This brochure contains addresses and pictures of the 12 hostels that are open during the
season of 2017. Furthermore, it presents two alternative accommodation options; namely private huts. The hostels are overnight accommodations for hikers, pilgrims, cyclists and horse
riders and they are situated along the Hærvejen between the German border and the town

A practical guide for June, July and August 2017
Practical information regarding the hostels:
1. The hostels are open in June, July and August for hikers, pilgrims, cyclists and horse
riders. However, the hostels may be open outside the summer season, please contact the
hosts.
1. Overnight stays cost 100 DKK per person. Cash only. Half price for children between 7
and 12 with their family. Children younger than 7 years stay for free.
2. Booking is not possible. Guests choose their beds upon arrival.
3. Hostels are open from 5 p.m. until 10 a.m. the following day.
4. The hostels offer fully equipped kitchens as well as washbasins, toilets and showers.
Guests sleep in bunk beds using their own sleeping bags, sheets and towels.
5. A field for horses can be found at each hostel, but you have to bring your own feed etc.
Price: 100 kr. per horse.
6. Dogs are not allowed at the hostels.
7. At several hostels it is possible to buy provisions to a limited extent.
Architect Andreas Blinkenberg and Pilgrim Pastor Elisabeth Lidell got the idea of establishing
the hostels along the Hærvejen when walking on the old pilgrims’ route ‘El Camino’ in Spain.
The project of establishing the hostels is supported by Fonden Realdania, Friluftsrådet, counties and municipalities along the Hærvejen, as well as through EU-article 33 subsidies.
The association of Hostels along the Hærvejen consists of representatives from
Dansk Vandrelaug, Dansk Cyklistforbund, Dansk Islandshesteforening and Foreningen af
Danske Santiagopilgrimme.
