ABOUT THE MOTOR ACCIDENTS COMPENSATION SCHEME
The Northern Territory Motor Accidents Compensation (MAC) scheme is administered by the Territory Insurance Of¿ce (TIO) and provides compensation
on a no-fault basis to any person injured or killed in a motor vehicle accident occurring in the NT. Compensation is provided regardless of where the injured
person normally resides, and regardless of where the vehicle was registered. For motor vehicle accidents occurring outside the Northern Territory, but within
Australia, MAC indemni¿es the negligent driver of the NT registered vehicle against claims brought against them by an injured plaintiff.
Please note that reductions or exclusions from bene¿ts will apply to the claimant in certain circumstances including the following:
‡
not wearing a seatbelt or helmet
‡
