Roberta Mae Brown, 77, of
Roanoke, was called home on
Wednesday, July 2, 2014. She
was born on August 12, 1936,
in Roanoke. Roberta attended
Roanoke City Public Schools
during her childhood.
In 1952, she married James
J. Brown Sr. Roberta was
employed
by
Roanoke
Memorial Hospital and was
best known for her role as
caretaker of family and
friends. She was preceded in
death by her husband, James
J. Brown Sr.; son, James J.
Brown Jr.; parents, Al Sr. and
Elizabeth Meeks and brother,
Al Meeks Jr.
Roberta is survived by six
children, Debra A. Brown,
Sharon E. Brown, Lena R.
Brown, Robert A. Brown,
Barbara A. Brown and Pamela
D. Brown; 13 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; brother,
George E. (Carolyn) Meeks Sr.;
sister-in-law, Mary Maxine
Meeks; and a devoted family
friend, Darrell L. Williams. The
family would also like to thank
Good Samaritan Hospice for
their care and support.
Funeral services will be
held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5,
2014, in the Hamlar-Curtis
Chapel. The family will receive
friends one hour prior to the
service. Interment will be in
Williams
Memorial
Park.

Myrna Joy Poff
Myrna Joy Poff Richardson, 67, of Roanoke, passed away
early Thursday morning, at the V A Medical Center in Salem.
She was born in Pearisburg, on June 6, 1947, a daughter of the
late Willa J. and William O. Poff. In addition to her parents, she
was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Jean Poff and sisterin-law, Betty B. Poff. Joy was a loving and caring sister and
aunt.
Left to cherish her memory are brothers, Robert "Bob" Poff
and wife Irene, Lawrence W. Poff; nieces and nephews, Marty
and Jami Poff and their children, John and Jay; Donna A.
Spangler, husband Jerry and their child, Cameron; Douglas Poff,
wife Beth and their children, Alex and Carson; Lisa Poff and her
children, Henry and Ellie; special friends, Shirley Blevins, Sharon
and Bob Layman, and Mark and Carolyn Hicks.
Joy joined the United States Army in 1981 and served her
country abroad. She loved to travel and traveled to France,
Germany, Australia, Jamaica and Italy. She enjoyed the beach,
especially Myrtle Beach. She was a member of the Church of
the Holy Spirit here in Roanoke and was a longtime member of
Pearisburg United Methodist Church. Joy retired from I.T.T.
A special thank you to the staff members in the Hospice Unit
at the V A Medical Center who provided such loving and
compassionate care during Joy’s illness.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to
the Hospice Unit at the V A Medical Center 1970 Roanoke
Boulevard Salem, Virginia 24153.
Funeral Services will be conducted 12:30 p.m. Monday, July
7, 2014 in the mausoleum chapel at Blue Ridge Memorial
Gardens by Joy’s friend and minister, the Rev. Mark Hicks. The
family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Simpson
Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road, 540-366-0707.

E. Joe Clouser, died suddenly
on July 2, 2014 in a Richmond
hospital. She was a member of
First Baptist Church. Mrs.
Clouser was born and reared
in West Virginia and resided in
Roanoke, for 40 years where
she taught Sunday School at
Windsor Hills Baptist Church
for many years, was a
member of First Baptist
Church, Hidden Valley Country
Club, Sigma Tau Delta Sorority
and Lake Spring Garden Club.
She was a retired legal
secretary from the law firm of
Dodson, Pence, Viar, Young
and Woodrum.
She leaves surviving her a
daughter, Carolyn Clouser and
her husband, Charles Sheehy,
of Richmond; a son, Dr. J.
Kenton Clouser and his wife,
Susan, and their son, Brent
Sykes, of Talbott, Tennessee
and Stuart, Florida.
A memorial service will be
held
at
Cedarfield
on
Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 1
p.m. Burial at Hollywood
Cemetery will be private.

July 3, 2014 at Lewis Gale
Medical Center. He was born
April 17, 1931 a son of the late
Edward Frank and Nannie
Hartman Nunley. In addition to
his parents, he is preceded in
death by his father and
mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
J.A. Fleshman; two brothers-inlaw, Everett Simmons and
Dave Meacham.
Surviving him are his wife
of 62 years, Barbara F. Nunley;
a son and daughter-in-law,
Dave Nunley (Sharon); sisters
and brothers-in-law, Mary
Jane Simmons, Sadie Weddle
(Jim), Virginia
Meacham,
Emily Minnix (Don) and Molly
Simmons (Larry); a very
special person in Chucks life,
Shanna Windham and John
Thomas Windham and their
family; numerous nieces;
nephews; and many, many
friends that he treasured.

doctors at Lewis Gale Medical
Center for all the care and
