life?” Everyone’s answers
are unique and the same. They are different
from and the same as, yours and mine.
We are pro-life because we love God. Because
we understand that all love and all life comes
from God and that it is only His to give us and
take back home to Him.
We are pro-life because we love babies…
Babies big or small, older and younger, regardless of developmental level, regardless of color
or creed, regardless of the circumstances of
their conception.
We are pro-life because we love women…
Women we know are harmed by abortion…
Women who suffer the physical, emotional,
psychological and spiritual consequences of
abortion.
We are pro-life because we love families…
Families whose fabric is weakened by an abortion decision…Families who are blessed when
a child is saved and offered for adoption, or
raised within the loving support of family.
We are pro-life because we love the community and country we live in. Because we love
the elderly, the infirm, the disabled, and the
terminally ill, whose lives are in danger because of the culture of death created by the
legalization of abortion.
Every year in America more than 1.3 million
babies are killed by abortion. That’s over 3,500
a day, almost 3 per minute, one every 20 seconds. That is what I have been demonstrating
as I’ve spoken…One baby’s life destroyed
every 20 seconds. Keep in mind, that also
means that the lives of many others are injured
as well…the mother, the father, the family, the
friends and ultimately, all of us. All of us,
whether we’re pro-life or not, are wounded by
abortion.
But we know
that our voices
and our efforts
continue
to
make a difference.
One
thing we can
do to demonstrate that we
are pro-life is to attend the March for Life in
Washington, DC in January.
March for Life , Washington D.C. ~ January 20 - 24
The 41st anniversary of the infamous Roe v Wade decision that decriminalized abortion
will be observed in our nation’s capitol with the annual National March for Life.
DCRTL, since 1994, has led pilgrimages to this event. Our message to the Iowa Congressional Delegation – and all of America – is that we must return protection to the pre
-born children. The violence of abortion must stop. This is a priority.
Would you like to be a part of this year’s pilgrimage? 8th grade and high school buses
are filled to capacity, but there is still room on the “adult” bus. For details call our office.
Times and prices vary slightly depending on your group (“Our Lady of Life”, “Mazz
Kids”, or “DCRTL Adults”.) “Adult” Bus times:
We will continue our pilgrimage to Washington in the years to come. We’ll stand up
and speak out until the hearts, minds and laws of America reflect protection for the children. We’ll continue our travels and our efforts until that victorious day when we travel
to Washington for a Celebration of Life!
like to just feel
Last year, many of
our area students What If Your Voice Was Silenced? ‘dead’. Having no
speakable (sic) complanning to attend
the March for Life, participated in the Si- munication whatsoever to anybody. This
lent Day of Solidarity and then wrote an was one of the most difficult things I’ve
essay about their experiences. Here are ever done.”
some of their observations:
- Megan Rambousek
“The day of silence is even to this day,
“Never being able to speak, talk or comcurrent on my mind, it was far more im- municate whatsoever. For me, considering
pactful on me than I would have believed. I I am a “talker” was extremely hard! We
had no way to communicate my opinion.” were challenged to not talk for all the un- Katherin Schroeder
“In today’s world, everybody is communicating in countless ways. We all want our
ideas and opinions heard, but we never
take into account what it would be like to
be deprived of our voices or even worse to
not have one in the first place. It gave me
an opportunity to be engaged in a conversation but knew that I couldn’t.
- Matthew Kramer
“I so badly wanted to voice my opinion,
just let it all out, show them what I stand
for, and fight for what I believed in. This
was because the major arguments that kept
coming about were ones about who should
become president (based on pro-life vs pro
-choice), and when people thought that
being silent for the day was stupid. But all
I could do was stand there. On some occasions someone would have to defend me or
tell others what I was doing. I was grateful
for their voice, for it was the closest thing I
had to a voice of my own. I realized how
horrible it is to not have a voice. To have
no say. I was walked all over with barely
any help. ”
-Tony Ward
“While I had the urge to talk, I thought to
myself, ‘is this what it’s really like to feel
trapped inside? To just feel like you’re
nothing right now.’ I actually felt what it’s
born children. It was nearly impossible!
Although, as I went throughout the school
day not trying to say a word, I began to
actually take in the message of all of this.
Babies have an unheard voice.”
- Allie Foy
“Another thing I found out on this day was
that when you’re speechless you’re not
noticed or appreciated like people who can
talk and yell. When you can’t talk people
think you’re not as important to life as a
person who can talk. Another thing that I
thought of throughout the day was that
people with no voice in this day fall behind
everyone else, in today’s world we are the
loudest culture in the world.”
- Aaron Costello
“I vowed not to speak. I have to say honestly it was a struggle for me. I realized
that to be silent and not to be heard is a
hard thing. Those babies don’t have a say
in what happens in life, and we do! I think
that we should stand up for those children
who don’t get a chance at life because of a
mistake that you can’t take back. People
have to realize that this breathing human
being that PP calls a thing of tissue is real,
sweet and a masterpiece of God’s creation.
And having a privilege to be silent and go
to Washington, DC and march to help end
abortion is going to be the greatest thing of
my whole entire life.” - Kirstin Apel
