Cisco announced in May 2016, a refresh of the Cisco Certified Network Associate for Routing and Switching Certification programme.
As enterprises adopt programmable network architectures, the knowledge and skills required of a network engineer will expand significantly. The CCNA
Routing and Switching certification has been restructured to meet these advancements in technologies and has been distributed across each of the training
courses and exams. This release of the curriculum will empower IT professionals with the understanding of software defined networking (SDN) and the
integration of virtualised resources deployed in Enterprise network architectures.
The ICND1, ICND2 and CCNABC courses have all been updated.
Q: What updates have been made to the CCNA Routing and Switching certification curriculum?
A: Key additions to this latest revision include:
•
Understanding Quality of Service (QoS) elements and their applicability
•
How virtualised and cloud services will interact and impact enterprise networks
•
Overview of network programmability with the related controller types and tools that are available to support software defined network architectures
•
Understanding the interactions and network functions of firewalls, wireless controllers and access points
•
Additional focus on IPv6 and basic network security
Q: With a CCNA Routing and Switching certification, what job roles am I prepared for?
A: The certification prepares you for the following roles:

Network Administrators

Network Support Engineers
•
Network Engineer Associate

Network Specialist

Q: What are the prerequisites for the CCNA Routing and Switching certification?
A: There are no prerequisites. However, it’s recommended that you have 1–3 years of networking experience.
Q: What are the requirements to obtain a CCNA Routing and Switching certification?
A: A candidate is required to pass the following exams to obtain the certification:

100-105 (ICND1) and 200-105 (ICND2) or 200-125 (CCNAX) Composite Exam
Q: Are the CCNA Routing and Switching exams changing?
A: Yes. The exams are changing to reflect the refresh of the CCNA curriculum. The current exams will go end-of-life in August and September 2016.

Exam 100-101 ICND1 v2 is being replaced by 100-105 ICND1 v3
•
Exam 100-105 ICND1 v2 will go end-of-life 20th August 2016
•
Exam 200-101 ICND2 v2 is being replaced by 200-105 ICND v3
•
Exam 200-101 ICND2 v2 will go end-of-life 24th September 2016
•
Exam 200-120 CCNA v2 is being replaced by 200-125 CCNA v3
•
Exam 200-120 CCNA v2 will go end-of-life 20th August 2016

If you have already passed ICND1 v2 then you can take either the ICND1v2 exam or the ICND1v3 exam to achieve your CCNA Routing and Switching Certification.
Q: Should I take the latest exam 100-105 ICND1?
A: If you have not yet started your preparation for ICND1, we would recommend that you begin with the latest version ICND1 v3.0, as the new course is more
relevant for today’s Routing and Switching engineers and take the latest exam. If you have already taken the ICND1 course but not yet taken the exam then you
should take the old exam before 20th August 2016.
Q: Should I take the latest exam 200-105 ICND2?
A: There are differences between the old and new ICND2 courses. If you have attended the old ICND2 course you should take the old 200-101 ICND2 exam,
this will go end-of-life 24th September 2016. The new exam should only be taken if you have attended the new ICND2 v3.0 course or if you have undertaken
additional studying to cover the new content.
Q: How can I achieve CCENT certification?
A: If have already attended ICND1 but not taken the exam you should take the old 100-101 exam. If you have not yet started your study, you should take the
new ICND1 course and take the relevant 100-105 ICND1 certification exam.
Q: I am new to CCNA Routing and Switching. Which exams should I take – current or newly available?
A: If you are just starting out on your path to CCNA Routing and Switching, then the recommendation is that you should take the new courses and exams.
Q: I have passed 100-101 ICND1 exam and have a valid CCENT. What are my career options to achieve an associate-level
certification?
A: If you are a CCENT qualified, then you need to pass just one of the following certifications:
•
Pass 200-101 ICND2 v2 or 200-105 ICND2 v3 and achieve CCNA Routing and Switching or
•
Pass 210-260 IINS and achieve CCNA Security or
•
Pass 200-355 WIFUND and achieve CCNA Wireless or
•
Pass 200-310 DESGN and achieve CCDA or
•
Pass 200-601 IMINS2 and achieve CCNA Industrial
Q: What are the recertification requirements for CCNA Routing and Switching?
A: The CCNA Routing and Switching certification is valid for three years at such time, you will need to recertify. Full details of your recertification options can be
found on the relevant web page .
Q: What are the differences between the current exam 100-101 ICND1 and the latest exam 100-105 ICND1?
A: A number of topics such as OSPF have been moved to ICND2, dual stack and Cisco Express Forwarding have been removed. New topics such as RIPv2, LLDP,
SLAAC and Anycast have been added.
Q: What are the differences between the current exam 200-101 ICND2 and the latest exam 200-105 ICND2?
A: Frame Relay and serial WAN are no longer covered, VRRP and GLBP have been removed. An understanding of cloud and SDN technologies have been added
as well as an expansion of VPN content.
Q: What are the differences between the current exam 200-120 CCNA and the newer exam 200-125 CCNA?
A: Older topics have been removed and several new topics have been added to CCNA exam.
